Buy it, insure it, and put the roadside assistance portion of the insurance on it. If it breaks down on the way back, have it towed to your house on the insurance company's dime, then cancel the roadside insurance once you get it home.

I, for one, don't think that the second part of your post is necessary. Despite that I ama relative newcomer to the board, it has been quite easy to ascertain who is trustworthy and who isn't. It's pretty much common knowledge. I don't see much reason to slur someone's reputation, especially if things are out of that person's control. If someone rips a board member off, word will get around quickly enough (a discrete way would be via PM's) without having to worry about litigation for libel or defamation of character against the board itself as the vehicle for such actions. Ups and Fed ex both deliver here, but you might check out Northern Air Cargo and send them air freight. It's probably cheaper. Ed Rach just sent me 4 rims, center hubs, and lug nuts for $56.00. I would be suprised if UPS or Fed Ex can match that.

You may also want to check with Shawn W. He might be back in the business of making them. He was waiting on a piece o machinery (tube bender, perhaps) so he could get going again. I don't know if he's back in business, but it's worth a shot.

Just realize that's his baggage to carry, not yours. If the guy wants to spend a bunch of cash needlessly, let him. You can't control what he says, so blow him off.

It could aslo be good as roofing material for sheds or greenhouses - let in light, keep out weather.

If it's 1/4" thick and virtually unbreakable, it could be used as floorboards in a boat. Paint over it with a textured paint or scuff it up with a sander to make it non-skid. It won't rot like marine plywood.

Not too difficult (everything is easy when you know it). Not to be a smart alec, but if you aren't experienced with glass installation, spend the extra $50.00 and have it done professionally. The cost of the glass itself is worth it, not to mention the chance of installing one that will leak on you. The door glass is also easy, but you could beat your knockles to death if you haven't spent much time inside a door panel. Be careful not to overtighten things and to roll the window up and down several times to ensure that the glass is exactly where it is supposed to be before sealing things up. Good luck.

Keep me posted as to how the axles hold up to the increased demands of larger tires. I want to lift mine next summer, but will limit myself to 14" rims and street tires. My brat is too nice (currently) to thrash off road with. After a few Alaskan winters, I can convert it to a mud buggy.

Did you buy an Ozified kit? 3", 4" 6" ? What kind and how easy was the install?

How thick is this stuff? Is it breakable like plexiglass or unbreakable like Lexan?

That's a sweet looking Gen 1. I'd bet Moosens would be interested in that one. It's kind of in his neighborhood.

I haven't had to mess with my ignition switch (yet), but I used to work with a glass company that had a locksmith department in it. When they had to rekey a car, they had to take the ignition switch out and take it apart. Maybe they might have another ig switch or at least they may be able to give you instructions on what you can do in the meantime. Be prepared to show them proof of ownership ofthe vehicle or they will just shine you on ( for obvious reasons). Good luck.

Just put about 1500 into the wife's car - 160k on it. Timing belt, oil pump, water pump, alternator, brakes. It's good for another 160k. Look at the brakes for pulsation = warped rotors. Generally good cars, though. By now most American made would have given up the ghost.

Call the cops or fish and game and they will come out and kill it and the meat will be salvaged by someone on the salvage list. You may even be able to clainm the rack. By the way, was it a legal moose - spike, fork 50"+, or three brow tines? I assume the accident happened somewhere in the Eagle River area so it wouldn't be legal to harvest it as in a hunt. In fact, you may want to report it to prevent some claim of wanton waste.

Battle Wagon, very sorry to hear of Ru 2's untimely demise. The moose catastrophe is all too common in AK. But, it's just a matter of time if one spends enough time on the road up here. I once had a moose do a tap dance on the hood of my 78 brat in Talkeetna. Hope you find another ru to take its place. I say this as I sit down to lunch - moose stew. Also sorry you don't get to keep the moose that hit you. It would have been tasty - almost like when Stephen King bought the car that hit him and then had it crushed into a block.
