Ok so I swapped a 25 sohc from a 2001 Forrester and I love it. However with the awd trans and bigger tires I want a little more for the cheap. Can I put 22 heads on and still use my 25 wiring/ ecu?
-
Actually if your feeling frisky the plugs aren't too difficult to take apart so you can swap the entire wire and pin into the new plug. Try it on your old one I had to do this when I botched my first harness

Chassis:'88 dl Engine:sohc ej 2.5 from an '01 Forrester Trans:d/r awd 5spd and 3.7 rear end Other: variable manual steering, different interior/exterior

Wow big thanks to everyone! I don't know why I was making such a mountain out of this. My car came factory with a push button 4wd the system from what I can tell so far is exactly the same. All my plugs and brackets and lines fit exactly in to the old components locations. So if memory serves me when I swapped the dual range in all I did was pull the vacuum stuff and unplug the switch. I should in theory be able to locate the wiring for the old button and reroute it to my switch and it should work!

Ya I'm really digging the.cable idea because it would allow for movement without that binding issue and than maybe put a spring on the bracket on the trans to help unlock it. I'm thinking repurposing an e brake lever I just have to find someone to make a cable. By chance do you know which way that lever on the trans moves to lock it in, pull towards the front or push towards the back?
-
Hmm Idk if that would be strong enough or if that lever would break.I like the cable idea I could put the lever anywhere that way. Originally I was just thinking to cut a hole in the tunnel and mount a lver directly to the diff lock

So I can't seem to find any diagrams for my center diff lock. I was wondering if anyones ever just removed the vacuum system and put in a lever? Foreseeable drawbacks? Thanks

From my experience it's the little things that really add up. I collected parts for almost a year and found out there was a bunch of stuff I completely spaced. Took me about two months to swap while still going to school and working. My advice is find someone to let you borrow a car if you can.swap is worth it though

Anyone happen to have the diagrams for the diff lock vacuum lines and the wiring? From an '87 I believe. Thanks!

pretty much how it sounds, cant for the life of me find any part numbers for the seals. Need front input, front outputs and rear output seal numbers. Thanks for the help!

thats what i did is lined up the studs on the engine first. those holes fit very snug which i was happy with and the top ones are loose which i figured doesnt matter much. I also made siamese bolts for the top but out of curiousity what are some other ways? my welds seem to be holding fine but i suspect them if theres ever failure Could you drill through the motor or trans and run a bolt through both?
-
Just my two cents but I bougt a cheap piece of plexi glass from home depot and held it to the trans and traced it with a Sharpe( I clamped it to the trans) than I took it and did the same to the engine. The bottom two holes line up perfectly and than you just mark the holes on top and the aalignment Dowel. Easiest way to make a template in my opinion

If I understand your question correctly yes you should upgrade your fuel pump. The injected model fuel pump will work fine.
-
Thank you. That's what I was trying to find I have a brown/ white onn the plug I'm refering to and a black and yellow at the gauge but Idk what's in between. Any chance youou could link me to that diagram?

pulled the covers, t belt tensioner is bad. thank you. dont know history I purchased it from a rolled forrester a year ago and just got it running in my wagonb last week. Looking at the price of the tensioner and belt I think i might as well get the whole kit with the water pump and everything and just do it all at once and call it a day

so finally finish my swap and notice I have a slight knock. It only sounds like its coming from the drivers side behind the timing belt cover. thinking it my be valve clearance I went through and set all those. Didn't change, if i rev it over 2k it goes away. and it doesnt always do it. I pulled the plugs and they look perfect, aside from the noise it seems to be running great. Any advice? Anyone else have this problem? Im thinking maybe timing off one tooth but wouldnt it run like crap?

So im not getting power to my fuel gauge and i suspect the connector by the floor on the drivers side that is for all the wires that run accross the dash to the stuff in the back such as the fuel pump. im having troubles locating a wiring diagram to figure out which wire on that connector is for the sending unit. any help would be appreciated.

I guess photobucket changed their site, I'll try to make the pics visible on this site when I get to a computer. All my pics are on phoyobucket if you want to check them out http://s120.photobucket.com/user/peacewize/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0503.jpg.html?sort=3&o=16

Haven't updated in a while but I'm mid ej 2.5 swap. Basically all that is left is exhaust, wiring and than put the dash back together and get a front end alignment. I'll try to post pics of my progress. So far I swapped to a variable manual steering rack, relocated the coolant reservoir, cut out the core supportand and re done it to fit an ej radiator, installed d/r trans, removed all AC components and mounted my intake in cab where the AC lines used to be. Oh and incase your wondering the new seats are out of a 2010?(maybe '09) KIA Rio p.s. I'm using a 110 stick welder I bought off amazon. It's taken a while to get the hang of it and I wasn't very good at welding to begin with but it's working just fine I think.

As my parts list for my EJ swap get fewer and fewer, I find myself taking every opportunity to push my stock components.I had my friend take this picture a few days ago in Moses Lake. Nothing motivates me to finish my project more then seeing these machines in action. Weather stock or fully built, post your favorite action shots of your car.
