As a matter of fact I stopped in the middle of my install to take a break and I had that same question so a little search led me to your thread and I read it and thought the I pod was way more useful and awesome! But I don't have one so I continued with the back up cam lol. Nice job with your iPod install by the way, it looks great. -

I just moved back from everett this year and boy does the sun feel great lol. That is the problem with subies, I already found a similar gl with power options and a d/r that needs the same treatment as mine for $350!!! I thought about buying it just to fix and flip it. Hate seeing it just sitting there :S -
Lol ya I've used the dash or the flat spot by parking brake but a quick turn and failed grab pushed me to find a better solution. I'm a little disappointed I couldn't find an adjustable holder but I mostly drink energy drinks so its ok.

I happened to have a peak performance wireless back up cam that I thought would fit were the clock goes and since my clock was broke I figured why not. I know you guys love detailed pics so here it is. Peak performance wireless back up camera First mounted the camera. Screws in to the top two license plate mount screws. Ran the wire behind the plate and in through the bottom screw hole. Put a small piece of rubber where the wire tucks behind to prevent it from rubbing through. Pull all the slack through and than I sealed it with some liquid tape. Caulking would work too. Here you can see where I pulled it through and zip tied the wire to prevent rattling. Also note I left the plastic screw nut and just cut the back off to fit the wire through and protect it. Using a coat hanger I fished it up through the hatch. Little trick for stuffing the wires through the rubber piece is to smear a little grease on the wires. Slides right through Run wires down behind pillar trim and into the tail light housing. Excess wire was coiled and zip tied. The plug ins for the transmitter are straight forward use a test light if your not sure but splice into the reverse light and a ground. Zip tied everything up so it couldn't rattle loose. That was the easy part. Next I had to fit the monitor. As you can see to make it flush requires some trimming of the plastic and a little of the inner dash. A dremmel and hammer/ chisel make easy work of this. Trim the top and bottom and part of the side where the power chord plugs in. Here I only have the bottom tab trimmed Sits flush between the two long tabs after trimming Next I trimmed all the smooth textured plastic in the inside of the front to widen the screen opening. Also made a small round cut for the led. Then glued the monitor to the trim. Here you can see the "smooth" plastic I'm talking about. next run your power wires for your monitor to accessory wire so the monitor isn't on when the cars not. I spliced mine to the cigarette lighter. Wire comes out here. Also in this pic you can see were I had to widen the inner part of the dash. There is a small thin piece of metal on the bottom if you score it on each side with a chisel you can flatten it out to fit the monitor. Last pull the chord out just a bit to plug it in and test the monitor. Gently finesse the monitor and plastic into your dash Remove screen film and admire your work! Over all I would say the screen is a bit small and because it's wireless the screen flickers every time it picks up a random signal. But it was a fun project so I hope you enjoy!

At this point the only thing blocked is the radio and the radio makes it hard to use the ash tray so I took out the stop and just use it for change. Minor inconvenience. Plenty of room to shift although I want to do a d/r swap so well see what happens

Ya it has power steering. I need to do a good clean on the rack I can't tell if it's leaking or not. Pretty much everything was caked when I bought it.

My first subi. 1988 dl spfi ea82 with push button 4wd. Paid $700. When I got it it was running hot and leaking everything everywhere. So far I have pulled the motor put new head gaskets and resealed all the basics, cam seals valve cover oil pan power stealing res. Little tip: don't forget the o rings on the cam towers, noisy as heck and you'll have to pull it half apart again lol. Also put a new rad in. New fuel and oil filters. Brakes and plugs/wires dizzy cap timing belts and air filter were new before I bought it. New front belts. Put amber bulbs in front marker lights and rewired to turn signals. Dash clock didn't work so I installed a back up cam. Rewired speakers. Installed a factory dome light over cargo bay. And installed a cd player adapter and modded it for a cup holder. Also forgot I repainted the rusty old rims and had them balanced and replaced the rusted out muffler. Next on the list is to fix the hill holder and new front wheel bearings. Hope you like what I've done so far! Even used Factory Clips

Closed ( cd player needs wires tucked in back more) Open in third gear. Lots of room

One of my only complaints with my wagon is the lack of cup holders. Wanting to keep my car stock looking I scoured the junkyards. Originally I was looking for the pop out type from an mk4 jetta but I happened to find a cd player consol adapter in perfect condition. Bellow where the cd player would go is a slot with a cover over it I flipped it so the slot was on top and then got a slide out cup holder from a newer (95?) Legacy and carefully widened the slot to fit the cup holder. I also had to notch part of the brackets on the cup holder to fit between the screw holes. The I buttered the cup holder mount with jb weld to the back of the cd player mount. There was a slight gap bellow the so I made a fiber glass cover, plasti dipped it and glued it to the bottom of the cup rest. When you close the tray it covers the gap.my next plans for it are to drill a hole on either side in the middle of the cup holder and mount a small light to a dome light door button so when you open it at night you can see where the cup holes are. I think I can pull power from the stock radio back light wire but I haven't tested it yet. Apologies for the lengthy post but I wanted to be thorough since I'm using my phone and haven't figured out how to post pics yet.

Hello everyone, I am excited to finally be able to post on usmb! Have been a member for a little while but for some reason couldn't do anything but that's ok I have been learning quite a lot. I am from the little town of Ephrata in WA and recently purchased my first Subaru. It's a 1988 dl wagon ea82 spfi with push button 4wd. I bought it with new brakes and tires and 186k for $700. From what I can find this seems to be a good deal. The previous owners didn't drive it much the last two years so I gave it a full tune up. New plugs/wires dizzy cap/rotor oil/air/fuel filters (ran some fuel cleaner first) New battery and new a/c and. Alt belts. After about a week it kept running a little hot and I concluded the rad was plugged so I replaced it. Few days later it was leaking antifreeze on the passenger side head (bad head gasket) and since the oil pan was leaking I decided to pull the motor. Resealed all the basics, New head gaskets and cleaned all the carbon build up off the piston heads and the heads. Runs great now doesn't leak a drop of oil or water and on my last trip to Seattle after the build I got 26 mpg! Something about this car won me over from day one. I really love the subi crowd because it seems you all do tasteful mods (for the most part) and not the schucks special slap together Wtf is this!? I'm used to seeing with Honda's. Anyway if any of you live close by hit me up I'd love to pick some knowledge from a fellow subi enthusiast
