$320.30 for the computerized straightening which was 5 hours labor. The cost varies depending on how far off it is and how hard the rack is to hook up to the vehicle due to how bent it is if I understood right. I like yours Mick, but I don't want one JUST like it cuz then it wouldn't be unique. I like that yours has 110,000 less miles on it though! When (if) this engine wears out I will put the super quiet 94k motor out of the 84 wagon in it, or I will put an ea81T in it. This weekend I am going to put my alloy wagon wheels on it and see how that looks.

Lots of pictures of this in my album. The link below takes you to the before pictures and there is a "repairs begin" folder that has a few more of the pictures I took today after getting back from the frame shop. http://usmb.net/gallery/albun99

I now have Jerry's old brat. Pretty well known in the Pac NW. Around May it was rear ended by a Pizza delivery guy that wasn't paying attention. My friend Joe drove it back from Washington for me and it made the 1800 mile trip without a problem...before we even began to fix it. Today I picked it up from the frame shop. They set the frame back to original specifications and much of the damage that was done in the accident has "popped" back to looking normal. Before: After: Next step is to replace the tailgate and then try to get it inspected and titled.

Well I haven't ever owned one that didn't have the volt regulator built into the alternator so I don't think I am at any advantage. I think u have me beat there Skipper. Lets just say it would be a close game of Subaru Jeapordy if the game ever was played.

Is it even possible that he got an alternator that has a voltage regulator built in and has a second VR?

Awesome catch Skipper. -

I believe these weigh around 2800 pounds and with 115 HP that isn't terribly amazing. But the transmission in the RX is the nicest one to have.

In 85 and 86 they had a 4dr sedan and past that they were all "3 door" coupe models with the liftback gate. These aren't really known for their 0-60 track times IMO as they are fairly heavy. Like any Subaru they are known for the traction mixed with a good engine that gives you a fun car to drive on twisty roads with minimal traction. Some guys in the PNW area are running them in Rallycross and doing quite well...in fact all of the Subaru's up there are doing quite well. With primary power going to the front with the 4wd off, and 4wd engaging the REAR wheels....the Subaru's excel at the fun stuff.

I always forget about the 2 letter block. The RX has a stiffer suspension than the regular GL. 5 speed manual trans with center differential lock and a limited slip rear differential. 3.70 final drive. Body kit gets you some molding on the bottom and an air dam for the front along with a spoiler on the rear deck lid. Seats have a cool checkerboard pattern and are very stiff. I believe they usually have the height adjust lever on the side. Engine is the regular ea82 turbocharged engine with around 115 HP. The newer the ea82 you can find the better as these have "gen3" heads and were less prone to cracking. As you can see in the post I linked people have intercooled them and added hoodscoops. Lately, lots of 5 bolt hub conversions on these as the 4 bolt 140MM wheel pattern doesnt give you many sporty options and the standard hubcaps are usually tossed due to being somewhat ugly. If its $1000 and not rusty its definately worth a pursuit.

Did you try the search engine at all? Use this keyword, besides the obvious ones like RX, etc... Subarutex, Dr Rx. This is a big one that SubaruTex put up. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6093&highlight=subarutex

Read this post. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4554&highlight=torx Really trying to get everybody to use the search feature, its half of why we migrated off of Ezboard and I am finding it isn't being utilized very much. -
Anyway to know If a Tranny is Good?
ShawnW replied to Scrub2k's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Drop the trans pan and inspect the internals that you can see and look at the fluid color and trans filter. Smell it. At that point if you don't think anything is totally fubar then about the only direction to go is bench testing it at a shop that does trans rebuilds or something or to install and test it. -
Nominating somebody elses Subaru/photography instead of your own might be the cool way to do it. Examples: 1. Memorial tribute to Jason.... 2. Rubicon welding 3. Jerry's Brat at WCSS3 in all its shiny glory....working on returning it to that status right now.

Try the USRM? http://usmb.net/repair/?CurrentDirectory=FOLDER_3f29dd8b797565.58568597/&FileType=Article&File=ARTICLE_3f2e1983b92179.98068180.art Thats how you wire it without the switch and relay. I think we have the scan image file for the real wiring but I am having trouble finding it. You might try doing a search here though.

Victim #1 is locked safe and sound inside a frame shop so at least it should be out of the woods for a 2nd tweaking.

AT modulator Valve, what does it do?
ShawnW replied to ShawnW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks everybody. I replaced it with one from Advance Auto. $15.38 later I had a transmission that shifted way lower and more normally. The internals on the old valve looked bent when looking thru the little hole. Really liking this car more and more as I own it and fix it up. Might be time for a rear disc brake conversion....just need a donor car (2wd XT turbo). -
I have owned two that were both from Jerico. Use this page and tell us which one yours looks like and somebody will be able to tell you what brand yours is. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/toppers/toppers.html

AT modulator Valve, what does it do?
ShawnW replied to ShawnW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool, sounds like at least many of my symptoms will go away with a new valve. It comes in tomorrow morning. It appears to just thread in. Thanks for the help! -
Would anybody mind explaining the trans mod valve? I have heard that if your car smokes really bad but it doesnt seem to be coming from the motor that this valve is probably the culprit. The car shifts rather late and the other symptom is that the car shifts from park to a moving gear HARD. I think the last symptom might be trans or engine mounts but I haven't checked them yet. (Car is an 83 FWD Coupe 3AT)

Need Help Convincin' The Fiance
ShawnW replied to the_bard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does she have to drive it? That alone is usually a step in the right direction. If she doesnt have to depend upon it then her letting you be happy will normally win. I suggest you discuss it with her before the wedding. Establish rules and communication before you are married. Its not like you are asking for a crotch rocket or something "dangerous" you want a safe old reliable Subaru. -
Hacksaw, jigsaw, it all works.

Got any pictures of your Brat? Mill Supply sells rocker panels for Older Subarus. Do a google search and they should come up.
