Dude, You'll get nowhere around here insulting Legacies... Old Impreza's are fun/cool cars. Do realize that the 1.8 equipped versions, even with the MT are pretty slow. This especially applies on the highways. They make fun around towners, but owing to how underpowered they are they are less than ideal commuters. They are pigs on gas. On the upside they've kind of bottomed out as far as deprication goes and are now starting to increase in value. Lots of people want them for swaps. P.S. by the sounds of things you might be happier in a CRX or maybe a sweet 'teg... hope it works out for ya.

93 legacy turbo strut assemblies into 93 impreza
Dangerdave replied to Dangerdave's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
No I thought the Legacy and Impreza chassis were different. The Impreza was developed as an "all new vehicle" for 1993. But if you say they work well enough... You dont find they sit any higher? The reason I'm asking about the useability of these struts is because I already have them. Thanks for the replies, Dave -
Hey, Just looking for an answer to this question. I've searched and found one person warning that it may sit high. Is this true? If so could I swap springs to return it to regular ride height? Thanks for any advice Dave

Sorry I didn't get back to this post sooner, I got really busy with school. Thank-you for the information on resealing the pump. I'm going to try to get to it as soon as classes end next week. I dont have the spring anymore but it was a one inch piece of exactly what you'd see inside an oil seal. I also found the two broken halves of that washer. Had an inside diameter of about an inch, inch and a quarter outside. I looked at the oil pump diagram and did not see either. Would a blown seal cause the engine to lose pressure almost completely? I'm really not sure. It's tough to speculate, but I wonder if those pieces are even related to the low oil pressure problem? Might just be spare players in the "high-mileage" game. haha. Thanks again for all the responses, I'll keep ya posted. Dave

Hey, Figured it was time to turn to the gurus, I'm stumped. As my title states I have a 93 AWD Impreza 1.8 280,000 kms, with low to no oil pressure. Did a mechanical test read 5 psi at idle 15-20 at 3000 rpm. Pulled the oil pan and found the remnants of a spring you would find inside of an oil seal and a broken, very thin metal washer. I was going through the manual and can't find these pieces as part of the oil pump or pressure check valve, the oil was otherwise very clean. If the spring I found was from an oil seal the car would have to be bleeding oil to lead to pressure that low right? It only has the typical high-mileage weeps. Best guess at this point is that the parts are unrelated to my low oil pressure problem. I've read some guys with GL's having similiar problems, but I haven't been able to dig any of those posts up. Just looking for other possibilities to investigate. Thanks for any advice, Dave

You will get owned at the dealer for a new seat. Expect to pay in the neighbourhood of $1500-$1600. Keep in mind any aftermarket seat will be performance oriented and therefore stiff and rigid. WRX seats are certainly milder but they are very uncomfortable for any longer than about an hour. I've been through it dude, RS seats are they way to go. Fit wise almost anything will bolt right up, just keep in mind that different seats sit higher/lower. Check for local Subaru forums. You may be able to hook-up with someone selling a set. I'm in Toronto and there are like three sets for sale on the Toronto boards. Dave

I'm a loyal Subaru guy but have you driven a new Civic Si? They are roughly the same price as a 2.5i impreza and waaay quicker. Unless you really want the AWD then I'd seriously consider the Si. Used WRX's are easily/cheaply had as well. This is going a little wayward but 1 or 2 year old lexus' IS300's have gotten really inexpensive and they are one of the nicest cars I have ever driven. Just a thought. Good luck!

Keep in mind almost any seat from legacy or impreza from 1990(leggy) 1993 (Impreza) right up to now will fit with no modification. If she is finding the current seats a little harsh she'll likely feel the same way about WRX seats. I'd really recommend a set of Impreza RS seats(1998-2002). There are lots of them around and they'd certainly be in your budget. I got mine for 150 cdn. Lots of the Forester seats have adjustable lumbars as well, but they would likely sit too high.

I just had a second question regarding these struts. One of my struts in blown so I'm replacing them all. Does anyone know if changing these would affect ride height/quality? I'm assuming because it's a much heavier car and due to it being more performance oriented it would be a firmer ride? I've only ever ridden in one beat up old leggy turbo so it's probably a poor example. Thanks for any input, Dave

Hey, My Dad recently bought a 94 white legacy turbo. The car has 80,000 km's on the clock and is one of the nicest and cleanest looking old subarus I've ever seen. The car had been written of due a fire that originated in the turbo. The fire melted anything plastic in the engine bay, and was bad enough that it made its way through the glove box and melted alot of wiring under the dash. This car was intended as a spares car for my sisters 93 rotten turbo legacy. Despite this car being written off it came with an ownership so we're looking into restoring it. Would a fire that wasn't hot enough to warp the hood or fenders be bad enough to damage/warp the aluminum heads? What should I check for besides that? I'll post some pictures in the next couple of days

Ive got a 93 impreza L wagon. I bought with a high km 1.8 in it. It runs well enough, but is waaay underpowered and useless on the highway. I found a guy selling a 2.5 over my local forum. Its the obd II out of a 2000 RS so no head gasket issues. It has 200,000 kms on it, but he assures me it runs well. He wants 400 cdn. THis price includes harness, ecu, water pump, cross member and any thing else not needed for a ej 20 swap. The timing belt will also need replacing. Sound alright, or should I keep looking? Any advice or caveats would be cool Thanks, Dave

Hey, I've done a few searches and haven't gotten anywhere. Does anyone know if rear disc brakes from a two- wheel drive 91 legacy will swap on to my 93 impreza L all- wheel drive. I'm hoping to get rid of my rear drums. A friend is scrapping the legacy and said i could take what i needed. Thanks for any input. Dave

Quick question, The front ball-joints on my 93 impreza probably need to be replaced. They aren't making any noise yet but the grease bladders feel empty. I've heard that there is a way of refilling these as long as the bladders aren't broken. Or if I have to change them are their any aftermarket replacments that have grease fittings? Thanks Dave

yeah I'm in a similiar situation right now. I bought this car last summer for 500 bucks. I've since done all the body work and had it painted. It runs well now but its pushing 300,000 km. I'm hoping to keep this car for a while, so I'm going to do something with it this summer. I'm just trying to decide if I should do something with my motor or start looking for a 2.2 to rebuild. As far as what to do the 2.2 is supposed to be an relatively easy swap granted you have some wiring experience. A two liter swap would also entail upgrading your brakes, suspension, driveline etc. I've been considering putting my existing 1.8L heads on a 2.2 block. This set-up offers a better compression ratio and more power. (so I'm told) This also allows you to use the stock exhaust. Dave

I find myself constantly overfilling as I can't get a consistant oil level reading. This seems to be true for both Subarus I've owned (90 legacy fwd, and current Impreza 1.8L). I always do it on a level surface, cold engine temp etc, and I always seem to get wildly different readings. Anyone else had this problem?
