    subaru lift

5 deep, 27 inch swampers trying to get up queen anne hill, yeah, that next week I swapped in a dual range.
  2. I'm currently uploading pages of the 84 manual, should be close enough to get what you need, the hatchbacks were pretty basic, I have an 86 my self.

    Lift Kits?

By all means, you are welcome here, but you're putting your opinion into things you have no practical experience or knowledge about. After some time, sure you'll know all about subaru and what wonderful things you can do with/to them, but your first post was an attack on an established member of this site who provides goods and services to the members here. Why don't we have a do-over, and you introduce yourself and the subie you have and we'll call it good.
  4. A quick jog around the internet on Google suggests that powdercoating is the best way to go. Thread on painting
  5. Its a trend that has been growing for, well, since the model T, You're in the minority, and fortunately only the sporty cars really come with the low profile tires, the base impreza has much taller tires than it's STi counterpart. Suspensions have come a long way in the last 20 years to soften bumps that would have made older cars unbearable on current wheels and tires.
  6. I put a super duper dryer hose cold air intake on my escort in highschool, 3 months later the car wouldn't run for nothin, had issues at high rpm high load and would only really putter around. Turns out the cold air intake did a fabulous job of funneling a whole bunch of road debris, bugs, rocks and leaves to the air filter and clogged it. As has been said, gimmicks are only good if you're the one making the money off them, a properly tuned engine will get you more power than those gimmicks. Ram air does work, at high speeds if you do it right and have a big scoop and a good frontal pressure area to get a pressure buildup from. Is it worth it? not for my time or money.
  7. I unfortunately left my crystal ball in my other pants, so I can't tell where "M" is, wait, is that for Metropolis? are you Superman? JK/JK Anyways, a junkyard is always a good place to start, some places are better about it than others, just have to know where to look, Seattle for example has quite a fantastic chain of local pull a parts.
  8. 'bout time the noobs started respecting us old timers, now get me some bacon and a nice dark ale.
  9. If you can find a set of Peugeot wheels they will bolt up, its the 140mm 4 bolt pattern you're looking for. Just watch out for the 390's they are .3 too big, which means they don't work at all. and some will require fancy lug nuts, but they are available. For offroad I'd recommend steel as they flex more than the alloy ones before they break.
  10. your best bet will be snow tires, and as the snow tire season is coming up there should be a good selection at your discount tire, tire rack or anywhere else.
  11. USRM Weber conversion Link Don't go for the EA-82 intake, I'd stick to the EA-81 intake, and I don't believe you even need to swap to the two barrel one, I've never heard of having to. The kit should come with an adapter plate, if you get one specific for a Subaru, make sure you use a good gasket and sealant, vacuum leaks suck.
  12. Yeah, I swapped in a 2.2, it ran great, but the car had so many other issues, so now the car has become a donor of sorts to other projects, the bumpers and transmission are going into my new project hatch, and the engine is in a friend's coupe project. The hatch will probably be getting a very similar treatment, but the added wisdom of 10 years will make it a much better car. if everything is about 75% its about 100% no fun to drive.
  13. http://www.decodethis.com/ That might work JF Japan Fuji 2 4wd And the rest I can't remember, but all the "good" subaru's are JF2

    Lift Kits?

I'm getting a 4 inch SJR soon, when I do I'll post pictures of the tricky bits if there are any, and make a step by step guide

    Lift Kits?

Habeas, just a quick question, have you ever installed, designed or in any way been associated with lifts, specifically Subaru EA or EJ series lifts? Didn't think so
  16. ahh to be young and know everything. The SJR lift is an amazing piece of design work, which takes into account steering geometry and is a top notch quality piece of kit. It builds on an existing lift kit that was made over 10 years ago, improves strength, ties weak mounting points together and is by far the best kit available right now. Engineering is simply taking something that is heavy and strong and making it as light weight as possible while maintaining the strength necessary for it to perform to expectations, sure the "bring it and we'll build it" kits are solid, but the extra weight of the kit is a liability and not an advantage.
  17. Baja is better That was my team at the last race.
  18. Its Rogghe, but who's counting I'm ashamed to admit that I don't remember who you are, but you must have been up at Ferris, and I'm sure if I saw you I'd know exactly who you are, I'm better with faces than names.

    subaru lift

Without the dual range it will not be pleasant offroad, I started with a DL which had the same transmission that your Loyale has. once I swapped in a GL transmission, (quite easy) it did very well. If the car is in a good state of tune it will be fine, mountain passes not withstanding.
  20. easiest is the 90-94 legacy, 2.2, out of a manual transmission. and please for the love of all things holy, read the writeup, 99% of the questions about these swaps are answered in Nunchux's 25 page writeup.
  21. you are aware of the the writeup that Nunchux did at the top of this forum? 1: cam crank knock o2 2: certain wires from the other end of those cut may be the ones for sensors (its in the writeup) 3: Ac compressor 4: Yes and probably yes, depends on if the yellow has the red stripe or not 5: I'd use the EA starter, but that's just me 6: Really? you want me to just come over and do it for you Oh, did I mention there is a writeup?
  22. How about this: Get the Score Baja 2010 rule book and see what class a stock subie would fit in. Prep said subie to the standards of that racing class. spend the 2-20 thousand on getting a team down there and pay fees, food, gas, hotels, parts, support....... Its closer, easier to get to, and if you're like the rest of us, and not made of money, a lot more realistic.
  23. FWD impreza are if you use the impreza or possibly legacy front knuckles. They are a bit wide though, or they were on my 88 wagon, with a lift.
  24. If you are not planning on offroad the brat the AWD will make the EJ swapped brat so much more of a pleasure to drive. with the 2wd/4wd the front tires spin out a lot.
