  1. The snow tires suggestion is pretty decent but they do wear pretty quick too. An Impreza might suit you better. A little more power, same or better gas mileage and the 4.11 gears are certainly available in one. LSD rear is pretty easy to find too.
  2. And 75W90 Gear oil. I use Extra S From the subaru dealer but many don't sell it in less than 20 liter amounts.
  3. Thanks for clarifying that. I see so few carb ones anymore.
  4. No. Turbo has screws, ea82's have screws. Ea81 carb models all have clips but the shapes are different. The distributor usually has a sticker saying the brand on it but often its covered in oily mess. Take the cap off is how I tell.
  5. Slip a shop rag between the panel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRjmcRUqXEM
  6. Thank you! I like the shirt design and just ordered one.
  7. I run a small shop. I would never do it. I thought having a bay I rented but my insurance agent talked me out of it and rather quickly I might add. Talk to a business insurance agent like I did. When you hire technicians you are essentially renting the bay to them but you deal with each of them 1 on 1 and can establish rules and such. You rent them the bay but backwards if you really think about it. You rent it for example at 80/hour so they can make you 105 and get back 25. See what I mean? But they bring their own tools, knowledge and experience. And they are supposed to clean up after themselves.
  8. Can't just replace the bearing? Pull the retainer clip and put a new bearing in? The bearing is pretty generic. Maybe I am not visualizing with the photo right but it looks like enough of the part is ok to me.
  9. I often do turn it when still in the car because I can't put the engine on a stand to work on it with the flywheel installed.
  10. Yeah the change is a little confusing. Marshall is still building axles but combined his efforts with his daughters company to be one.
  11. It depends on the size of the CV if I remember correctly. Lots are the same diameter and compatible but obviously there is an ideal one for each axle.
  12. I know! They shut down their factory in China so when remaining inventory is gone..... Was ordering a few CV heads and main shafts from them to replace broken core inventory parts and can't get anything anymore. Frustrating. Working on better ordering and shipping solutions for the FW axles here. I am spoiled having them in the corner of my shop but a couple weeks ago he went to have surgery and I had to order a CV shaft from my supplier who was using EMPI for their parts and was pretty frustrated to have the news confirmed by a 2nd source.
  13. I have it on pretty good authority that EMPI is not going to be selling axles anymore.
  14. Ive swapped the stubs and would do it again in a heartbeat if it was an EA81 car. Not needing a custom axle is enough for me and I share space with my friend and axle rebuilder Marshall Wolf who is known around here as MWE (Now FW Enterprises). Being able to replace one when I am away from home is the big thing.
  15. Neat! I just learned something about Subaru's from the forum again. Been quite a while and I was starting to get an ego.
  16. Excellent choice! A guy that makes great cars greater, now owns one of the best Subaru's ever made! Can't wait to see what you do to this one.
  17. I can fit everything in a very small bag and that one fits in one like the rigid open one linked to above from Home Depot. I really like those as you can see your stuff and things dont rattle in the back of the wagon like a rigid toolbox.
  18. PM me an offer with shipping and I will drop it in the mail. Paypal is shawn@retroroo.com
  19. Did someone add the IPOD interface kit? You can only run one "accessory" input on most of those stock head units.
  20. Doing an Outback Sedan today, same engine as yours. This one has 167 and OIL everywhere. Probably has had them done in the past but hard to speculate as its not an original owner car. Give me a call if you want a quote I am in North Denver near I 76/I 25 and US36 interchange and am happy to use the STI gaskets for the job. Estimate of $1400 with the timing belt components.
  21. They are often torn by guys aligning the car who don't loosen or remove the rack boot clamps when adjusting the rack.
  22. The only place I have ever seen a T70 on a Subaru is on a manual transmission drainplug. And this was done to keep Quick Lube places from draining the trans and filling the engine. Its 14MM allen or hex plug depending on the naming. Rounds out pretty easily with the wrong tool.
  23. I am no expert but that looks like a "21 window" bus that is very valuable. In that condition it would still be restored by many VW guys.
