WCSS 17 pictures post hear
K9WAGON replied to angerthis's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
If anybody wants to post links to videos or photos as well I would also be interested since my phone memory was unfortunately full and I didn't get a bunch of pictures. I have many friends who didnt show because of power outages and they want mud pit movies and show photos. Particularly if anyone has any photos or video that helps display the overall size of the show. -
I would be interested in making the run but I don't know where in washington it is nor how severe the trail is going to be. I have the little hatch brat if you saw it at the west coast Subaru show it doesn't have very much ground clearance and I also have an 84 turbo brat with a 4 inch lift and super swampers but there's no engine in it right now and it's a matter of finances and time whether or not I'll have that ready in time it is a possibility but I don't know . I would however be interested in perhaps riding along with someone if I am unable to bring my own ride. Matt

Who is going to WCSS17?
K9WAGON replied to MR_Loyale's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I went . I was blown away at WCSS17 LOL . Had a total blast . took my 81 brat (The HatchBrat) and my 86 3 door turbo coupe. Wow what a wild show ! There was even a rollover (no one injured) Too bad i came out of my shell only towards the end of the show. I can be a bit of a hermit sometimes . Detached my exhaust on the second pass through the mud drag pit. Now I can redesign it better! It was a windy but epic show. Whens the next wheeling run ?I am game! Matt. -
i wish, but no it turns over fine and sounds like its getting great compression on all 6, I'm not even sure if the injectors are firing. the fuel pump relay isn't working, I've tried 4 others and still the same. When I hook a volt meter to the blue wire on the FP relay(supposed to be switched 12v with the key) it has no voltage at all. if i power it with 12 volts the fuel pump kicks on. the yellow wire thats connected to the relay is getting 12 volts. so is the black, and so is the green.
-
i measured the ohms from the positive and neg of the fuel pump while it was disconnected and its reading 1.2 on the 200 scale and the pos and neg ohms of the cars wires is 150 volts is very low like .3 edit: when i unplug the fuel pump, and read the volts coming from the cars wires, its 6 volts. is the pump bad?
-
hello everyone, just got an 94 svx, and if i turn the key on and the fuel pump is connected, the orange/brown "RELAY 2M" buzzes and the fuel pump never runs. also the tach sits at 2k rpm. if i disconnect the relay, the tach drops. if i disconnect the fuel pump wire, the relay doesn't buzz and the tach sits at 0. i pulled the pump and connected it to a battery and it ran dry fine. after that i connected the pump back to the cars wiring and relay buzzes, ect. pump doesn't run, even dry. HELP!

Has anyone elces digi dash just start working again? nothing changed, it just started working.:headbang: so.. maybee the analog swap will be put off till it breaks again
-
:banana:Awesome.
-
Unfortunately not.. ive read it many a times in the last few days.
-
well, probably going to have to swap, my digi dash is only about 30% working (speedo and trip computer) so ill swap it to analog. i have the 2 round clips and an analog dash to swap in, plus also the fuel sender unit from the analog car. I know about the search feature and i've spent the last 2 days going threw every term of "digital dash" with no luck. I need the pinouts of the 2 round clips of the 1982 analog dash and preferably one of the digi dash's 3 clips. if all the info is provided, ill make a writeup of how to do it, so there wont be any more of these questions over and over.

EA81T non water cooled turbo to water cooled

EA81T non water cooled turbo to water cooled
K9WAGON replied to K9WAGON's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think so? I'm only basing this off a turbo brat's turbo I had worked on. The ea81's downpipe is slightly different and the ea82 turbo looked a tad bigger.. I'm guessing the other turbo I have would be the same. The turbo seems to get fed water from under the t-stat, where the CTS goes. Returning it to the other side of the t-stat would work untill the t-stast opened up, then who knows what would happen. nice headers man! Unfortunately, spinning the turbo by hand it gets a bit of resistance before it makes a full revolution. Think its savable? I'm almost certain the PO shut it off when it was super hot. So lets say I feed the turbo from under the t-stat, from the turbo goes into the heater core, and the heater core feed line goes into the head. and the heater returns to the stock location. or can I simplify it even further by adding a T somewhere without having to ever feed hot coolant to the head? Or should I give up on the whole "Improving Subaru's design" and route it all stock? Thanks for all the responses! -
My non water cooled turbo is more then likely kaput and I'm sure I will have to change it. Now the question is, what would be the best way to route the water lines? I have the OEM Subaru retro fit kit (hose fitting for the intake manifold and the CTS+wire) but I do not have one for the head, and I would rather dump the hot turbo water somewhere better. Maybe the heater core? And a followup, would putting an ea82 turbo on be a good upgrade? if not I can put a water cooled ea81 turbo on. (I'm aware the downpipe is slightly different but that's not a problem)

Fastest non-ej'd brat ? Maybe. Mwuhahaha!

