Whos Got the Most Miles
NoahDL88 replied to Bobby_boucher's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Amortization (sp) basically if it costs 1 million to develop a part and 5 dollars to make it, that is a cost of 6 dollars for 1 million parts, if you make 2 million then it becomes 5.5 dollars. not quite just one dollar for the last car, but you get the idea. -
the "borrowing" of bolts fromt the PAP is a hotley debated issue, some things i don't mind taking, but i try to pay for most stuff, cause if they loose too much business then they go out of business. as for bolts, i don't think any of ours are torque to yeild so you should be ok, head and block bolts may be worth getting new though if your getting more boost or higher compression.

Only the SPFI disty has the hall effect sensor to get the fuel pump to pump, so a carby or mpfi won't work. so yes, you need to swap gears, I have the gear as i had planned on doing the swap myself, but never had the time/patience. iirc you need to redrill the hole, but i don't remember if it is to get the rotation right, or the depth. I'm pretty sure its for the depth, cause if its not perfect, it will chew up the gear all sorts of quick.

i got one of those at the dealership free about a month ago, been using it as a wallet ever since. the subaru credit card fits great inside it.

What is the demand of . . . .?!
NoahDL88 replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Why stop at 3.90, would it be possible to put in 4.11 and the real low range, 1.59? What exactly needs to be done to retain the AWD and get the 3.90 gearing? -
need your advice - coolant recovery tank loyale.
NoahDL88 replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The actual cooling system must be under pressure to function properly. as far as the overflow tank, why? if you have that much pressure in the bottle then you need a head gasket, not another hole. -
the EJ 5 speed will bolt up easiest to the engine, but the tranny cross member will need to be modified, as well as the inner cups for the front axles, you could run an old 5spd, but i'd worry about the power it could handle. you would need to get the adapter plate from mudrat if you did that though.

try the 2wd axles from Subaru, they are stronger, and have better quality control

I'm teh nerd, so i look at the subie like spock, he "died" in the second movie but wasn't really dead, cause his Vulcan soul lived on, so too shall your Subie's soul live on. or there's the organ donor approach, she must give her life so that others might live. either way, i'm sorry for your loss I shall wear black for a time fitting to mourn your loss.
-
at least for the sake of consistancy you could have said a 6 and 12 speed.
