  1. You might just want to open a discussion with the dealer to find out what the order of operation is for changing brake fluid. They may have just siphoned out the fluid from the resevoir and put in new. I'd ask them first before disclosing your findings. (Oh, and take pictures of it right now.)
  2. I had a similar problem with my Brat. First, I checked the hoses from the tank to the jets to see if they became disconnected. Not the problem. Then I discovered that the electrical connection to the tank had come undone. Plugged it back in and I was in business again. Welcome to the board. You might want to PM Snowman to find about Subaru Klub of Alaska.
  3. That's a sweet looking car. Wish I had a pic of my first: a 79 Brat.
  4. Read the write up Samo did on the other thread about stereo hook up. The speakers on Brats have a common ground and if you didn't rewire them with the new install, you probably have a problem.
  5. Nice write-up Samo. Might want to save that one for the FAQ or the USRM.
  6. If I wasn't stuck with IM inspections, I'd have some serious carb and exhaust mods going.
  7. In my garage when the overhead door springs broke and I couldn't get out util it was repaired. Never been stuck anywhere else.
  8. Are all 4 tires a matched set? Same amount of mileage on all of them? Cheapest experiment, of course is switch them around. If you have differing tires, thatmay be the answer.
  9. What did you find worth buying, Torxxx?
  10. Welcome to the board. Looks like you've got a ton of good advice already. If you need more info, just ask. As you can see, there are a bunch of experts here just ready and willing to provide assistance.
  11. He was probably sick as he realized he'd spent about 18,000 more than you did for something that got smoked by a car that's 15 or more years old.
  12. Frankly, I prefer white.
  13. So Paul, what's the definition in your area for vintage - 25+ years? Even 1960's era models have to be inspected here.
  14. Pretty cool. What are you going to do with it?
  15. Block heaters are around $50, a tank heater (in line on the coolant system) is about $40, and a pan heater that you can silicone onto the pan underneath is about $35.
  16. I've taken out dozens, but none with the intent of attempting to get them out unbroken. I don't know what your time is worth, but it's cheaper for me to buy a new shield than spend the 4 or more hours to get one out in one piece and then clean it up enough to reinstall it without breaking.

It's an easy swap -bolt in.
  18. Congrats on your new purchase. Just be patient in the installation process and all should go well.
  19. Kind of depends on how long you plan to keep the car. Most owners change vehicles every 3 - 4 years. If you're looking at running the thing until it rots out from under you, then it might be a good buy. Otherwise, forget about it.
  20. Good to have you aboard. Try some Mystery Marvel Oil on the lifters.
  21. Any short in the electrical system could cause, especially a grounding problem, aninterruption of electrical flow to the plugs. Check the grounds.
  22. The easiest way is to get a set of 14" pugeout rims. But watch out for clearance problems. Do a search on lifts and look at the write up on tires for off-roading that Zap put together. Good stuff.
