Okay, done with the appropriate band and tool. We'll see how long it stays right.
-
It started this process with a real clamp, and the drivers side is done the same way no problems. I guess this is a justified new tool purchase for a cv clamp tool.

I thinking about rezipping and putting in a straw from a WD40 can under the boot. Any foreseeable problems with this avenue?

Actually this the second time for doing it. First time it came from the factory (World Pack) CarQuest] and I replaced my failing one. So I tore the inner band off and zip tied it. Then it has done it again after being zip tied.

My Maxima Alternator Swap with Pictures
Dinky26 replied to Silas Cruse's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How much of a PITA was it to extract the alt out of the donor car?I briefly looked at one in the JY and it looked to be under a number of the other components. -
86 Brat,4 speed EA81. Why does my passenger side, inner CV boot keep vacuuming down and then throwing the geease out? What can I do to stop this process?

This subject really never computed for me, always had to find a conversion calculator to do it for me, other than the couple of times I managed to do it in school. Except it didn't stick with me. Thanks for the input on this one. Now I just need to make time to switch it out, between doing the HGs on the Forester and maintaining the Tribeca too, needs rear brakes and sway bar bushings changed. . . .oh and then there is the Forester for my niece that through the p0420 code, for like 3 different possibilities..

Timing ?
Dinky26 replied to Dinky26's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Never mind, I am an new idiot here on this item, see now that it lines up. -
99 Forester SOHC 2.5L This setting doesn't seem right, for where the timing marks aline according to what I'm seeing in the Haynes manual. The crank doesn't line up when the 2cams do. It does line up at the top where the manual shows, so that part behind the crank does it provide crucial placement of anything important? Apparently the idiot before me didn't put it back together correctly????.

I'm thinking you're probably right that is the case, I've actually an extra one of these I'll just switch out, since I bought a whole colum off of a member here, I forget who it was without looking, but the keyed part worked better than my old one. Many thanks for all the input everybody.

When it doesn't start I get nothing, except radio, fan, lights all work. The schoomos at Car Quest said the battery was good. It's a manual so it's not the park neutral switch. I think the battery is 3 years old.

I've had this issue only on occasion. One time on our way back from CO with a Forester for my niece, had been running it all day no problems, got in after eating dinner at Freddy's, and NOTHING, radio came on, lights and ect, but nothing to the starter at all. Jumped it and we were off and running again. Ran it all the next week no problem every day for 7 days then on Sunday again, back to nothing under the hood. Started to think it was a Sunday thing, then no problem this last Sunday, been doing fine all week so far. So, I've had the battery checked and it's fine. Earlier this summer it did this, found a loose connection to the battery from the starter, tightened that up, thought I'd cured the issue up till a couple of weeks ago. Any ideas what to look at the next this hits me? I don't leave home with out my jumpers that is for sure.

Yeah, I'm in the process of tearing it down to replace the HGs. Got the intake off and the passenger side valve cover last night, didn't touch it tonight, resting my hand after having really HOT coffee spilled on it. .ugh. . Tomorrow I'll hit it again. Ordered a straight edge to check the block. $80 later I have one on the way. . Ouch.....

Yes this is one sharpe looking car through and through. I would love to to fly up and buy from you, don't think the wife would go for that though.????

My nephews 99 Forester is filling the overflow then pushing onto the ground. Doesn't seem to be overheating or I don't think so, I guess I can't really say for sure 100% since I haven't been driving it. I did replace the radiator on the diagnosis from a shop that said the radiator needed replaced. And it continues to do the same thing. Any other way to tell if the HGs are toast?

You are most welcome Sapper. I'm glad I could give somebody a laugh with the demise of the lacking stickum on my emblem, i was not very happy when it fell off, gave me the idea to repaint my though at the time
