  1. If they are the same as an SVX there are some here at my place. Summit Racing has some that work and are the speed bleed variety.
  2. My best guess is in order 1. Valve cover 2. Bad rear main 3. Bad tranny pan gasket (but I doubt it as it would usually go back rather than straight down at speed).
  3. Not so sure why you want an Outback OR a GT. Even a standard Legacy will outhandle, outbrake and get better gas mileage than an outback version (same with the OBS). Besides, it should be cheaper to buy. As for a 2.2 vs 2.5 head gaskets are the only real issue. If you buy from a dealer and get a 2.5 get a warranty that'll cover 'em and your fine (if you buy privately you can probably still get a warranty from a company). Other issues along with any 100k car, clutch, auto tranny (if not well maintained) brakes and esp rotors.
  4. Oh it's a fuji engine!!! No Toys here. Its all Iron too!!!
  5. Hmm... I've owned 2 EA-81s for well over 200k between the two and was never left sitting in one. I have a EA27 that left me sit 2x in 50k as a timing belt broke (which was replaced within the 60k I might add) and an alt went and within 15 minutes I was motionless. I have an EJ33 that is the only Subaru to let me sit (granted not engine related but Alternator went out and within 15 minutes I was motionless). I might add that didn't happen when my EA-81 alt. went. I drove it for another 2 days until the part came in. Never left sitting in a Justy Never left sitting in my wifes POS Legacy but granted it only has 13k on it and I hate getting behind the wheel. My vote though goes for my EF2 for the most reliable if I ever get the darn thing unseized and can fabricate a head for it. I'll bet Moosens doesn't even know what that is!!!
  6. Not a clue, just something I was told was different from the 1.8 to 2.2. Really I think you'd be fine though. Like I said we pulled an SVX with a 1.8 tranny and it probably would've been just fine had we replaced the TCU with one for a fwd car. It just got lost when shifting.
  7. Yes but my understanding is the 1.8 was weaker as it was missing some clutch packs or something so it may not last 200k. It'll fit just fine though and we even had a fwd 1.8 tranny driving a 3.3 that was originally awd for a time being but the tranny wasn't very happy as we even had the awd tcu controlling it.
  8. Should have been lighter. Check Subaru's specs for each year. On average probably 40lbs lighter in the sedan for the US market.
  9. That's only people who have an externally mounted gauge. Mine in the pan is usually about 100 degrees above the outside temp with no ac and 105 with ac. That is with my typical garage queen driving as I've only put about 3k on it in the past 3 years. Highest I got was 217 while sitting in traffic on 95 on a 100 degree day. I've never beat on the tranny either so I know I could easily take it up to 250 with a couple of autoxes 5 minutes apart.
  10. Virtually every coupe version of the sedan has been heavier. Most of the Impreza coupes weigh about 150lbs more than the sedans do (almost as much as the wagon does) probably due to the added structure needed when taking a design and converting it to another application.
  11. I agree with Nipper. Sure you might get 1-2hp by running a less restrictive filter but for longevity it definately isn't worth it. On a side note I've run my XT6 without a filter vs with on autoxing and have had a better time every single time when there was a filter on. (the engine is toasting slowly so I'm not real concerned about airborne diseases getting past!!!
  12. I know on the SVX the idiot light comes on at 275 degrees. WELL Beyond what any atf can handle even for a brief period of time. Ideally you shouldn't go above 200 degrees, when I go over 208 I change my fluid when I get home but I'm also cheap when it comes to replacing a tranny. Mobil 1 ATF has the highest flash and fire points at 211 degrees for flash (meaning that is the point in which it starts to break down). Some people run Redline and Purple but I couldn't find any independent verifications of their claims so I don't trust it until I do. Ideally it should go in the pan as you'll get the most accurate reading from there. From replacing trannies on our race car we've come across what seems like could be used for a hole already. It seems impreza trannys have a red cap on the bottom, I think this is where the stamp pushed through to insert the atf dipstick. Haven't come across them on other subie pans but I know this occurs when making most American engines (pushes the metal out rather than leaving it in the pan). I got my digital gauge and sender from Summit, it is made by a company called Norsduq or something weird like that. No issues in the 4 years I've had it on.
  13. No but quite a few parts are (all the parts that have been bad on our Legacy except the tranny). The Leg OB and B9 are still made in Indiana.
  14. The Matrix isn't a bad car at all and could be comparable to an outback sport (at least it was designed in the past decade). Personally, if everything else is equal after test driving I'd go for a slightly used Vibe awd. You'll get Pontiac style depriciation, the same car as a Toy minus the parts headache and then you'll have more money left over for your daughter's car. The Impreza line should be just fine for her. I'm a fan of the older Imprezas as I rolled one and hit an embankment at 65 and only broke my ankle (although pretty bad). The engine was about 2 feet off center but all the glass was there and every door still opened. A 96 or 97 Impreza 2.2 shouldn't set ya back too far. Don't get me wrong, I love my Legacy GT but not nearly as much as my older subies. The quality seems to be living up to the Made in Mexico parts that are on it.
  15. Remember, I drove my Brat up Minuteman at Ski Roundtop after a few beerzez. How much different can dirt be??
  16. And still loose!!! Remember, we're lighter, handle better, have more hp, more torque and will be running Hoosier dirt tires!!!
  17. 1. If you are getting a replacement tranny make sure it is NEW NOT REBUILT! (you might get one with 100k on the internals of the front dif which aren't touched in a rebuild)!!! 2. Read number 1 again!!!
  18. Prepare for a loss!!! Hocrest will sign up. He's just slow.
  19. Even the calipers???? As for returning to the dealer. The car came directly from MAA so the dealer just basically signed the paperwork to buy it.
  20. Regardless of how many people own it? I know that wear items aren't covered that entire time and am assuming the rotors would fall into that catagory.
  21. Our race car sponsor recently bought a 2003 Legacy L with 29k on the odo. Of course it is used. It has an issue in the rear (we think the caliper is sticking or possibly a bad axle) but know the rotors are slightly out of round. Having never had a used subie with factory warranty we're trying to figure out what to do. What is covered with a second owner factory warranty? Just trying to save him the most money. I'm assuming the rotors won't be under and he should pull them and have them machined himself but the other stuff should be right? Thanks for the expertise on this!!!
  22. Cough... 4wd Mod. Didn't ya read my post? That is unless you put your interior back in it!
