  1. Welcome to the board. There are better buys out there. If you need help finding a good car in your neighborhood, give Richie rich a pm. He is a great and honest guy and he runs a Subaru shop in the Portland area, so he knows his stuff and hears about good deals all of the time.(I think his shop is something like Specialized Import Repair Service - SIRS).
  2. Wait a day or two and take a look at Snowman's wagon when he gets back in town. That'll give you some options. Welcome to the board. Interested in Subaru Klub of Alaska?
  3. The whine noise you describe is the bendix going out. Mr. Dew is correct in his appraisal of it being a bit early for this to happen. He is also correct in his choice of : used (from a j/y) then rebuilt. And certainly replacement is a di-it-yoursewlf job. Caution: disconnect the starter first, just in case someone wants to start it while you're working on it.
  4. What's up Doc? Welcome to the board. you've discovered problem solving at its best.
  5. Welcome to the board. How are things in good old Dubuque? (I grew up in Savanna, IL). Sounds like a loose wire. Good luck in the wire chase.
  6. You're talking about building a snorkel for your intake? If you're doing a lot of driving in deep water, probably a good idea. If not, there's really no need.
  7. Could it maybe be a WRX (since the w is directly above the s on the keyboard)? Welcome to the board.
  8. Looks like you also need a good skid plate. Nice job - simple design.
  9. Welcome to the bard. Now is the time to ask yourself, "What do you want to do with this car?" If you want street mods or 4wd set up, there are 2 different paths to follow. What are you looking at?
  10. Welcome to the board. Is the "she" your subaru?
  11. Ouch, both financiallyand emotionally (not to mention physically, I hope not).
  12. I believe Moshem is from a former "soviet block" country like Bulgaria, or somewhere over there. In our country, brand name of a gas drier is called Heet.
  13. You could very well have debris in the jets in the carburator. Try running the rpms up to 4k or 4.5k for a few seconds the next time it dies and see if that helps to clear it out. If not, you may need to disassemble the carb and clean it.
  14. Kelly, put me down for a couple of each. Thanks for all of the hard work.
  15. Wow! The learning curve for you is going to be high. Chains/ snow tires - get both. That way when you get stuck you can chain up and get out. Get a couple of 50# bags of sand for the back end, put it in 4wd and go like hell. Jam the brakes really hard at all stops and slide head first into whatever is in front of you. Whatever you do, don't take your foot off the pedal once you start sliding as you don't want to regain control or the ability to steer. If the back end starts to come around, don't steer into it; that will counter the slide. Instead steer away from it and floor it. That will spin you completely out of control. Don't pack a shovel either. You want to be as helpless as possible. Of course, don't follw any of the recommendations I have made as they are all hopelessly wrong. Good luck. (except about getting bith chains and snow tires, and the sand)
  16. Back it onto gravel when you do it, or onto the grass.
  17. Welcome to the board. You might do an advanced search to see if there are any people from TN. I know of one or two in MO, but I'm not sure about your home state.
  18. The subaru must be in employees' parking, and the black g-ride in the distance must be in upper management parking. I see the water is only up to midwheel on it.
