peacewize replied to LeoneTurbo's topic in Members Rides
Very cool, you have a nice looking car I can't wait to see pics of that motor in there -
Nice pics everyone, and nice boots lol. Funny how all the pics with me in them are showing my good side both the girlfriend and I really enjoyed the event and meeting everyone, she's even talking about getting a roo now and Is a lot more inclined to talk about them after so that's a huge plus. As most of you know we ( I mostly) thought it was a camping trip so here's a few pics of us camping. Maybe next time more people can camp out Morning after Went up that one hill for giggles, made it on first try but suffered a causality backing down My muffler

Forgive me for my ignorance but $250? Is that In us dollars? What about shipping? Just curious, I like to know things. Thanks -
I love your seats! I've come to the conclusion that I like any other seats that aren't mine lol

Omg I love it! It's amazing please tell me how you got that color. Since I have not taken my dash out yet I'm still a bit mystified how to change the needle color. Great job

I see. So my primary system has failed...I should run a hot wire to see if it even works, side thought. As for the clutch fan I can defiantly understand how it might be confused since it does seem a bit backwards to ad a cultch fan to a car that's already running an electric fan. Unless it was cheaper from a manufacture stand point but than why not run the clutch fan on every car and only ad an electric fan to a/c cars? Idk. I have read that removing the clutch fan is believed to increase the life of water pump but unless the fan is out of balance I don't see how that would help any. The water pump is still going to turn the same rpm irregardless if the fan is working right or not. Unless like I said it was out of balance, right?

Probably lame but I just realized my status changed from New user to usmb regular:banana: I like this site and everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable that I can't wait to meet some people outside of the forum. I don't know a lot of people that care about cars as much as I do so its very exciting to me to be around people that are -
Nice pics and lifts. You guys almost make me wanna move back over there lol. But the drive over isn't too bad so if I get this d/r gl iv been looking at ill try and come out. Would you guys ever consider having someone ride along? I could leave my car at the beginning of the trail and I don't mind getting dirty so more than happy to help work on things

Thanks for all the advice and links much appreciated. Ordered one this morning so hopefully it will be here before next Saturday or it will be a long drive lol. Like I said I knew quality is the main concern with non OEM but for some reason I was thinking if it failed it would get stuck open, Psh of only right? and even though its not too hard I really don't want to do another head gasket right now so thanks again everyone for sharing your experiences with me

Everywhere I called sells 180 t stats except AutoZone which sells a 192. I figure the extra three degrees wouldn't make much difference. I do understand that quality is of main concern but since I live in a small town I don't have the option to go to a Subaru dealer a get OEM this is the next best option for me. To be honest I couldn't care less if the heater doesn't get blazing hot but since my girlfriend drives it to work everyday she complains it's too cold. As long as I can get it hot enough to make her happy and last through the winter I'm ok with that, after all happy wife is a happy life right? I'm sure we've all been there lol

Transmission swap Questions
peacewize replied to zdriver123's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know people on here have done this swap and know a LOT more than I do so do a little searching for other people's swap it will be helpful for you to see there problems etc. If I remember correctly I read you will need the other drive line because the auto one is shorter. Also Idk if it's the same with Subaru but a lot of cars have beefier joints on a Manuel drive line than they're auto counterparts. You'll need the flywheel and clutch too -
Thanks. AutoZone sells a 192 t stat for $9 Ill let you know how it goes

Poop I don't think my fan works. Before I fixed the gaskets it was running hot. I'm a little confused I swear I read that the e fan is dedicated to the a/c so I thought that ment it will only come on irregardless of temp if the a/c is on? But yesterday I read that only a/c equiped cars have a clutch fan?
-
No I didn't get OEM t stat or rad. T stat was from schmucks. Everything I've done has made the temp more consistent(about an 8th past the c mark) and it holds there. Before as soon as I started driving it would drop to c. Where is it supposed to be reading. About a quarter up I would think? Thanks for the link and advice guys

Lol that's awesome cheers to loop holes -
My 88 dl just won't warm up! When I bought it it was overheating. Rad was plugged. So I replaced the rad and now I can barely keep it above the c mark. After some reading I took off the mech fan. Helped a little. Then I figured since the rad was so plugged maybe the t stat was stuck open. When I removed it I found that someone drilled a hole in it so I replaced it. Flushed out my heater core with rad flush and then 50/50 and filled everything up with a pre deluded 50/50 mix and I still can't keep any heat. I've read that these run really cool so I've been thinking maybe block off half my rad for winter? If I do that I should probably put the fan back on but it doesn't shut off so is there a way to service these or just replace the clutch? Or rewire the electric fan to come on at 180/90? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to usmb from another new user! Naturally I'm going to have to ask to see more pics of your "truck" looks awesome. Also out of curiosity is it hard to get a custom vehicle like that licensed? What is it called on your registration lol -
I love hf for that reason lol. I think I actually got them at harbor freight and one at home depot. Don't get the ones for a drill they don't spin fast enough. Make sure the rpm limit matches your grinder or is rated for a faster grinder then the one you use.
-
Have you tried the grey paint remover wheels for a grinder? I used them on my civic only took three and they didn't leave as bad of grooves as the sanding wheels and I thought they seemed a little quicker.

The only thing that could make that more awesome is if I could have seen it in person. Gotta love technology -
Looking good. I've seen a vid on YouTube of your brat I'm pretty sure. So what's the third eye used for? It looks pretty neat.

First question I have is why does my speedometer not start reading until after I get over 15 mph? Reads fine after that and I can slow down below fifteen and it reads fine but if I stop I have to get over 15 for it to start reading again. Second question is about putting larger tires on. Is there a way to recalibrate your Speedo with the new tires? Any help would be appreciated. thanks
