  1. John should be on his way to AZ to pick up an SVX he bought there. See his post on the SVX.net board.
  2. Kelly, the Haul Road is pretty desolate and the only traffic is hunters and semi drivers. Pretty unforgiving in the event of a breakdown. Little to no services and deadly cold in the winter. Premixed anti-freeze, a plug kit and a small compressor, a can of fix-a-flat, a good sleeping bag... are necessities. Also, a good thermos for high test coffee (or a whisperlite and an espresso maker) is a help.
  3. I'll admit that I didn't read every post in this thread (time constraints), and I'd like to know if you have a kit (3") for an 89 XT6 that would require minimal modifications. Current cost would be appreciated (shipping to AK, slow boat - not in a big hurry) also.
  4. You could do massive offroading of every nature (mud bogging, hill climbs, and over 150 miles of unmaintained trails) at Eureka along the way.
  5. People do it all of the time. Just be sure you have all of your ducks in a row first. It can be rather unforgiving if you're unprepared. Also, you may want to become a member of SKA (Subaru Klub of Alaska) in case you break down. We have people around the state who will lend a hand if they know you're stuck of down.
  6. 92 Legacy - paid $3800 3 years ago 89 xt6 - paid $2500 4 months ago 83 Brat - paid $2700 2 years ago All run great, limited repairs, average less than $500 a year, with depreciation, that comes out way less than the average car payment. I buy used; it's cheaper in the long run. If I spend 3 grand on a vehicle and it lasts 3 years, that's a grand a year, about 3 car payments on a new ride.
  7. Correction: the place I suggested is called the Mooses Tooth. It's on old Seward by the Sunrise Restaurant.
  8. I had several people at the local dealership ask about how to get a USMB "Our world IS flat" shirt. I may have to buy a few extras just to grease some wheels. And, not only is John a great silkscreen printer, he (claims to be) is an expert fisherman, too. He's also quite generous.
  9. No,I don't. What time do you want to meet at the Beartooth? (You are talking about Beartooth pizza and brewpub on the Old Seward Highway, not the Beartooth theater, right?)
  10. While you're at it, you might as well put in a 5spd d/r.
  11. Sorry to hear you didn't get your Mudrat stuff yet.
  12. Sorry to hear you didn't get your Mudrat stuff yet.
  13. Welcome to the board. Sounds like a cv joint problem. If you're not mechanically inclined, or you need an exact diagnosis, see Richie at SIRS ir Portland - excellent, honest guy and a great mechanic, fair deals and excellent service. He won't try to rip you off like some other places (ball joints?).
  14. Welcome to the board. Sounds like rust issues all right. You might want to look for a different tank.
  15. Ed, good luck with the refurbish. If you can't find the parts you need at the local PAP, let me know. I have (most of) and extra Brat engine I can scab for you.
