  1. Cabelas has the ovrhead mount for pickups, but that depends on how much head room you have.
  2. Depending on how well it was maintained, you should be buying a good car. Timing belt changes, maybe brake rotors, maybe alternator(?), nothing else comes to mind. Good luck and welcome to the board.
  3. Six years for a battery is not a good rule of thumb. !996 Legacy= battery still chugging along fine, even in -30 temps. 1997 Ford F-150 = same thing. 1983 Brat = I don't know how old that battery is, but it's cranking like my a meth junkie in a trailer cooking up a new batch.
  4. AKBrando, sorry we missed you. Kelly (Snowman) and I were at La Mex (which was closed today) from about 5:30 until shortly after 6, and then went to a pay phone to try to call you. The phone number didn't pan out and when we came back to La Mex, there was a Kia minivan out front, so I honked my Brat horn as we pulled up. We parked and hustled around to the front, but you were pulling away, or at least we believed it to be you. Again, sorry it didn't work out. Maybe next time you're in town.
  5. Kelly, I can take you to a place north of Wasilla where they build airboats from ea 81 and 82's. They like the older subbie motors because of their durability but more for their weight. They smoke other boats with a 6 blade prop.
  6. I am not a very big guy, and I can pick up an ea81 by myself. An ea82 can't be that much more.
  7. Let us know if you find anything interesting.
  8. I'm in for Monday at 6 P.M. at La Mex downtown location. Maybe Cougar will show and we'll finally get to meet him.
  9. Are you working the strut magic here, too?
  10. And don't forget the often cited sweet Brat in Napoleon Dynamite.
  11. Subaru had a recall on the alternator in my wife's 96 Legacy. You might want to check it out - they are spendy.
  12. WHAT! No air conditioning in northern Wisconsin? What could you be thinking?
  13. First, welcome to the board. Second, thisshould be in the new generation section, not the old. Third, even though I am not familiar with the legitimate prices for the stated part, that seems inordinate, and e-bay or a local wrecking yard will certainly allow you to retain your vehicle. Don't despair. There are always better answers than some mechanics will offer.
  14. No, my experiences with Boston are more in alignment with, "Let's see how pissed we can get the tourist by running him in circles.":)
  15. Sweet deal. (Not to jack the thread, but how are you getting it from FBanks?)
  16. Personally, I prefer the way my brat looks with the 3/3 lift.
  17. Go buy a magnetic oil heater and use it. Just remember to remove it before you take off each time.
  18. Quick, as soon as thew water drops, go jack the wheels.
  19. You could also contact John = mudrat79 on the board here. He can build anything.
