  1. I have a 2001 outback auto and i rekon the awd system is great. I cant even notice the lag when it locks up. This is a video, i made of a duty cycle meter and hooked it upto the duty solenoid so it displays the amount of MPT (multi plate transfer) lockup In the video, i drive up to an intersection, turn left and accelerate to 100km.h
  2. Um.... No The 5MT has a centre diff that sends power evenly between the front and rear wheels (the exact same way the rear diff divides power between the left and right wheels) Buy it also has a viscous coupling, which tightens when wheelspin occurs and limits the difference in rotating speed between the front and rear axles, effectively acting as a diff lock
  3. Why did they go to a single port head design? Surely it seems like a step backwards
  4. In Australia, dual core radiators for the old EA82 are unobtainable, but im sure ive seen them mentioned on this forum. Can you still get them and would it be feasible to post one to Australia? Cheers
  5. I was actually thinking of opening up the tape player part, and cutting the wires off the magnetic pickup, then use a little circuit to match the impedance to the headphone output of an iPod and then putting a little headphone socket on the little tape player door. I just have to get around to opening up my stereo
  6. So do you mean single siamesed exhaust ports like the EA82's had? Ive never heard of this before on an EJ. I thought they were all dual port. Have you got any pics?
  7. I just used EFI fuel hose, cut it to length and slipped it on
  8. Why not install a vacuum reserve tank. All you need is a small tank (similar to the one on the right hand strut tower for the HVAC controls) Use one of these, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ALUMINIUM-DRINK-BOTTLE-750ML-NEW_W0QQitemZ370285256314QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Sport_Camping_Hiking_Hiking_Equipment?hash=item5636b89e7a#ht_4084wt_1084 Put a one way valve from the intake manifold, then a t piece, one going to the drink bottle, the other to the cruise control and it will enable you to climb most hills under cruise control
  9. If you are talking about the white vacuum canister between the strut tower and the windshield, it is to store a reserve of vacuum for the heater/air con controls. It should have a hose that goes from the intake manifold to the canister. a hose then goes from the canister into the cabin
  10. Thats a rather interesting point,... i wonder if my idle, or other parts of my tune would improve from just going over every solder joint with a soldering iron?
  11. I am actually in the process of doing this myself. The factory brackets are just 25mm rhs (1 inch box) Ive already cut mine to shape, i just have to punch the holes in them, and weld them on Im using some RX rear trailing arms to copy the brackets from Here are some images of my progress so far
  12. Popping through the intake screams incorrect cam timimg And yes you would be much better off running a NA ecu.
  13. I still dont see why you dont want to use a newer turbo like the TF035 or TD04L or similar. They are so much easier to come by. And because they use a different up pipe flange, it gives you an excuse to upgrade your up-pipe. What will a rare as hens teeth VF6 give you that a TF035 (that flowed enough air to make 170Hp) wont?
  14. The VC ties the front output to the rear output.
  15. Yeah the waic has its own radiator, about 2/3rds the size of the air con radiator. The waic (water to air intercooler) is definitely the way to go
  16. I will take a few photos in hi res. Looking at the wiring diagram for the 4 plug EA82T, it seems that the select monitor plug only gives information that the ECU sees, in analogue form, like MAF voltage, o2 sensor voltage, temp and throttle position. But i'll look into it for you. Also, another question.... do you know anything about the transfer clutch in the 3sp subaru auto transmissions? I want to run a 3sp in 4wd on the road, i was thinking of replacing the 4wd switch with a duty cylce generator and varying the torque to the rear wheels, do you think its possible? Cheers
  17. How does that work (apart from the fact that the metal in the intercooler acts as a temporary heatsink) Here is my intercooler. Its a water to air intercooler off an RS Liberty, (you USA guys would have to get one from a JDM Gen1 Legacy) It makes a huge difference to intake air temps. After driving up a large hill on full boost, if i stop and feel the front of the IC, its much cooler than the back where the air from the turbo enters I also have a TF035 turbo from a GT forester.
  18. Are you interested in hacking the EA82 ECU? Im gonna get my spare one, open it up and see if i can get some information on the CPU. Ive read somewhere that the CPU is similar to the CPU found in Commodore64 gaming machines. Ya rekon it is possible for us to go somewhere with this. My main goal would be just to modify fuel and timing.
  19. We cant really use a calculator like that cos we have Siamesed ports. Stick with the factory pipes, they cant really be improved without massive time and effort put in to separate the ports. Just make sure the collector flows nicely, and then go 2" after the collector with a hot dog halfway and a sports muffler at the rear. It will flow good and will be pretty quiet
  20. So if you can do this to a TCU, is it possible to do the same to an EA82T ECU and modify the fuel maps?
  21. This is awesome! I'd like to know more about modifying the TCU as i will be putting an early legacy 4sp auto in my 83 leone sedan in the near future. Is it possible to modify the shift points and the aggressiveness of the gear changes? I really wanna learn more. How exactly did you hack it?
  22. Dont forget that there are 2 types of TPS for EA82Ts 85-87.5 models with the Flapper style AFM had a TPS that was just a switch. Later 87.5-94 models with the Hotwire AFM had a potentimeter in the TPS
