  1. Okay, so anybody know what this little do hicky is or does? This is on my 86 Brat with an EA81 engine. It is on a bracket that slips under the coil hanger. New format giving me issues posting pics
  2. Nice job Nick Looks like it will do the job just fine I bet some people will benifit from your rebuild here, keep up the good work
  3. Thanks bud, I am glad you posted that thought, I ordered both the front and rear seals from Shawn. One of these days I'll get her back together.
  4. Wow, awesome!!! Wish I would have run on to this one before I tore mine apart........ugh......oh well now I have this to refer to so I can get it back together! Thank You muchly.
  5. Yeah, drives me insane when people don't pull their listings down for days on end. They'll get their karma some day though, I would like to watch though;-) +1 on the one way ticket! That is how I got my Brat home :) What an enjoyable drive it was too, even though I had to rush home. Keep you eyes open in Montana too, I've seen some that appeared to be worth while there as well. Oh yeah, don't forget to enjoy the ride:)
  6. Welcome to the forum!! And to the wonderful world of SUBARUs Should not be to hard to find one that falls into your criteria, keep your eyes peeled when you are out and check Craigslist often. CL is like a drug to me very hard to stay away from...of course it's only really bad when I have no more room for any extra cars . Good luck
  7. That is an awesome little family of Soobs you have there Nick. My heart goes out you for sticking with farming. I know first hand it IS SO NOT EASY.... Just looking at the combine you have sitting in the back ground tells me you REALLY earn every dime you make. Neither my brother nor I had the will or drive to carry on the family farm, so we had to sell out when my dad passed....talk about A HAARD DAY THAT SALE WAS....my friend JACK was with me all day that Saturday...still brings tears around every now and then, just wasn't meant to be though :'(. Keep up the good work Nick, oh Yeah I love the good looking do you have too:)
  8. I hear you on knowing other Brat peeps in ones area. I know of one other one here in Wichita, I'm about ready to go knock on his door just to say hi!
  9. Very nice wagon! Welcome aboard, lots of good information to be offered here.
  10. I've never really had a good feeling about the Fram Filters. Doubt that I will be buying either one in the future.
  11. Unless if you have two Brats, I don't think this brush guard will fit an 86' Brat, anybody feel free to correct me for I could be wrong:).
  12. Congrats on your new purchase, I think you will be very happy with your new car! I've had my 86' Brat just over a month now & just dearly love it to death....and I can't understand why I've waited till now to get one of these gems. Welcome aboard here! Enjoy the time with your new friend. Feel free to share some pictures of your new little friend;)
  13. Coile= coil- coil filled with oil or no oil just wires? Connecting to distributor...?..right?
  14. +1 with what everybody else has said here. I pulled my first engine myself this week, oh my what fun that was:headbang:, I will do it again in a heart beat if needed. The hardest thing to deal with IMO is getting the old gaskets off.
  15. No, I've not priced bolts at NAPA, don't have one close to check with.
  16. Awesome! Good luck, I saw that posted too, and was very tempted to go look at it....buy it:clap: I really hope you get it.
  17. I'll have to check on those ??s, one thing is for sure though the two short ones or ones on the ends were not near as tight as the long ones. I ordered replacements from the Subaru dealership here in town, should be the same quality. I hope anyway.... I just felt like the ones I pulled out had to much pitting in them to be real trust worthy down the road. When it's been said on here that it is a b....tch to get them out if they break. I've seen some bolts over the years that were less compromised fail, in different uses of course, my dad always told me that if it looked like it might fail...go ahead and replace it cause you probably will later anyway.
  18. How does one tell if the water pump is needing replaced? How much do you want for it?
  19. Nice, I bet they weren't $1.98 a piece:banghead: Except I don't have close access to a Napa store:mad: Autozone and ORielys ran them off:dead:
  20. Thanks man, I need to remind myself on that one....TAKE MY TIME....
  21. Sounds like I'm about at the same point on this deal. How does one know if the orings on the cam cases/towers need to be replaced. Lifters rebuilt??? Should I be doing that before I put her all back together, certainly won't be this month before I'm done though either:lol::lol: Resurfacing heads I've seen both sides on that one, some do some don't??? Looks like to me it's been apart before to, and at one point she got really hot, hot enough to melt the timing covers that are bolted to the engine, seems worse on the drivers side as well, bad enough I had to get the Dremel to get the bolts out of the head, there's about 1/4-3/8" gap below the timing gear cog on that cam tower:slobber:.... Should I be worried?? Of course not going to be my DD, but I want her done right to LOL:clap: Thanks
  22. You are most very CORRECT I'm by no means an expert:grin:really my first time to see....get this deep into an engine, have done most of my routine maintenance up to now but nothing like this, SO YES I am very very GREEN BEHIND THE EARS ON THIS SUBJECT. That being thank you GD for saying that I won't have screwed myself to bad, ditsy is off, t belts are off, cam towers off, heads off... So yes I'll be doing a timing from the get go. The thing that brought this thread to a HEAD was a statement in the Haynes manual that said flywheel needed to be at TDC, well silly me for taking that to heart. I'm sure I'm going to be needing some more assistance here in the near future as soon as I get the heads prepped and ect, prolly be a few days before I get all that done now cause I have to go back to work tomorrow :mad:ugh, amazing how much damage one can do in 2 days:clap: I'm good to here any pointers on doing the clutch as well, another thing I've never done-seen before either. Noticed when I lifted the engine out that one of the cv boots had come off like the clip fell off or undid itself....ugh suppose I should deal with that one when engine is out too. Oh yeah one other thing does this look normal for the tops of the piston heads? Drivers side Passenger side
