wrx intercooler on rx leone good or not
Myxalplyx replied to gravilboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Gravilboy, Perhaps the link provided below will help you with your decision making. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15554&highlight=EA82T+Inlet+Temp+Test+Data -
Man, I hate saying what I'm going to say because I love the XT6 but..... Go for the RX! If you are going for speed, the routes you can take to get there is already laid out in front of you with the RX turbo. Are you talking about rallying speed, road racing, drag racing, combos or something else? The fact that the XT6 is an auto SUCKS! I love my XT6s even though they both are autos but both of my trannies failed. It's the speed part that kills me. You have pros and cons all over the place. My XT6 will give my RX turbo a serious beatdown speed wise but I still have not turned up the boost. You want to turn up the boost? What year RX you getting? Older models are much easier to do this on then the Maf sensor based boost later modelled RX turbo. Then you better do something about fueling or your #1 and #3 piston will play Mike Tyson with your cylinder head. Fast RX turbo = More Fuel, boost, better clutch, intercooler, exhaust Fast XT6 = More power can be had though with custom intake, exhaust and advanced ignition. The RX turbo guys have been running mid - high 14 second 1/4 mile times with 15-18psi of boost. I have not been able to get my auto XT6 under 16.3 seconds in the 1/4 mile. On another note, I have much more fun driving the auto XT6 than the manual trannied RX turbo. Both are modded. It's just that the RX turbo's boost have not been turned up...yet. **Holding hands on head** Go for the RX for speed and follow these guys footsteps. Someone is going to find the solution for the XT6. I have an idea that has been passed around the XT6ers for a while. Doesn't mean crap until it comes to be. Gary, I'll share this with you soon. L8Rs

Will anyone here be going to the 'Street Wars' event at Englishtown Raceway tomorrow? I will be in the street stock class in an XT6. Just wondering if any of the older scoobies will be up there.

Maf Bypass Mod for Fuel Cut
Myxalplyx replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I didn't take into consideration that our cars are boosted. The bypass wouldn't work because boost pressure would blow out of the bypass tube. Hrrmm, I'll think further on this. -
At SVX Network Site: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29386&page=1 Thoughts, comments? Perhaps a valve can be installed in the line to regulate how much air gets bypassed. I would only recommend this if you had an EGT gauge, dyno tuning time and/or a wideband. Of course you'd need a way to add more fuel to keep things in check.

Dyno directory has files in it!

Thanks for posting this up WJM. -
Nah, I screwed up.

Here is the Field Hyper SFC fuel controller turned on vs it being turned off testing on the dyno. Turned on caused the XT6 to go lean on all geards from 1st to gear the higher the rpm went in that gear. With the SFC turned off, I was testing the affect of fuel pressure being raised/lowered so that is why the two identical lines are red and blue. One setting had a higher fuel pressure than another setting. Fuel was controlled much better with fuel pressure than the SFC.

Now this is making sense to me. I'm thinking the XT6 has the 1-12V (or 1-10V) setup as well. I installed an SAFC on my XT6 a while back and reported to the XT6 folks. The car went WAY lean on the top end. This not only happened with my Apexi SAFC but also with my Simple Field Hyper SFC as well. I'll post a dyno plot with Field Hyper fuel controller turned on and turned off in a moment. The Apexi SAFC unit was printed out and not in a .drf dyno file format so I do not have that to show the results. I was tuning my FWD XT6 at a dragstrip (Cecil County Raceway) that just happened to have a mobile dyno there that night. The results were printed out and those papers are gone. Edit...actually found my old runs I did with the SAFC at the dragstrip. I scanned the pics and posted them up at XT6.net a while back. Piggyback Engine Managment!
Myxalplyx replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Subarutex, Why is it when I ask about the Sensor Calc and Sensor Number setting of the SAFC, you never disclose it? -
Patrick, I have one of those gizmos in my garage. Worked great on my Outback Sport when it was turbocharged. Can you post installation instructions once you complete it? I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. I know it is in my basement or garage somewhere.

Has anyone tried this yet?

Interesting! I'll be looking forward to the charts. This is inspiring. can't wait to piggyback off of your findings...my lazy arse.

Steveman09's E-Manage Project Thread

No, don't make this a MegaSquirt thread. Keep up with the updates on the Emanage. -
Piggyback Engine Managment!
Myxalplyx replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This does not include the laptop. -
I've no luck with Deltacams as far as power goes. Very little gain up high, noticable loss down low (even more so than the gains up high). Top speed will be increased slightly in 1/4 mile. Throttle response will seem somewhat laggy or slower take-off in general.

Piggyback Engine Managment!
Myxalplyx replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
These threads always turn into a Megasquirt thread. If there is anyone in the Delaware Valley that can install and tune a Megasquirt so I would not have to tinker with it again (unless I change my modifications), then I would go for it. Otherwise, for a low tech person like me, this route would be a complicated and frustrating process. As for the SAFC, those people that have gotten it to run, I have two questions..... 1) What is your Sensor Calc set for?, 2) What is your Sensor Number set for? These where the only problems I had with trying to set an SAFC up for my XT6. It was a complete failure because I could not find the correct settings so I had to remove it. SubaruTex, can you help with an answer to those settings please? -

EJ turboing? The EAs seem just fine for that. Boost it up as long as you have enough fuel. -
noob question about boxer sound
Myxalplyx replied to nkx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are you sure about this? Not to go off-topic but an ER27 engine with 2 less cylinders is just about equal to an EA82 N/A engine. 1987 Subaru Horsepower: 97 at 5200 RPM Torque: 103 at 3200 RPM 1989 XT6 Horsepower: 145 @ 5200 rpm Torque: 156 @ 4000 rpm (145/6) * 4 = 97hp (156/6) * 4 = 104lb-ft You didn't say they enlarged the ports to make power though but I figured if they did, they did it for some reason. And, I agree with Will. Both my XT6s and my RX turbo no longer sound like a Subaru anymore. My OBS with the Borla header on the other hand. -
From all the reading here, I've been putting 20W50 in my RX turbo. I've switched my XT6s over to this as well.

Evidently, stock is best. *dyno charts*

Another question: Why is the 1st and 2nd run 10hp or so more than the 3rd run? Skrange!
