    D/R swap ?'s

I belive that the hubs are the same, the fact that you have now a 23 spline naturally aspirated dual range will necessitate the swap from the 25 spline turbo axles to the 23 spline shafts. A little more info would be champ, what car did the tranny come out of, what car is it going in?
  2. So I was looking at the FSM and the output shafts are clearly different for the two transmisisons, but the number of teeth on the end are the same, 10 its the ring gear thats different, 37 or 39, so the theory is that they might be the same? probably not though, anyone ever take a look at those?
  3. thermostat dosn't control the heater, it controls not only temp but flow, without it the temp will look cold, but the engine will run hot, trust me, its bad news. Keep it in, the thermostat that is, maybe go with a colder one, but don't remove it.
  4. you all seem to be forgetting about the filter, that should be replaced as well, but you need to drop the pan for that.
  5. don't have a clue, but make sure mcbrat gets a good look at those
  6. swap in a 5spd MT and lift it, yeah lift it, that would be sweet. ok, do what you want, nice car though, real nice
  7. Subarunation wanted to know, and i gave my .02, i'm sorry that i offended you, so many people have posted their opinion, and i gave mine. And 6 is the most true of them all, Nation, this isn't a personal attack, just an opinion, you get paid for the skill you have, ie: fixing cars is hard, and flipping burgers is not, the pay is set accordingly.
  8. not 100% but i believe that the timing on the xt is on the flywheel, it is on the gl and dl-loyale
  9. Tex's brown wagon with teh black wheels is hot, black is like subaru, it goes well with everything.
  10. did you prime the pump? not priming the pump will cause death very quickly
  11. There are rumors circulating for the last 4 years that there is a diesel EA-81 that was used in japanese fork lifts, no dice on that one yet. There is a girl in london ontario that is putting a Boat diesel in the back of her bug, apparantly its a flat four. no i don't have any info, met her on the plane, and never asked her name 300 foot pounds is gonna break axles like tooth picks, especially with the big tires and wheels. 90hp with 150-175lbsft would probably be perfect.
  12. As a mechanic i have learned a few things, and after reading this i've also learned a few things. 1. The price per hour is relative to the price of the car, at the ford dealership i worked at the price was 80 an hour, the mercedes dealership next door charged 115 an hour. 2. Flatrate, you know about it before hand in the quote they give you. and sure most times it works in the techs favor, but sometimes you can get bit in the backside, electrical gremlins shoot flat-rate right out the door. 3. Yeah, we got air and overhead lights, after that if we needed it we got it off the truck, and paid dearly for it. 4. We charge so much because of overhead, the 30000 in tech training, and because its a business not a charity. 5. Most techs are honest. Period 6. last but not least, if you don't like paying so much at the dealership, spend two years at school to learn how to fix your car, buy about 4000 dollars worth of tools and do it all yourself.
  13. don't just change the IP, if you bring the wiring from the other dash most of it works, and i'm sure all of it will, once i get the wiring done, btw, yeah i've done it.
  14. I'm positive i can swap low ranges, but i know that the diff may be an issue, i have the fsm and may have the time to hammer out the details, and if successful a writeup will follow
  15. I remember when you could give a kid a piece of glass and some rusty nails and they couldn't hurt themselves, oh wait that was me, and i did. but anymore today a nurf ball will get you into court for some injury or another.
  16. I consider that tranny a gift from the subaru gods, and as kharma dictates, the love will come back, i don't know how yet, but it will come full circle, yes the tranny is good enough to make me religious, if only for a few minutes. Pat, let me know how much shipping is, PM sent..........now, well in 10 minutes from now, which happens to be 5:50pm EST on march 7th 2005
  17. So here is the current plan, i just picked up a sweet MPFI engine from Moosens, and an even sweeter RX D/R diff lock from Moosens-Wagonsonly, thanks Andrew The theory is now to put them both into the 88 wagon, but with one twist, I'm gonna see how well the T-Case swaps with the NA dual range so that i can keep my low range of 1.59 but have the AWD around town. and a center diff lock when i need it, the beauty of this is that the DL already comes wired for the Center diff, which in that application was open or locked, not awd and locked. The rub is that its a 3.7 and thats not so good for the offroading, so i'm gonna see if i can put the diff lock on the NA D/R which would be teh hotness. i'll let ya'll know about the wiring once i figure it out. it should be cut and paste.
  18. I'll be there, 88 wagon, hopefully 80 wagon, if second driver or no 88 91 Legacy probably.
  19. great, the MPFI i just got from Moosens is a 2wd Auto, so its got the better disty, i was just worried about the bell housing, now i just need a flyhweel and a MAF sensor, and i'm good to go.
  20. Are the AT and the MT bellhousings on an EA-82 the same?
  21. 4 speeds in the hatches and brats, EA-81 5 speeds in the Wagons and sedans, EA-82 Only GL had them, Loyale's are DL's with a pretty bow.
  22. "probably" The question is how low profile you might have to go to get them to clear the outer and inner fender, the outer fender sounds worse and the inner fender keeps you from turning, this i know, and its bad.
  23. get your pics into the gallery and then its as easy as cut and paste
  24. On my new car i've bypassed the sticker craze and went right for the kill shot Only 49 left, get em while there hot
