That's right! I got an oil change for my wife's legacy with a factory oil filter for $10 in Soldotna. The guy who owns the shop originally started AAA Subaru in Anchorage, but there was a parting of the ways, so he kept the name and moved south. The shop in Anchorage (AAA-1 Subaru) is the one everyone loves to hate. This guy also has two 360's in front of his shop, a Brat with a plow on the front and a wrecker attachment in the bed, and a ton of old used up subies for parts. Seemed like a good guy - knew his stuff. I'll post pictures of the 360's later - one used to belong to Evil Kenivel.

Is that the same blue carpeting that Mick has been looking for?

Welcome to the board. There was a recent thread on who has lowered their cars. That might be a good starting point.

I'm not sure of the term used there, but is sounds similar to why mine failed here. There is a diaphram controlled unit, activated by a vacuum line that sits on the end of the air cleaner, When the engine is cold, it shuts the gate at the front of the air cleaner, forcing heated air from the exhaust manifold into the air cleaner. After the engine warms up, the sensor deactivates the vacuum and the gate opens, allowing cold air through the front of the air cleaner. If the diaphram on the top of the air cleaner won't hold the vacuum, if it has sprung a leak, your car will fair that test.

Leaks are one of the problems. Some people do a really poor (uneven) cut out and the method of application is to just put a bead of new urethane down. Uneven surfaces result in uneven pressure points = breakage. Additionally, the windshiels was designed to be part of the structural strength in a rollover from about 1985 and up. With less urethane to actually hold the shield in place, the rollover strength is decreased, as well as the possibility of holding an occupant in the vehicle in the event of a front-on collision.

Poke around as much as you want, and drop a few lines of wisdom or witticism from time to time. And welcome to the board.

Personally, I don't believe in the process. What's happening is that a high resin glue is injected into the void and cured. Some cracks/chips can be "fixed" - most can't. If insurance will cover a replacement, and if you have a reputable shop, go the full route. If not, drive it until it's unsafe and find a shop that will remove all of the original material (urethane) and start from scratch on the pinchweld. Do not settle for the close-cut method. Bad news.

You'll be fine. Besides, there are a ton of board members along the way willing to lend a hand if the unforseen happens. Breaking down 50 miles from home is just as bad as 400 miles from home. It's just an inconvenience. Everything can be fixed. Don't sweat the little things (but prepare for them) or every creak and clack will ruin your trip. Enjoy yourself on the trip.

New Problem with my Brat
northguy replied to 1979BratOwner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't want to sound naive, but have you cleaned the battery posts and the inside of the connectors to ensure good connections? Did the problem come on slowly, or did it suddenly stop working over night? -
Are you talking about a grill for use with the third eye (passing light)?

They look sweet, man. Nice job.
