Furthest Traveled to WCSS7 And Back?
NoahDL88 replied to Jibs's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'm 8 miles round trip farther than the guy from Chukau**** but as i didn't drive i'd be willing to cede the trophy to him. however next year, i'll have two cars, i hope. -
I'm gonna see about getting the pictures out this soon. if you've posted or pm'd in this thread you're on the list, arbitrary cut off is next tuesday, the 2nd, i'll take the weekend to burn the discs and should have them out by wednesday the 3rd. I've got about 700 hi res pictures that i'm gonna be putting onto CD's or DVD's if its possible. it'll probably take me about 1-2 weeks to string the panoramic pictures together and organize the pictures into nice folders. depending on how many cd's it will take to get them all on i'm thinking 10 bucks should cover it. the plan is to have the 10 dollars go to the USMB, cause my cost isn't that much, maybe 2 bucks plus my time. At this point I just want a PM with "WCSS7 pictures" in the subject line so i know what its for, i'll need an address to mail to, and how many copies you want, if you want more than one. I have my own burner this year, so i'll be able to take the time to make sure each cd works, sorry if i burned you last year. If your computer is not so fast, i'll let you make that determination, i can resize the pictures, anything older than about 3 years will not enjoy the 4 Mb picture files.

Car engineers are smart, suby ones are even better, if the air bag goes off, you're gonna be glad it did, just my .04 but don't mess with automotive safety systems, there is not one person on this board that knows enough about airbags to make a judgement call on wether or not its a good idea to disable them. leave them on, you'll be glad you did Oh, and wear your seatbelt

I have just under 2 gigs of pictures, once i find out how many cd's it will take to get them all i'll figure out a price for copies, all funds will be a donation to the message board. -
Just a heads up, its the rear of the engine that bolts up to the Front of the tranny. spock would say that logically that would make it the engine seal. just a razz

The physics of tire size
NoahDL88 replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Lighter is better, so theoretically smaller is better, alloy wheels will be lighter, but if you hit a rock or curb they're done, steel wheels are much more forgiving. lowering the rpms will help to some extent, if you have a bigger tire, but if you're lugging the motor and have to down shift the benifit is gone. a smaller side wall will help in cornering, as will a wider tire, but go too wide and the friction goes up, MPG goes down. As far as brands go, go to a shop you trust and ask their opinion, and shop around, a lot of places will have goodyears for the same price as the Les Shwab no-names, you just gotta look around. the only bigger wheel available is the Peugeot(sp) do a search -
did it on an EA-82 about a year ago, i'm lazy so i'm still figuring out some of the wiring, like oil pressure and stuff like that.
-
for the street i'd go with what is stamped on the A pillar, as for mudding, as low as you feel comfortable with, you don't want to pop a bead. use some chalk and put lines perpendicular to the rotation of the tire, across the tread, and if its leaving spots behind, change your pressure. if its only in the middle, lower the pressure, if its only on the sides, increase it.

I used the 7-16th on mine, worked like a charm, use 7/16th bolts and you'll be good to go.

she's pretty, (the car) whats been done to it? has corky worked on an engine swap? -
don't see why not
-
It is my understanding that you can only swap in a newer engine, and when you do all emissions equipment must be used, such as evaporative emsisions, pcv, egr and the lot, so technically the water wagon is not kosher because there is no fuel evap circuit, good thing i live in michigan. displacement might be an issue as well.

4wd, is it engaged or not?
NoahDL88 replied to bboy135's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If its a stick, put it in 4 and rev it and drop the clutch, if it peals out, you've only got 2wd, if it bogs the motor, you got 4 -
He's in Traverse city Michigan, middle of nowhere, its a summer resort town, about an hour from where i went to school, wish i would have known 4 years ago. He's got a ton of parts in a warehouse that i'm gonna try and get him, or his son to sell, they seem to have everything we have, and need, and have never heard of us. BTW, keep it on the DL but he's got an XT-6, stick, gonna see if i can buy it from him next weekend, where to store it? that'll make 5, and i have room for 3 tops, but you can't pass up an xt6 and live to tell about it. On that note, what springs should i use in the xt 6, blown air ride? will "loyale" springs fit?

Good times in Traverse City, Michigan, the other Seattle. http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album145 Paul, check the vin pic, it may be a car worth looking at for parts. The 82 wagon has a EJ22, and the guy that did it has never heard of the board, the forester is lifted 6 inches, and has a custom steel bumper. http://www.subaruguy.com/ Is his shop site, i'm gonna try to get his son on the board, they got a warehouse full of stuff we could use, and a wealth of knowledge that would be helpful. btw, if you are in or around TC, get an oil change there, only 8 bucks. Needless to say i had the best weekend ever.
