  1. do you still have the other side intact? I believe the rubber one is at the bottom and the caliper pivots up if its anything like I am used to with 95 and older Subaru's.
  2. Doesnt an intercooler allow you to use a little lower octane?
  3. Make certain to be mindful not to remove the adjusters on the slide bars at all. These are the studs with the flat screw ends and a nut on them. Otherwise you wont be able to figure out how to get the window to press to the car and youll have a whistling window. It took me a week to get one on my old Brat pitched right. Grr! I have to agree with the rest this is an easy job.
  4. The ea81T looks a lot like an ea82 engine on the front in terms of where the AC and PS pumps are and where the fan is too if I remember correctly. The lift lifts the body but not the engine so you have a situation where the engine is no longer lined up with the things it normally does. The space between the engine and the radiator fans on an unlifted ea81T car is pretty tight as it is.
  5. Opinions on what I can do? Option A: I use the stock clutch fan on the water pump. Downside #1 is it is 3" lower than stock and requires that I do some moving of the wiring loom and maybe chop a little bit out of the front radiator support along the bottom edge of the car. Downside #2 is also that the fan runs continually even during water crossings but I dont know that I will be doing much of that anyway. Plus # 1 is that it turns as fast as the engine does and runs all the time. Plus # 2 is I dont really have to buy anything Option B: Put an electric fan on it. I do gain the fan blowing directly on the radiator but I have to use a very thin fan as it needs to clear the PS pump and the AC compressor pulser and bracket. Will it push as much air as the clutch fan? Downside: Seems servicing the belts will be harder with this setup. Right now the fans I have are not going to work; they are too wide. I tried the 84 Ea81 carb model AC fan and it has 3 brackets that secure it to the radiator and these are interfering with the pulser AND the powersteering pump reservoir. I managed to make it work with the pulser but barely and I am not 100 percent sure of its worthyness and now the PS reservoir is hitting a bracket too..... Ideas? Anybody know what was done on the Mudrat lifted Silver wagon? (closest thing to mine out there). ea82T experts chime in too Im sure some of this is the same.

  9. The Club owns and operates USMB. We have become a club for the reason of needing a "business name" that is suitable for becoming a Non Profit organziation. The club also operates USRM and is honestly a club in that we are moving toward having meets, organized events, etc. I run around with a title "Administrator" but am technically President of the Ultimate Subaru Club.

  12. Solved now. Remember, 83-84 Ea81T cars have a water pump driven clutch fan. This will not work with a lifted car and really wouldnt do much good either as the engine is no longer lined up with the radiator anyway. Instead I used an 84 Ea81 carb wagon AC fan in place. I had to chop one of the fan shroud brackets off and will run it with 2/3 mounts in place. The pulser bracket and pulser just barely clear. Thanks!
  13. 3" lift on the wagon. I am trying to find a working combination for a fan setup that will allow me to have 1 fan that runs all the time like the water pump driven one, and one that will work when the AC is on. Ideas?

  15. They did make an ea81 car with PS. To add it, your engine has to have the passenger side head with a spot to bolt the pump bracket on. After that you need the pump, bracket, thermostat housing that sticks out different to clear the pump, PS hoses, PS rack, and an engine crossmember equipped for PS (holes thru it). I don't think you are a wuss. With big high tread tires on, the Brat is going to turn a lot harder from a parked state.
  16. Change the oil, drain or siphon all the old gas out, and replace the battery. Attempt to start it and watch for leaks or smoking. Shut down engine if any funny noises are detected and go from there. Buy a copy of How to keep your Subaru alive. Usually 1 on ebay or half.com if you look around.
  17. The older models have had their share of this and usually its because of misrouting the cable. In the old ones its usually going to snap at the point near the steering link because it gets rubbed by a toothed edge piece over time.
  18. You can install the cyclops on the later Brats, so I am going to say an 83-84 Turbo Brat or Wagon...I can't decide. Thats why I have an 83 TW and an 86 Brat....someday it will be a turbo.
  19. It took me 5 parts cars to get the one I now have. I found there is a lot of variations in the turbo, non, cruise/non, etc too. The ends seem the same but the length of the cable is different on all variations.
