Thanks for the no help. I know someone out there has a better answer then get it from the dealer. My 17 month old could've told me that one. Obviously I'd prefer not to deal with my local dealer or have something shipped that will cost as much to ship as to buy.

They screwed me long ago and with shipping across the country I'd pay $35 for something that is worth well $10.

175 or 18\13 tires for subaru loyale?
benebob replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Honestly I didn't like anything more than 175s until I went to the 195s I had. The 185s all tend to be crappy (i.e. cheap) tires for the most part -
No I live in Lancaster County where my dealer insists on a Vin (which I don't have) and then charges 50% over list.

Okay so I'm going forward with the XT turbo 2wd 5 speed into my XT6. Got everything on the way aside from a starter and clutch cable. Starter is just a M/T starter for any of the ea-82s right? In fact I can reuse my just remaned one with a M/T front right? As for the clutch cable this is a little more confusing. Tranny is out of an 86 XT 2wd turbo. I can't seem to find consistant listings for cables. Some manufactures lump all the non-turbos and turbos together, others split 'em apart etc. Just trying to get the cheapest one I can at the moment!

In general shorter sidewall will be better handling on the street so the 175s would be you're better bet. Can go with 185s or 195s with a shorter sidewall as well. For road use and price you can't beat the Sumitomos. I have Srixons on my XT6 and after 15k still love em. Not the best in snow or rain but overall a great tire for the price. I think I paid $55 a piece installed for 205/50r14s -
Looking for a cheap 360 sedan
benebob replied to benebob's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Please do! That is nice and close. I'd hate to tear up a restorable one but a decent body and everything else shot that's doable. -
Hocrest and I are looking for a cheap 360 sedan with a somewhat solid body, no drivetrain, glass interior or even possibly suspension for a race project. Parts cars are definately welcome as you'll get most of everything back. Not looking to spend more than $500 on the shell including pick-up or delivery. Title is also not necessary. East coast definatley preferred. Please keep your eyes and ears open!

Yes, there's a beauty in a 97 Impreza Outback with 118k on the odo, there for a nasty wreck so you know she's good. Engine bay is just fine. I think it was a rollover or side hit. Its in the second foreign square from the office and is in the very last row maybe 8 cars down from the first foreign square. I doubt it'll be there if you wait too long (engine week was last so I'd check out www.wegotused.com and see when their next engine special is and then decide if its worth waiting for the $65 engine.

Honestly, my next car won't be a subaru since they only sell overpriced, poorly constructed, horribly backed cars so I guess I'm no longer a Subaru fan... then again, I'm not out of the norm of the typical 80s Subie fanatic. They're leaving Subaru in droves! Subaru had better hope their they can keep up with the ricer of the week crowd with their 15 year old platform.

Having driven a friend's Sion Xb with 104hp that thing can really move (considering). Subaru's biggest problem is they need to go to Jenny Craig. They've been quite portly since the EA-81 compared to similar vehicles. That's something that takes development money to keep a structure strong without the added weight.

EA82 PT4WD trans in an XT6?
benebob replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Gary read my posts about using a non-turbo xt 2wd 5 speed tranny in a XT6. In theory if you use 93-94 Impreza axles (have a 23 spline count inner and the same outer as a 6) you're golden. Haven't actually done it yet though. -
If you're putting a cooler in don't bother unless you put a gauge in too. Undercooled is just as bad as overheated. How far are you going? If it isn't that far and you're not going to be towing again in the near future I'd simply change my fluid after the move. Anything above 210 is very bad. The idiot light comes on at 280 or something insane like that. Your tranny is pretty much already gone at that point. Might just want to invest in a gauge and stop for a break if it gets above 200 but honestly on the highway you should be just fine. Its stop and go traffic that will heat it up quick.

I'd be leary about dropping a cinderblock or throwing in stone which I did quite often with my BRAT without incident. I definately agree that for the average HomeCrapot Owner it is the perfect vehicle. The body cladding has definately grown on me since it isn't in your face anymore. It is still sold at least for 07 but I doubt much longer as it is off the old platform.

I can send you to a website that will tell you the ski is purple if you'd like. Research doesn't involve typing in a google word search and calling that fact. A properly maintained SVX tranny or rear wheel bearing will last just as long as any other performance automatic or rear wheel bearing from another make. Too say that it is because of a 3.545 is just based on you're beliving that it is the best fix to replace the transmission with one with shorter gears as the people who advicate that though are the ones who are looking for faster 0-60 times or too poor to replace it with a properly rebuilt transmission with a properly installed temperture gauge so you can tell when you've fried your fluid. I'm very certain that my tranny will last another 100k at the very least and that is with very spirited driving habits. Oh and FYI most of the tranny issues have a big part to do with not rotating tires, poor alignments, non-matching tires etc. It takes a tranny that already runs warm and turns it into one that runs 10 degrees higher!

Did you ever consider it really isn't the car but rather the people driving 'em? The design if properly maintained functions very well for a performance car from the time period. More reliable than say 3 of the 4 vehicles it was ever compared with. The Mitsu 3000/Dodge twin, Corvette, RX7. Sure the wheel bearings can be an issue but when properly maintained according to the manufacture's instructions it really isn't more of an issue than any other subaru (hence the reason Hocrest asked about tires, etc.) As for the transmission. My 5 speed legacy gt tranny had issues at 1k so they must be crap huh? Changing tranny fluid does wonders for the life of a transmission. Its very similar a car to the Justy ECVT as it wasn't marketed, or sold right plus you need to consider the dealerships after only dealing with small lightweight, low performance cars for 20 years didn't know how to handle a heavy gt that was pushing the limits of the parts bin supply. As I said, until you own one, you really don't know as it is as much of a Subaru as that Justy I mentioned.

Oh how back seat SVXer seem to know these cars!:-\ My original tranny died at 98k (after running through maa where cars typically run for about 4 hours in stop and go traffic in a given day which will toast just about any tranny fluid) and those horrible wheel bearings lasted 145k but then again lets leave it up to the experts who don't own one of these cars nor do they know how they need to be cared.
