  1. Agreed, same track record here, same idea and I don't change the grease. Especially if they have a guarantee with the part.
  2. Its usually the door card and the scissor (regulator).
  3. I had a 4wd 5spd Dual Range transfer case one of those vans for a while. Dumbest move I ever made was selling it. It was great off road but had a pucker factor because it felt so tipsy and you were sitting on the front wheels. Its an absolute shame that we can't get cab forward vans in the USA anymore. Easy to park, easy to drive but also first on the "scene" in a car accident. To me, that is a non issue-just drive defensive with oncoming traffic on 2 lane roads and don't rear end anybody. Oh well. I sold it to a guy that HOUNDED me for months to sell it and I got a lot of cash for it. Now I am looking for a Previa that isn't a fortune.
  4. I think the only other trans that might make a nice donor is a Xt6 5MT but I haven't been able to get enough time to clear every workbench in my shop to have all the tranny's apart at once. As a bonus those are 3.9, and I think some have the spot to mount the lo range stuff in them already cast to the case.
  5. I can ship you one for $47. New pump, not reman, includes gasket and the o ring for the water pipe that goes to the radiator inlet. Contact at the link below.
  6. Im not sure that is true, the ones I have done in the past the base for an ea81 and ea71 were the same bolt pattern.
  7. I moved your thread over here to the retrofitting forum to get better exposure. The driveshaft: Have your original 1 piece lengthened. The shifters: If you are doing the 5speed dual range conversion contact Bratsrus1 (Jerry), he makes a kit that has the crossmember and shifters all modified to work in your car and look completely factory when you are done. If you are doing the Legacy/Impreza EJ trans you will have to use the factory shifters and lengthen them to reach the tunnel in places if I remember correctly, as well as drill and cut the crossmember brackets from the EJ car to bolt in. Much harder to do.
  8. The best old Subaru memories I have had are all in unlifted rigs. Smooth, still capable, and dead on reliable. Sometimes I think a few of the "upgrades" are downgrades in the end but I love em all.
  9. I have a nice, working, formerly rebuilt disty from an 83 Brat with Hitachi disty. Would let it go for $80. Has the vac advance done, nice looking cap and rotor and everything worked great when pulled. Can probably find the coil that came from it too. Removed to do an Ej22 swap.
  10. Start with, does the dashboard of your car say its equipped for adding A/C?
  11. Are you sure you couldn't put a shorter surpentine belt on the Olds? Don't get me wrong I am happy to hear you are driving the Subaru again just seems like it could be bypassed. Maybe a Northern Climate version of the car never had A/C and a part number is easy to come by? Otherwise do the string method and figure out how long it has to be to get around the Alt and PS pumps and go with that?
  12. Really appreciate you sharing this on the forum. Im going to move this over to the 80's thread in case anybody over there knew him and missed this in the Off Topic area. Sorry to hear about your buddy. Just don't drag yourself down too long as he wouldn't want you doing that and instead would want you to continue to do things like he would; help out friends and such when they need it like he did. I think this was his first post here in the welcome area: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=129206
  13. I had it figured out when I saw the video and remembered your PM's.
  14. No washer on these cars. What did you torque the nut to? Spec is 159 foot pounds.
  15. Because in its life somebody replaced or chromed its bumper.
  16. I haven't done this in a while but this is getting a sticky. Unstick 30 days from today.
  17. On the water temp sensor use the one from the car and orientation doesn't matter. That just tells the dash gauge the temp for the driver. For the exhaust I would assume a mid pipe from a non carter system car would bolt in and likely only have the resonator in that position. At a minimum it wouldn't have the ASV system pipe in it. I have always unplugged the two mentioned valves, removed them and their vac lines.
  18. Can probably just dry out the ECM if that did happen. Pretty tough sometimes.