I gotta say I do miss the low end torque of the previous ea81t. But I am loving the pull past redline of the spider'd ea82t I have plans for the old motor eventually. That thing was a tractor! -

I have not had access to an sjr kit yet to have a look at the EJ flywheel idea. But If someone wants to provide me one to measure and test fit I would be glad to take a crack at it . Somwhere I read that a wrx clutch disk will work on the ea82 5 speed. I have not verified this. -

Heh I am betting that is what happened to my Alaskan RX. Never tore into the motor after the problem but it was a 60,000 mile block that I regasketed with Ishino hgs and the copper spray that was running great .... until it didn't. Compression dropped in # 3 (imagine that) and I parked it .. its still sitting up in Fairbanks. To be fair to the engine, I was flogging it at the time running 12psi with no IC @ - 25 deg F and running an experimental fuel mix with acetone in it. Yes the acetone mix does seem to work , even if only in a small way. I need more testing to absolutely confirm it though. Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket forged pistons ? Or ea81T pistons ? Has anyone tried ceramic coating the crowns yet ? Does anyone have a set of ea81T pistons to directly compare to the ea82T pistons? Specifically I was told the ea81T pistons are lighter and may have the top ring land moved down a bit further from the crown.. -
So after a long lapse in working on it, work has resumed on my spider'd AWIC'd ea82T. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23539 This may not seem like news nowadays , but I built this engine in mid 04, I believe it to be one of the first US ones. It was put into storage whilst I had some Alaskan adventures and now that I am back in the lower 48 , it has found a new home in my turbo BRAT. I have no idea what I am making for power, but its plenty adequate to rocket the brat along quite nicely . Traction is a big issue in front wheel drive and in the wet in 4wd with the lsd , holy sideways batman Anyone else got a quick ea82T? I have THE solution for head gaskets . Copper wire inserted into a groove machined around the cylinder bore that sticks up about 12 to 15 thousandths above the deck, Also known as O-ringing. I have aquired a nice heavy duty metal mill and have a small shop and am now taking requests. I intend to produce custom subaru goodies. Ej adapted flywheels, custom billet lift kits, porting, the works. Let me know what Ideas you all have and I will see what I can do . I am in it for the fun not to get rich . Bear in mind this may mean a slow production rate at times. Based in the SF bay area . Brat pics soon as I get them uploaded, I have to create an account somewhere.

So...Am I the first to have a Frankenmotor in his Brat?
K9WAGON replied to renob123's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
One of the things I have found to help get more traction up front is to setup the front end for about 1/8th inch of toe OUT. Furthermore if you can move the struts inward towards the engine bay any amount at all, and re-drill the mounts that seems to help too. A last ditch resort would be to do all of the above and add about an inch thick spacer under the engine crossmember to drop the crossmember help change the camber angles further. You want to try to get the front control arms to be flat when viewed from the front of the car. I have made some ea 81s that would handle insanely well, considering I lived in a twisty canyon for most of my life I definetly need to meetup and check this thing out ! Sounds like my kind of animal. My turbo brat has more than met its match by the sounds of it Matt in Rainier Or. -
No compression right front cyl/120 psi right rear

Make sure the little holes on the cam sprockets are arranged with one pointing straight up and one pointing straight down . I have seen this problem arise when both holes were pointing in the same direction. There should be some little notches at the top and bottom on the cam belt back covers . The holes in the pulleys should line up with them when sighted from directly overhead. -

I was out in the woods getting firewood with my trusty brat, when i became rather stuck. I managed to strip out reverse gear while trying to rock myself free. Now I need another 4 speed . I am located near longview washington. Like many others out there my financial situation is pretty fubar'd. Does anyone have parts they can help out with ? I am a good subie mech and I'll trade work. I might be able to borrow some cash if necessary.http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/perplexed.gif Thanks for looking . Matt in Longview WA.
