  1. Mine just fell off, didn't have to pry at all.
  2. Is this something I need to replace immediately? It really seams to drive fine, it was shaking on ooccasion, not consistently though, I'm thinking that was the CV axle that was failing, which is now replaced. Going to test it though. Anything special the boot is supposed to contain/protect?
  3. I would be good to put my name in the pot for one of these. Except for I am not really in the mind to take off the roll bar...ugh.
  4. For the standard OEM axles I suggest the World Pack Brand. I have heard many good things about them. I got one earlier this year, Have yet to try my axle though. Cause I had a boot blow out on me and the bearings were a bit worn, in the mean time I went ahead and rebooted the old one while waiting for the World Pack to come in, it has yet to fail me for the past 3 K miles anyway.
  5. I seriously doubt that any of the auto makers are going to dive into this even if it could be feasible, not saying it isn't a real possibility though, cause I think it is. The auto makers have to much to loose by eliminating the need for the bio fuels, and they aren't the only ones in this $$$$$$$$ making deal. The capabilities to have vehicles with MPGs of greater than 50 per gallon are far from new age. Our papa government wasn't going to allow that to become a reality 30+ years ago, way to many $$$$$ they would have lost. But hey I know I certainly can not control things that are not inside my circle, much less butting heads with the government. joe5 I appologize for getting off topic here. I too would like to know more about this invention, I think it is a real possibility. dejellum, you make a good point, we shouldn't be using a resource that is very essential to the human race in excess, we waste enough as it is.
  6. Drained the fluid from the rear differential, fringing nimskull that last drained it put the plug in so tight, I had to weld in a piece of 1/2 Allen wrench to get it out. The impact rounded out the inside, vice grips wouldn't do it on the threads either, idiots.... Put new exhaust gaskets on, not the right ones but they should work I hope anyway, the guys at Car Quest lost the ones I had them order. . . .ugh. . .so I added some ultra copper paste stuff.
  7. I was there too with the hitachi not working right, I think you lasted longer than I though. You'll be sooooo happy with extra performance!!!
  8. I'll let you know how this works out once I get the gaskets in. I put her back together tonight, just no gaskets to go in. They'll be here in the morning. It is quieter now without gaskets than it was before I started this venture ..
  9. I've actually ended up just drilling into the extensions on the heads, I could only get the tap in so far, I probably should have taken them off, I didn't want to mess with tying to get those star bolts out though.
  10. Anybody ever try these on an EA81 exhaust? Need to drill out with a 31/64 bit first. Is this going to make the walls of the bolt holes to thin? The tap needed for them is a 9/16-12 tap, just wondering if that is going to compromise the holes.
  11. Is that transmission a dual range one? As far as engine year goes from what I've learned here is that, it's really hard to pin point what year they were made. The valve covers are one indicator to narrow it down. The distributor is another that can give a range, speaking from personal experience my distributor does not follow with an 86, but of an earlier version 82-84 I think is what we pin pointed down at Car Quest. Anyone feel free to correct me at any point here.
  12. Is this okay to do on a Weber carb? I'm guessing so.
  13. If it were me I would just buy the whole unit new. Such a crap shoot of what you might get from a JY. That being said, if you like taking things apart and putting em back together, as much as I do playing craps, going to the JY might be the thing for you. I also see it as a time factor, for myself anyway.
  14. So what color is the backlight on the unit you have in your dash? That was not the unit that mine came with, it was more antiquated than that. I thought I might still have that unit, nope sure don't I'm thinking it was amber, long gone now though I sure do miss that layout of dash and ect. Makes me very :(
  15. Awesome set up you have got going on. This is nearly the exact car, minus the color 4X4 I started with back in 1995, had that car only 2 years till an inexperienced kid cut me off and just shredded the front passenger fender. Got $1200 towards the 96' Outback I had till 2007, which I'm kicking myself for ever letting go. 2 cars I wish I still had. . .oh well can't keep em all, SURE WOULD LIKE TO THOUGH. Keep up the good work rrgrr.

Changed out the transmission fluid, put the Royal Purple in, should have done that when I first picked the car up oh well better late than never, I figured that was why I was unable to get it into first easily for the past week or so. Then dropped the 5W-30 out and put in the high mileage 10W-40, hopefully that will slow some of the leaks down. Thank you all who gave input for the best weight of oil for these cars, I was running 5W-30 in everything we had, made it nice, same oil for all the engines, this is more better for my Brat though
