  1. Theoretically you should be able to. Im sure someone here has done it before. The ecus are basically the same, except that the turbo ecu has a knock control function, wastegate control and possiably a larger fuel map. The 87+ ecu doesnt have a boost sensor like the previous 84-86 models did. I cant see why not.
  2. There was a guy a while ago (D-Cal was his name) that said that the mpu in the ecu was very similar to the commodore64 computer and believed that with the right interface he could reprogram it, but didnt have time to do it. Read this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49014
  3. Good point DaveT, but if i were to have a torque converter with a manual box, i would have it as well as a clutch. I would also like the torque converter to be able to be locked, so i can have 100% power. I just think it would be cool to be able to inch through traffic like an auto, and then change gears like a manual one im goin. But I will keep dreaming cos i dont have the money/resources to do it.
  4. I was actually thinking about having a torque converter on a manual. Do you think it would be hard? How hard do you think it would be to rig up You might only need to move the motor foward or the gear box back 4-5 inches. It would be the best of both worlds
  5. Ive seen an Xt fsm and is says that the JDM MPFI XT got 10:1 compression. So EA81 carb pistons were 8.7:1 were they??? So they would be ok in a turbo EA82 block?
  6. Thanks guys Apparently some fords and mazda 626, mx6 have a rhb5 turbo:eek:
  7. I have a Turbo from a AUDM (i think) EA82 Vortex It has the following stamped on the housing Turbo Spec. VF48803 Serial No. RHB5 16298A Does this mean i have a IHI RHB5 turbo that is a VF4 spec I have seen most turbos mentioned on here as VF7. Whats the difference? Your comments are greatly appreciated Gannon
  8. I want to get some 15x6 wheels and was considering putting 60 profile rubber on them What i need to know is does anyone have say 205/60r15 rubber and does it scrub with stock suspension? Cheers Gannon
  9. I think it is an awesome achievement Personally, i think that its styling should have been based on an impreza, much like Phinz's one. Each to their own,... if the owner is happy with the finished product, thats all that realy matters Gannon
  10. The carb on my paddock basher (85 Toyota Corolla) the carb is stuffed and will only run while you constantly pump the accelerator Anyway, we had a bottle of methalated spirits (98% ethanol) handy so we slowly poured it down the throat. Redlined like a new one. And no smokey exhaust:eek: Yeah Phizinza, i saw that too, i was quite amazed. It was on that show with mat shervington wasn't it? I think it will just take time and public acceptance for ethanol to become a renewable fuel source. Whats wrong with silicon fuel hose, thats what they use on those small engines in remote control cars and aeroplanes.
  11. How about a group buy, that mite save a bit on postage. I want a set and was kinda hoping that when Bratgeebah starts selling his liberty brake kits, there will be a flood on the market of people selling their rear disks. PS. Dont tell anybody about my idea:cool:
  12. I assume you are refering to the rims on the 280hp rx. They are Superlites, made by Performance Wheels. I think they are about $900 a set I wanna get some, but i need more of the folding stuff
  13. You will have to pull out the centre display (the one with the indicators for lights, open doors ect) and pull it apart. inside it will be a heap of small globes and there will be one near the top that does the high beam indicator. I dont have any photos to show you and i dont know where you will find those globes, radioshack maybe. Goodluck
  14. Like WJM said,... The pipe size after the turbo isnt important like it is on a non turbo car. This is because the turbo chops up the exhaust pulses that would normally aid in extraction on a non turbo car. I think 3" with crush bends will be fine
  15. You can buy the T10 led globes off ebay (these are the same type used for the parkers lights) They might be worth a shot
  16. I actually see the logic in his statement. And i cant see why it wont work or why it will cause any problems A boost controler only creates a pressure drop to make the wastegate come on later. I dont see how it could do any bad,... these motors can run 10psi anyway
  17. Ok The EA81 is a 1.8lt flat four engine, it has pushrods (no timing belt) most were carburettored, except a few models in 84 got a mpfi turbo version. This engine was the powerplant of sedans, wagons and hatchbacks between 79 and 84, and coupes and utility (brat or brumby) up to the 90's The EA82 was also a 1.8tl flat four and was made between 85-94 and powered sedans, wagons and coupes, it came in 4 main varieties, Carburettored, SPFI, MPFI and MPFI turbo. This motor has timing belts. Manual transmission combinatios were as follows in 4sp and 5sp- 2wd, 4wd, dual range 4wd, in 5sp only- full time 4wd and full time 4wd dual range. Auto transmission,- 3sp auto, 4sp auto and 4sp electronic auto. These had 2wd or 4wd varieties Hope this helps
  18. Yeah good point, but i suppose we cant all have our cake and eat it too.
  19. How many cars have a compartment built especially for a mobile phone,... not many, especially in cars that were designed in the early 80's Subaru did their research, and thought 20 years ahead I was wondering who else uses this compartment and what for? Gannon
  20. Looks like something from the vent system, possably near the blower motor or somewhere down near your feet. Gannon
  21. You can use a gear puller to pull the flange along the shaft apparently. Get somebody to confirm this before you do it
  22. A fella in Australia has an ea82t RX that puts out 260hp and over 400nM There was a post not long ago about him
  23. Thanks jerry Its a shame it didnt work to how i expected it to. Sure it was heaps better than the stock exhaust, but when i went back to stock headers (cos i didnt have a cat converter on the one i built) i noticed no change in power, just the sound it makes. I now have 2.25" from the cat back with a mercury sports muffler and it rocks:headbang:
