they only have the 27s for the 14 inch rim, i got a set of forrester wheels and the smallest for the 15 inch is 235/75R15 which is about 29 inches. i'll have to keep looking, that seems a bit excessive for a reasonable amount of banging on the fenders

That truck is one of the few realistic ie not pinzgauer, non subies i'd like to own, nice score, Lucky.

so the stock legacy wheels are 22.7 and the disoverer SST's are 27.7, so the difference is 5 inches total, which divided by two is of course 2.5 so the real question is do you think they would fit with the forester springs and wheels? I'm gonna measure some time this week, but the look of those tires would be dang sexy on the legacy, and i'm not worried about a little pounding the fenders either. Yeah, i'm gonna crank this one to 11.

we all taste foot every now and then, i seem to do it most when i talk subies with women. i'm also a fan of digging holes and over analyzing, just ask my ex's on another note, if Ken reccomends the diff protector i may have to go out and get me one.

the back cover is ally, the actual housing is iron, i can take a picture of the rust on it if you'd like.

Under car cleaning leads to sudden problem
NoahDL88 replied to erikvr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok i'm gonna pull at the two short straws wait till its dark and start the car, see if you get visible sparks from near the wires and spark plugs, could be shorting on the puddle of water ontop of your engine could have little loose rocks inside the timing belt covers, same goes for in the clutch area does she run ok? cause if she seems to have power and then seems a bit doggy check the idler pully on the driver side, the one with the teeth, could have chucked a few ball bearings out of it. (true story) -

Great, that cuts down on the work a little bit. -

so for this convert, i need to use the legacy tops and the forester bottoms and springs? -
Its August 11th, i thought it was earlier but there's no going back now. I'm talking with Hodges Subaru in Ferndale about getting parking spots to show off the offroad subies. anyone else want to be there and beat off the millions of adoring fans? Sure its early, but the early bird gets the worm.

Is your Subaru dealer competent?
NoahDL88 replied to PictureChasers's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd try Carter Subaru in seattle, the responce i get from them is always "how many do you need" every where else is " i don't think there are any more of that in the US" Hodges here in michigan has been great though, takes a bit for them to find the obscure stuff, but John always finds it. -

Battery Bypass for Radio?
NoahDL88 replied to jimbo747's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe there is a 9 volt battery thing that plugs into your cig charger so that you don't loose your presets. -

Replacing a CV joint in Honduras...
NoahDL88 replied to dbenzmaine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thats the tricky thing about axles, they'll last for 2 years with a click, or brake in two after clicking for 20 minutes. worst case, if its 4wd, you can still run without that axle as follows 1 punch out roll pin and remove from stubshaft 2 dig around outer cv cup, on the inside is a spring clip, look for a round thick paperclip forcing itself out radially. 3 remove clip 4 pull "shaft" of cv joint 5 put into 4wd and drive away. 6 no 4wd you say, well that's your fault for buying a 2wd subaru, you're not going anywhere. -

you're crazy, i love it. I'm 99 % sure that any ea-81 non turbo axle will work, may be auto-stick specific too, if you can be choosy, go with the 2wd, they are stronger. -
were you up in the north country? looks like the Golan. I could however be way off. too bad i went to Israel before my subaru obsession

your economy will go down if you go to a higher test, stick with the min if you can avoid detonation, when you drop down to the lower elevations you may need to go to midgrade, but probably not.
-
you need to allow for MORE THAN 7 MINUTES FOR A RESPONCE, only about 3 people have done the swap, so its still completely custom, those that have done it may be a bit stingy with the info until it becomes more widespread of a swap. Swapping in a straight axle into a subie is at the level where you can either figure it out on your own or you shouldn't be trying at all. I'm sure you are the first one (you can figure it out on your own). As far as particulars, i believe that Qman swapped his toy to a isuzu, so he can run rear discs.

on your motor its not really an issue, but keep your radiator clear, as long as you check your rad when you are done and you arn't over heating i wouldn't worry about it.

thats purdy

Sorry, just got to clear some things up, your mechanic story, unless he was a 5% female weighing 95 pounds there is no way he got blown out the back window. If you hit somthing hard enough to set off the air bag, you ain't drivin away, cause your radiator will be gone, and especially if you don't wear your seatbelt, unless of course you have a huge redneck bumper and can bench 5000 lbs, cause thats what you weigh when you stop in .5 seconds at a speed fast enough to set off the safety sack.
