  1. Check the ground wire that should be secured to the front of the car and the top edge of the radiator.
  2. Moving to Meet/Greet forum. We have that forum for this sort of thing but also because we don't exclude New Gen owners by having a central forum for all meets. Thanks.
  3. Theres 2 bolts on the control arm that hook to the swaybar. On an auto they bolt in a slightly different spot than the manual trans version. The radius rod blocks are also different as they hook to the transmission crossmembers differently.
  4. Auto and manual trans are different on the radius rods and control arms.
  5. Im with Commuter now. I think you should take the battery out and take it to a parts store for a test. If its bad it will be revealed quickest that way and you have your old one there to core exchange too. Its probably got a dead short internally or something.
  6. I tend to loosen the axle nut with the wheels still on the ground. With some of Subaru's alloy wheels this isn't quite as easy. Putting the spare tire on would possibly get you a bigger access hole for the nut. The axle procedure is very much the same for Newer Subarus as Older ones. There are some real pros on the Old Gen forum that do these in 30 minutes. The thing that might make the new gen axles harder is more stuff in the way to get the axle pins out. Our USRM page has a good writeup on axles and another tip would be to do a board search with user EDRACH and keyword Axle.
  7. Does that mean there might be something useful to be taken out of the spare 3.7 and 3.9 rear diffs I have in my basement that are destined for the crusher?
  8. Did it get charged with the key in that position or in the off position? Did you trickle charge or jump start charge it?
  9. Give me a used alternator and axles anyday. (I love parts cars and PNP)
  10. Way to go Skip! Im going to guess the injector plug in's were backward on that side.
  11. I wouldnt mess with it. Use an engine oil with a detergent in it like Mobil or Valvoline and it won't ever really get that dirty inside. If you have oil leaks, then take the pan off and put a new gasket on but honestly I won't mess with an oil pan unless its leaking and I don't use miracle in a can type stuff in engine oil.
  12. I have a 5 speed in my brat, I got the Brat from Bratsrus1 who installed it. He stuck with the 1pc driveshaft as to keep from having any wobble issues because if you dont get the center bearing installed properly it will bind causing a shake in the ride. I just pulled the driveshaft out of the brat and took it and my EA81 type shaft to a transmission repair shop that will modify driveshafts. I measured the difference just to know but I am leaving that up to the guys at the trans shop to duplicate my brat one exactly.
  13. Adding into to post, Ea81 late model 4wd flywheel weighs around 23 lbs.
  14. I would get rid of whatever it is they have installed to the oil filter and oil pan and go with the stock setup. That sounds like an oil cooler or oil filter relocation kit but I see no point in either of those on a carb model Subaru.
  15. Its a difference of around 9-10 inches on the driveshaft length. They dont lengthen it with the existing pipe, they cut the ends off and weld new tube in and then balance the new tube. The conversion is not going to be that easy on an ea81T wagon cuz your trans tunnel is very narrow. Mine worked because I have a lifted vehicle but I don't know how much fun it would be to put in a stock height wagon.
  16. http://www.ozified.com is the USA supplier of kits that most of the USMB uses.
  17. IM in the process of doing all of my conversion. Mine is more involved because its an 88 RX FT4wd trans. You have to lengthen the driveshaft OR mount the ea82 driveshaft and center bearing setup in. My driveshaft is at the shop being lengthened today. If you go with a turbo type trans you have to get axles made. I ordered mine from CVAXLES after Bratsrus1 did and liked them. Mine will be here any day now. They charge you 105 per axle cuz you dont have a core.
  18. Use the meet and greet forum for this please.
  19. Thanks, I needed this! HEHEEHEHE!!! I rememeber that day. I miss that Brat.
  20. PK: I think you ought to put the lines between the stars so it looks like the skull is cracked. Adam: Thats a pretty darn cool logo. Really glad to see you guys organizing and doing stuff together out there.
  21. I think you might have to pull the chrome one off at the junkyard and compare it bolt by bolt to know for sure. I too like the chrome look better. Ive got a chrome rear bumper I am thinking of installing on my 87, which is a direct swap. You will need those side panels that come with the chrome ones but you knew that.
