  1. i was hoping i could get information on how to change the alternator and a/c belts on my 96obw with the 2.2L. i am a shade tree mechanic at best but want to do the work myself. i have the bolts soaking with pb blaster and hope to do the job after dinner. please help if possible. rox
  2. I own a 1996 OBW with a 2.2L. I had a clutch installed this spring with all the usual extras. My question is, does an adjustment need to be made to the system after a period of time/miles? It seems that the system feels spongy lately. I mean it does not have the power to climb hills from a stop as well and seems to labor more recently. Please advise as I do only minor repair on my own and rely on forums such as this to guide and make decisions. Thanks in advance.
  3. could someone tell me if you can lubricate the sliders on front brakes for a 1996 OBW? did a brake job and the sliders were very tight.
  4. Hello group. could someone explain the simple way to replace an oil pan gasket on my 1996 2.2 OBW? seems like alot of stuff is in the way of a simple R&R. thanks rox
  5. thanks. i did get under the car tonight. it would not squeak with me turning all four tires by hand as well as running the motor and placing the tranny in first gear. quiet as can be actually. squeaking did start as soon as i began driving. a side note, i found my front drivers side cv boot torn as clean as a whistle. i did not see this two weeks back when my car was on the lift. it is still slinging grease so i assume it is a recent failure. could this have anything to do with what is going on? nipper, thanks for the help and extra luck but dont give it all my way. you should hold on to a little for yourself!! thanks for making this forum work for me. bob
  6. thanks for the ideas and suggestions. it is my hope this will work out. life seems to throw curve balls at you when you least expect them. my fingers and toes will be crossed on this one as i start a new job this coming week after surgery and the inability to continue in my current job of twelve years. maybe this will be the springboard towards better things to come. again, thanks to you folks for the help.
  7. my local dealer says no carrier bearing available for my car. need to buy complete driveshaft for $700 plus if is in fact the carrier bearing. ouch!! does anyone have used part for sale poss.? i know i am jumping the gun but need to look ahead to see my options. thanks to anyone for help/suggestions.
  8. my plan is to get it on a lift tomorrow. any suggestions as to what to look for before going to the shop? i sure hope i dont need to fight a hard battle to get this right!!
  9. the noise appears to go away a little as you depress the clutch as my memory goes. it appears more so after driven for a little while. it sounds like rubber squeaking on the driveshaft.
  10. i recently had a clutch kit installed in my 96 OBW. new tailshaft seal replaced after rear driveshaft was put back in. garage said it is common for them to leak. they blamed me for over filling case but i did not touch the car, i brought it to them for the repair!! now i have a squeak that is evident at slow speeds and it increases/decreases as the car speeds or slows. does anyone have any ideas as to what this is? thnks for any help.
  11. hello, this is my first time posting on this site. i have and continue to post on a yamaha site i belong to. i own a 1996 outback(legacy) with a 2.2L motor. i am interested in timing belt replacement. i do minor work myself and was hoping for honest opinions as to the chances for a backyard repair guy to do the replacement. i also noticed the lifter knock and wonder what people think about that problem on that motor. thanks in advanvce for anything that may come from this posting. rox
