  1. hope so ! but its all about the fun of the weekend
  2. i put a WRX rack in my 83 brat and it fit but i had to reclock the angle of the steering shaft, it points down more then the older racks i had to use tapered shims like you would a rear diff in solid axle car and remake the hold down straps , the inner tirods are a lot longer so i had to cut them and thread them up more , the hole for the stering shaftand power stering lines had to be made bigger too . it may be easier in the EA82 car ?
  3. its just over 2200 lb but i think it will push over 2500 lb with the sti engine and tranny , its not so much the car that is heavy its all the 4x4 drive train but thats around 900lb lighter then a loaded STI . I am no longer concerned about the weight its faster then the tires can hold
  4. sure drop it off and a bus load of cash and it will be dun i have at least 25,000$ in to the brat over 10 years still cheaper then a new STI im also helping a friend do a 83 2dr sedan with a simmalar setup EJ swap
  5. CORRECT !!! i got a 2004 USDM complete STI in parts so the motor tranny and rear diff will be swapped in but it may not happen till this winter if i still want to drive it this summer , it will require new custom axels , wiring ,diff mount and shifter boot , and i havent figured out if i will need to make the tranny tunnel bigger " i think yes " so cutting and welding in the bigger tunnel is going to have to happen .
  6. this is an up date on my brat as it is now, i added the STI seats powder coated intake and role bar guess what this is and what it may go in to ???????
  7. ya the gear brakeage with a miss match was my consern we use to go through lots EA high low ranges that we started to put miss mached gear sets together and the first thing to brake in the rebuilt case was the mixed gears eg. reverce or first or second since they are non removable from the shaft . we had good luck with crio treating new gear sets in 2.5 RS trannys when we turboed them they held the power but almost always broke 2nd gear un treated , proper case retorqe and sequence is also nessary to gear life . its still amazing that they hold the power and tire size and abuse they were not desined for as long as they do
  8. ill try to get some pics and an up date this week along with the secret project stuff for my brat too
  9. i have the rings for the brembo swap but after several smaller hub rings i have determined its not worth having a ring for the smaller hole backing plates ( wrx, leg.,) STI use a bigger berring hub so the hole in the backing plate needs to have a ring so the holes are drilled half in the ring and half on the backing plate , just re drill the 3 holes in the backing plate as needed its not overly important that its exact as long as you are with in the 1/8th that the ring would center it .
  10. thats what i thought just couldnt conferm it yet , i was a bit concerned with using mixed matched gear sets , they should last if the teeth mesh good .
  11. so you used all the gears from the EA duel range case and just put them on the 4.11 AWD shaft ? good job ! i was going to get around to doing somthing like that , but i wanted to have the 4x4 lock so its not AWD , but there is no 4.11 pinion with the proper end for the locking center diff out of an RX that i have seen .
  12. bent valves for sure ! they bend almost all the time when the belt brakes . but you may be lucky . do a compression test if its low then they are bent .
  13. speedo ? i know im going too fast all the time ! , makes it a suprise when the cop tells me :) LOL ,

Im using the stock speed sensor for the ECU and just dont have a working mechanical speedo , im woring on finding a splitter or see how the older EJ ECU's use the speed sensor in the dash , the fuel injected EA cars have a speed sensor in the dash too , just havent got around to checking that yet . let me know what you find out

  14. CANADIAN CREW SAYS NORTH WEST !!! last time it was over 14 hour drive but fun ! hood river was realy nice tho so was Astoria .
  15. Good job man ! I also made the EJ E brakes work too , i used the EJ handle and cables , ill post pics if interested .
  16. Left is a VLSD and right is a open , note the large cone washer on the end spider gear and the case thickness difference , this diff is build for smooth operation and low traction , like ice and mud , not all out rock crawling , but any grip is better then transferring power to the wheel that has nun . from what ive seen the older 85_? RX LSD's and 90's-? STI's have the stiffest clutch packs , they cause a lot of under steer !! but great off road !!
  17. from what i know they were dealer installed and they dont all fit the same , every one i have seen look to be in a little difrent spot. i went to measure my stock ones so i could re instal the new ones after paint and i found they were over 1/2 inch out from side to side and never even knew till i checked , so i just put the new ones on whare they looked good
  18. you use a 12 point 10mm socket or if the housing is off you can use a 10mm 12 point box end wrench .
  19. why would it need to be removed ? unless you are replacing the berrings and seals ? , the two ends come off with out needing to remove it , also you could mark the impellers so they can be put back in the same spot . but its still not recomended.
  20. ya just remove all the bolts and it will come apart but the inner bolts on the exhost side have a tendency to just brake off but you may get lucky , also dont take the nut off the impeller shaft or rotate the two turbines out of aliment they are ballenced as an assembly . if you do it will not last long unless you send it to a shop for a reballence .
  21. oh ya you should do a lot better with AWD , my brat is 2300lb and ruffly 320hp 2.0L wrx engine VF34 sti injectors STI TMIC and cobb AC computer tuner headder and 3in exhost . V8s dont see it coming
  22. i totally disagree ! AWD!! and you will be in the 13-14s times i run my 83 STI brat and get high 12s times high 7s in the 1/8 mile with wheel spin all through 1st gear if it was just rwd i could spin in any gear at any speed ! your brat should be under 2000lb with a 150hp engine , a 2.5l AWD Impreza should be 2800 -3000lb with 170hp you have 1000lb on that car , you should be faster !! but RWD is so much funner in the corners
  23. can you do pay pall ? or do you just want to mail it ? pay pall account is under rguyver@hotmail.com Regan Ritchie 885 franklyn rd Kelowna B.C. v1x3v2 Canada

ya 10$ + rufly10$ shipping if you are in western U.S. 20$ even shiped thanks

  24. I had to do a similar fix to the rear when the lift bolts broke out of my car you will have to find the spot right over the bolt hole in side of the car and cut a hole in the floor big enough to get at the top of the bolt and re weld a nut in then patch up the floor , there will be a couple layers to cut through . good luck !
