I actually just tried to talk a friend into driving the Vibe (said he liked the Matrix) when he was looking for a new Subie. Also sent him in the direction of the Snob 9-2. Of course he didn't listen and wouldn't even look at 'em but for the price. I'd get the Vibe! $18.5k for a $27k vehicle. Same thing for the Snob. Instead, he opted for the 20k legacy that stickered at 23.9k. Test drive the Vibe (so long as you'll keep it until the depriciation doesn't matter)!

A friend from the SVX board's brother has a 6 in Md (he lives about 30 miles south of OC). Loves the car but can't find anybody to work on it and of course he's having an overheating issue. Overheats immediately on start up and is loosing coolant. Runs just fine though Definately not a car guy otherwise I'd walk him through some checks. Just wants to take it to a mechanic and be done with it but won't spend dealer money for it.

Personally, I'd think Legacy ones would fit fine. I just put some WRX springs on an SVX and they fit! I would suspect they'd be a little stiffer too. Do a google search and see what you can come up with for stifness of the different models and years. They are very close together. I think the stiffest stock ones sans Sti are actually the 98-2001 RS springs which edged out WRX springs.

Have plexiglass in our race car sunroof. I think you'd probably have issues with height if you did it. When I removed the assembly the whole thing is maybe an inch think. Glass would be not so good in that area, plus if I remember correcly don't they open out and the legacy goes into the roof? Glass going out like that would definately not be very safe.

Has the fluid been changed? If you're hard on 'em and they are overheating the water evap can smell quite nasty but I'm actually thinking you may have a stuck caliper holding a bit which would warm things up. If you have fluid leaking onto something and cooking you'd know it as you're levels would drop pretty good quickly and it would be very spongy more than likely.

benebob replied to benebob's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Well as best I can tell there really isn't a way to get it torn down. There is no way to really crack the sucker. Its had pb in it for about 4 weeks now to no avail. -

Yeah, have been to the US sites. Have yet to find anything out about the 4 stroke and no one seems to have one listed in the registry. Took the engine and tranny out today. Still seized beyond belief. Seems to only be missing a few things though which is good. Have been looking at EX27 Robin engines though if I can't come up with a good way to unseize her. -
I have one I can send ya if ya want but I too got it at advance for like $2 or something like that. If you want it send me a pm. I no longer have the Brat so it isn't much use to me.

GET IT! Subie flat 6s are the bomb. They should do away with the turbo 4 idea all together and build 6s. The sound sooo much better and heck put a turbo on 'em. Having an XT6 and a couple SVXs (which are probably 2 of the harder subies to work on for space) you just wanna make sure you get a FSM to tell ya how to do stuff as you don't have the room for error. As for the 3.0, from everything I understand it has the same with as the 2.5 just a little longer but only like a inch or so. You won't regret it when you're accelerating to pass WRXs at highway speed. To each his own though like I said I'm a little biased. I like that torque to be there all the time not just when the rpms are above where any sane person would drive a chevy 350.

Thanks for the meet!!! I had a wonderful time, minus spending 3/4ths of it chasing down hopefully our final leak! Had I know it was gonna involve 3% of the total US population of surviving Legacy Turbos I would've stolen my moms 92 with 7Xk on the odo to show off. Hope everybody has/had a safe trip home.

Hocrest, Leakingoil (provided she can get up) and I are meeting at the McDonalds on North Front Street in Harrisburg at 8:30am Sat. If anybody is interested in meeting call me at 717-203-4573. It is the first exit off of 322 after the 81/322 split. If going north you'd make a left and go about 1/2 mile to the golden arches.

The longer you avoid going over 4k the better in theory for the engine. Ideally, if you go for 300k without going over 4k you'll have a gloriously new engine compared to most others. My dealer recommended synthetic only after 10k on the car. Mobil 1 is the best independent lab verified stuff on the market plus it is fairly available and not overly expensive. Sure redline and others may be good but where's the data to back it up from someone other than their pr department. Use what Subaru says to use 5w 30 I'm guessing.

Subiesport Magazine: Year One!
benebob replied to ricochet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Some people just can't read! Try to get through things too fast! I have heard of friends though who haven't gotten issues etc so it isn't out of the question. I'm sure it is something you've ben working to correct. Good luck with SOA. Seems they want nothing to do with anything that doesn't have to do with their dealers and selling cars. -

It hasn't been out a year. First issue was in Oct of last year if I remember correctly, It has just been a year since the project got off the ground! -
Did you get a letter from Subaru directly saying this?- of course you didn't! The stuff isn't the best thing to be putting in there but or course a dealers are in business to make money, nothing else so they'll recommend it if they get $$$ for it. Subaru wants it in there because some bean counter said it'll save X hg failures under warranty and only cost us X in clogged cooling systems.
-
My 2 cents is DON'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALER!!! What they'll do is put in a "special" additive (Basically Prestone Stop Leak) that is there to fill any tiny holes in the system. This crap works but it also gunks up the tiny little coolant lines in the system eventually causing issues but not until after the warranty is up in most cases.

So what class are you gonna put our SVX in? Of course it doesn't fit in any catagory there to say the least. It'll still be there, I plan on making Dave run as I'm not a fan of straight line driving. I'm sure it'll have some issues as I'm not about to burn up our Kumho's on the take off so a mixed bag of crappy street tires and FWD are not gonna start real good.

I don't think I could stomach a honda engine in it. The thing about the rabbit is the auto tranny set up. If I do have to put something non original in it it would be a Robin engine hopefully.
