  1. Are you going to use the factory speakers? If not, use a VOM on the harness to find power and constant power and crimp into those two wires for the terminals on the CD player and then run separate wires for each speaker. If you use the 3m Side crimps you can leave your existing wiring intact so you can reinstall the factory radio later too. When I did mine I just ran new speakers and wires to the rear behind the seats and put the speakers in "truck boxes" so it all can be returned to factory with one big plug.
  2. Do it every 60K. Thats the best outback there is, the ej22 you have is about the most economical engine Subaru ever built and very well known to be able to last 2-400K with regular maint and not going cheap and using aftermarket parts. OEM PCV valve, oil filters, NGK spark plugs, etc will be key to this happening.
  3. A tip: I just leave it all on the intake and do direct comparisons to where on the car the vac lines go to/from. This also makes it so you only need the readily available intake manifold gaskets instead of the carb to intake manifold gaskets that are both harder to change but also harder to come by.
  4. Theres also the differences in the EGR piping.
  5. CCR doesnt post prices because its a real world we live in. Some people, shops, etc get a slightly lower/higher price depending on how many engines they buy (for example Tim has bought 3 now I think) and the year and engine type desired. The cost of parts goes up and down over time as well. (Mostly up unfortunately) There are lots of little nit picky differences between each year of engine that make the price change like 99 and up 2.5, turbo engine, quad cam vs SOHC, etc. If you need an engine price quote just call em at 303-293-9230. They don't bite.
  6. Is it the wrong kind of IAC? I think you need a 3rd one and are on the right track.
  7. Yup, you have to punch it out. Pretty good sized punch as I recall its a 6MM or so. Probably easier if you take the engine and jack the front edge of it up so the trans points down harder.
  8. Is it really about the looks for this many of you? A Subaru is more about reliability, performance and features than looks since day one. This one seems to fill a void in the Subaru lineup. The grill is not that special, its shape is showing up on more vehicles than just Subaru's and isn't that terrible. The XT was ugly, the brat ugly, the justy ugly........whats new?!?!!?!?! I like em still but what they look to me is SUPERIOR to other cars.
  9. 1600 piston is better. The skirt is longer, the rings are tougher, and the compression is 9.5:1 instead of 9:1.
  10. Get somebody with an ODBII scanner to pull the code. Autozone for free, lots of shops for a fee or free, or buy a scanner from a parts store from 60-200 bux. or more depending on the features you want. Diagnose from there or return with the code for help.
  11. Id totally agree there were a bunch just not quite the #'s of Denver. The Rhino buggy's though, SLC is king.
  12. Them and Subaru3. Ill copy this post over to the Historic subaru forum for more opinions.
  13. Try a 1600 (ea71) Intake manifold. Is it 4MM on one end or center to center?
  14. I vote denver and Boulder Colorado and I have been to all of these that have alot: WA OR Ashville NC San Diego Chicago Madison Pittsburgh
  15. 1/2" drive impact wrench is the ticket. You need to spin them hard and fast. It would do wonders to smack the bolt head with a ball end of a ball peen hammer, then tighten the bolt slightly and then try to loosen it. This should break the threads loose. If your inner plastic is broken, break it further so you can get behind the gear and put some penetrating fluid in there. The other thing is you dont want to turn the cams and therefore valves with the crank pointing anywhere except straight up as you can bend your valves, assuming this is a 2.0, 2.5 or late model 2.2.
  16. Damn, I Missed the seafood. Oh well, I wouldn't have had that sort of craving after the problem that began on Thurs night anyway. Details available upon request but you'd have to be insane to want them.
  17. I had a great time, thanks to Qman, Eric, Corky, Richie and all the great sponsors and vendors that they lined up.I got home today and just keep thinking about the show despite going thru the Columbia River Gorge area, Yellowstone, and various really amazing sites on the trip. All of you that wimped out cuz your project wasnt ready are truly wimps. Bring some other car or get a ride from somebody else thats going next time as showing off your work is only a very small percentage of the reward of coming. I should know, twice I have left a project or two behind that I would have rather showed off, this year one I put almost 200 hours into in hopes of getting some appreciating nods from the true believers but instead I brought the girlfriend's 97 Outback. Ej22 converted outbacks arent exactly jaw dropping but man did it run FANTASTIC all the way. I could have bailed cuz the Vanagon wouldn't cooperate but I really would have missed out and theres always next year, maybe by then I won't have the only Vanagon at the meet. I even got the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had on this trip, and it kept me from being there Friday night but it would have have to have been contagious in order to make me skip Saturday and Sunday for sure. That Blue SVX with the 5spd conversion, hood scoop, etc, was a knockout and Jerry's Cragar wheel and exhaust system up the rockers was sweet. If I could afford to I would go every year just to see what Jerry's going to show off and that'd only be 1/100'th of the cool factor. Thoughts of putting together a big meet in Colorado are brewing and what inspiration. It would be an accomplishment to see folks from WCSS and the East coast at the same meet. Thank you for a great weekend.
  18. I just got back but we did a detour to see Yellowstone. I had the title for WCSS3 and I am quite content to never get the title again. Love living in Denver.
  19. Im really crossing my fingers for the person to come to their senses and just return them. Heck, go to Kinkos and have it reproduced on your own dime and send the original back at least.
  20. FYI: Change of vehicle, now in 97 Outback instead of Vanagon.
  21. Well I gotta be positive but I am peeved at the Vanagon right now. I am going to come to WCSS7 In a vanagon that resembles a White 97 Subaru outback instead. Somehow, it seems to lack the Subaru charm of the Vanagon even though its 100 percent Subaru. Oh well no more "crying" I will just have to consider regrouping when I get back, do some actual test runs before I try a 21 hour drive with it, and maybe bring it to MW3. I departed last night and made it almost 3 miles before it decided to try to boil over in classic unburped VW Van form. Except I had it burped so I dont get it. I drove around for 2 days in happily burped fashion so now I wonder if the thermo is sticking or something. I parked in a bank parking lot, pulled the rear up onto a curb, and made an attempt at burping it. No dice unless you count the hot coolant spray in my doc marten sandals trying to melt the bottom of my foot off as I danced around like I was trying to make the sky dump rain. Maybe the secret to driving a Subaru Vanagon is driving it in the winter or rain? It (and me LOL) cooled down enough to coach it home and I tried burping it this morning again to no avail. Even on a steep incline and with repeated burping attempts I am not getting it. I have to wonder if the heater circuit is leaking or not pressurizing enough, thermo, radiator, etc is bad? HRM..... So if youre wondering, is he still coming, the answer is yes. Im going to take my EJ22 converted outback. I have the CB in the car if anybody is wanting to talk nearby. If anybody wants to steal my toaster I will let you know my address.
  22. Nice to see a VW part thats actually affordable in comparasion to the Subaru. Good find!
  23. Maybe we can say hi as were going thru SLC? Not sure what time we'd be thru yet but do you have my cell # from last time we were in town?
