  1. Center punch then Left Hand drill bits to walk them out. Pretty common as these are rated at around 6 ft lbs and people use air tools on them.
  2. All of Subaru's pistons have A or B sizing within each size. You can order a Standard size unbored piston in an A or B size which is very minimal difference. The block should have markings on it to indicate what the bores need.
  3. There is absolutely no way you can say aftermarket cats don't fix the problem. Not all cats have the same amount of precious metals and such but some have to be as good as the genuine part. I replaced my wifes cat on her Baja before trading it in and we got 8K miles without the code before trading it with an aftermarket cat and reuse of 180K mile sensors. I recently quit my job as a tech at a dealership and replaced lots of cat pipes for the 420 code with no comebacks. Im not saying that the sensors shouldn't be replaced but I got away with not replacing them. There also can be more to it than this as well. Previous damage done by blown head gaskets, exhaust leaks, poor valve adjustment, bad spark plugs, loose airbox, and other things make the 420 code come on as well. I fixed 3 by properly securing the air filter box after air filter replacement done by people that can't seem to get the tabs in at the bottom. Proper diagnosis is key. The Select monitor tells you the numbers and you can tell what is bad with it. It may be worth it to have diagnosed by the dealership at a minimum.
  4. Any of these are going to depend on the brand and type of heater used. There are dealer ones here that replace a coolant passage access plug and thread into the engine block, there are ones that glue to the oil pan, some that go into the dipstick hole and replace the dipstick (though I haven't seen that kind on a Subaru yet). Most are the first I mentioned. The best way to get the cord if yours is this kind is go to the dealer and buy the whole block heater kit. The kits I was installing at the dealer were the same as the one I have installed on my 84 Subaru so its likely the same thing for you but just compare the end of the cord of the end of the block heater to verify. The kit will have cord routing instructions,
  5. Buy a loyale off craigslist and run that. Should be easy to find a $2-400 car put a few dollars into it and run the race for under $500.
  6. There were numerous failures by people using PVC on Subaru converted Vanagons. I recommend stainless steel and I have a feeling if you look online there already is somebody making such a thing for your project.
  7. Great pictures. Come out to Colorado next year we have a great program out here. I will be watching for an event I can do in Utah next year as well.
  8. Whats the timing set at? Old spark plugs?
  9. That one is a 4 rib, the 4pk part, if you can find a 5PK0700 or very close on the end like 690-715 I bet would also work and would be 5 rib belt.
  10. I have the same thing only horizantal unit and I put mine in a little lawnmower closet in the corner of the garage and it made a HUGE difference. Might help to put a piece of foam under the wheels and base as the noise seems to resonate thru the floor a lot. I find myself using my 3/8 cordless alot so I don't have to use it.
  11. You dont want to run the pump without fluid it can seize and break the belt. There should be a belt part number here that I posted in the past.
  12. Does the car still look that good? Nice find all the same congrats.
  13. I don't think it necessarily fell apart it just became more cost prohibitive. It would still be worth the $ to have just the old price was more appealing.
  14. Sounds like a really late Ej22 to me. Its just got a head that looks like a 2.5SOHC head and a 2.2 block. This one is interference and usually comes in a 99-02 base impreza or legacy.
  15. I have heard of people with carbed cars being swapped needing a separate surge gas tank, basically you pump fuel from the big tank to a smaller fuel cell where it is pressurized for EFI and runs the car off a gallon or two at a time? Having never done any swaps on cars that didnt start fuel injected I don't know for sure.
  16. Just be certain that you never rest your hand on the shifter as you drive down the road as this messes up the teflon slider pieces on the shifter fork rings. I don't think the Japanese ever thought these cars would last this long.
  17. Sweet! Theres a few owners of that car on here from Denver to Ft Collins that I can think of. You'd also like AWDPirates.net for a more local forum. Not as "clean family friendly" as here but keeps me smiling. What have you done to the car so far?
  18. I was there YEARS ago. I am happy to have the yards I have here in Denver now. I wish he would have placed the cars on some pavement and on blocks to prevent all the corrosion.
  19. Thanks for posting not sure if its here already.
