well it would depend on how complicated the tank was going to be but a custom box is still going to take me a day to build with taped fittings and mounting brackets so still 100$ but if you just wanted a tank out of 1/4 Alu a spcific size and you did all the fittings your self then 50$ but it would only be a welded box , if you were going to go with an external pump i would just buy the one already built .

this should work good as a surge tank and i cant build it for that price it would take me a day to fab up the parts and 30$ in fittings . but you would have to use an external fuel pump to run the engine . http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=RCI%2D2010A&N=700+400379+4294920243+4294903853+115&autoview=sku

I say Do IT !!!! NOS isnt that bad if you follow some rules #1 dont over do !a 50hp shot kit for a V8 is like a 200 hp shot on a 80hp 1800cc engine , #2 use proper plugs and a good coil so you dont blow out the spark , #3 dont make sure you have good fuel pump and supply , if you run lean you will melt a piston . i also have to mention i melted a piston on my first attempt but a 50hp shot only makes the car feel like a turbo car , its not like the Fast and the silly ware the world blurs and you are sucked in to the seat like a jet plane , you will find its only good for the drag strip .
-
sure but its not the money its the time and thats what i dont have much of , it would be easy for me to make a box to your size you need and i could weld the fitting pads and mount brackets , but its the cutting sizeing and drilling and taping that takes the most time if you were willing to do that it would be cheaper , 100$ is a nice round number , if you really wont one let me know exactly the size and ware you want the hose fittings and brackets , a simple drawing would be best , but i cant promise a time i would have it finished i would have to do it in my spare time .

this is what i did it fits the stock EJ fuel pump and sending unit that i shortened to make the tank smaller , so the stock carb. pump fills little tank and returns when full to the big tank and the little tank runs the engine the engine returns back to the little box if that makes sense ? if i shut off the carb. pump it will run for like a 1/2 hour on just the small tank if im easy on it

if you remove the impeller from the shaft you will have to get it rebalanced or you will just be getting a new turbo in a shot time the intake is balanced to the exhaust side , i have seen turbo shops mess up turbos before so find a shop that knows what they are doing

Seriously going to put sti motor/drivetrain into wagon
rguyver replied to Jeepman775's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
some of the modification's suggestions are getting a bit out there ! what is the cars final purpose ? track car , drag car , street racing ? or just to kick some mustangs rump roast off the light on the daily commute ? the stock body and suspension is fine for the most part , brakes and tires would be a must for safety . I would drive my 83 brat with stock suspension, brakes and no body stiffener with a VER8 sti engine and tranny with stock R160 rear and it would be fine for years you would have to drive it like it was a hand grenade just dont pull the pin unless you are prepared to die but for a daily driver it would be fine . -
the rear Xt6 hubs should just fit on like the later EA82 cars and the disc brake backing should fit too , my friend did the 4 bolt disc brake swap on his gen 1 brat and the XT6 5 bolt goes on the same .

1998 - 2003 2.5RS Auto, rear diff question
rguyver replied to Knichol's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
it would apear that is what he is talking about . but i swaped out my 83 Brat 3.9 R160 for a 3.5 2002 Wrx R160 the way i explaned , i also hope you know that the front diff is not a R160 ? as you are asking for swaping out two diffs ?? i would only asume you are have a EJ 4.11 tranny or have a lifted wagon with the Transfercase and extra rear diff in the front ? -

1998 - 2003 2.5RS Auto, rear diff question
rguyver replied to Knichol's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
They will fit in your Loyale but you will need the CV axles with them ! they dont use the pin and spline cups, the CV push in to the diff. , but you should be able to remove the inner joint from the RS CV and put in the balls and joint from the Loyale in the RS cups. -
If you need one ill keep it under 190$ shiped but i dont think it will be much cheeper.

AAWWWW i was expecting too have a step by step explanation on how to blow up a Justy ! but i already know that you only have to just drive one and it will blow up Really sorry about your Justy but i REALY like SUBARUS but the Justy is like the step child no one really liked . they were a good idea and i know people that have really good luck with them but they have a bad name when all you here about is the ECVT trannys dying and rods breaking . they need to be maintained more then a standard Subaru

First off find out what year EJ 2.5 STI your going to use ( 04,05,06,07,08,) is it a JDM engine ? also year of 6speed ? they all have there differences , eg. the 04 6speed has the a simpler ECCD (electronically, controlled ,center, diff) thats less integrated in to the ABS , traction control and the late 05-08 have a drive by wire throttle. also year and model of EA wagon will make it easy or hard a 85- ? turbo wagon would be best for the cross member turbo up pipe clearance and rear sway bar mounts . i would say collect the parts/ car and you will get help the build it. -
"however if it isn't ready for wcss10 then somebody kick me...:-p" Im closest i'll kick first

I cant add truer words that havent already bin said but , only bash the how bad the other Boards are with there know it all that dont! and if you do know something some one will just trash on you. i know all the swear words in the book but dont need to read them or need to post them . USMB ROCKS ! there is a free amount of good info shared , with out wanting something in return . People that can see how cool a stock 80 4x4 wagon is and get excited when it only has bigger tires Not everyone just has a WRX and wants to know how much HP the cold air intake and cat back exhost will make WHO CARES !!! ARE YOU GOING TO RACE IT !!! ON A TRACK ! no! so you dont need to know . But really i like that you cant just go out and buy add on's for the older Subarus this makes me like the people that do stuff like EJ swaps and carb upgrades and why i come back to see the new ideas

no so far it seems to be ruffly 50$ max to any where in the U.S. thats what it cost to Florida, for a 1-2 week ground delivery time, unless its in the upper north west coast near me it gets a lot cheaper and faster . and yes Alaska is still far away from me its all in how fast you want it ! it also depends on what shipping company i go through , letting me know your needs on a delivery time will help or if you just want it the cheapest , it seems like a 3 week max for the cheapest ship . i have also had a request on the type of bolts to use i tap the holes for standard coarse thread so its easer to get bolts at a local hardware store but if you want its possible for me to tap them in a metric size but i may have to charge extra just because i may have a harder time getting proper size bolts .
-
yes it will fit but its a little different then the actual EA81t header it has a O2 hole in the up pipe .

I now have only 5 adapter plates left (12-12-07)

If someone wants to buy my WRX swap for 6000$ ill show you how a Ver7 JDM STI fits in to a 1983 Brat  and im not kidding i have a line on a 2002 STI drive train and i just dont have a cash to drop on it right now . i anticipate some tunnel cutting and welding but wow six speeds of gear jamming and 400hp 6000 rpm clutch dumps :slobber: (up graded engine of course) in a 1983 SUBARU it almost scares me the real question is what will break first ? i think it will be like this 1st tires ,2nd axles , 3rd drive shaft, 4th the cops patients and last my drivers license . but man they wouldnt see it coming.

Roller Drivetrain
rguyver replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im only adding my two cents because i commented on this thread first . i know there is a lot of lap top dynos out there and they all think they have a 600 hp Chev 350 but just buy adding a high lift race cam and over carbed 850 holly on a 1980 low comp smogger engine just because some add in a hot rod mag. said it will, is no reason to step on there dreams of that . but giving them the proper info to build that dream is better. ive raced guys that think they have 200+ hp hondas in a known 110hp car and they learn fast that the header, cat back, MSD coil, and short shifter dont make a race car "knowledge" will . that said if you want a 200 hp EA81 this is your list block re sleeved to largest bore pistons you could get 2.2 or bigger hi comp pistons 11:1 prepped with block main pins to limit flex high volume oil pump cam custom grind for max lift and duration for your needs the air craft duel port heads are a MUST!! with valve springs for your cams lift and rpm range port matched intake and exhaust solid lifters and stronger push rods stock shaft rockers are one of the toughest out there fuel injected engine management with dyno a tuned settup dist replaced with a crank pickup and computer controlled spark equal length header with tuned collector pipes cold air intake with high flow filter I could go on and on but at best this will only brake the 150+ hp range the cost is over 10,000 $$ and all you have is a belt less EJ22 that will cost me $100.00 at a pick and pull and it will make 140hp all day long . but at least you know what you would be getting in to when you build that stomping EA81 and you are not the only one that has thought of making it happen -
Roller Drivetrain
rguyver replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try the air plane companys this one use too have roller rockers and the duel port heads , the biggest limit to the EA81 engine . http://ramengines.com/index.html but for your money i wont tell you what you need to do -
will not work . sorry the xt6 hubs are the holly grale of the 5lug swappageness

the EJ flywheel is bigger around at the starter teeth and will not fit in the EA tranny , and that causes the starter to not work , trust me if there was an easy way to get the better EJ pressure plate and clutch with the Hi/Lo tranny im there !! if you find something out let us know I have thought of using a 1/2" spacer behind the EJ flywheel with the adapter plate , then remove the starter gear ring from the EJ flywheel and getting it machined down to the size for the EA one but thats more of a pain in the rump roast then im willing to go . there is actually no difference in the stock pressure plates except for the offset for the stepped flywheel in the push non turbo clutches , its just that you can get stiffer after market pressure plates for the EJ stuff easer center force did make a plate and disc for the EA cars but i think its discontinued . the WRX disc is only about 5mm bigger and all the trannys have the same shaft splines , except for the old 4speeds .
