  1. The only real big issues that arn't immediately thought about are 1. Never tow with only 2 wheels spinning, or kiss your tranny goodbye. 2. always replace the tires in sets of 4's or kiss your tranny goodbye. other than that, have fun, and rage it. If you wanna go faster, get the handling up to par, get better sway bars and end links and go from there, the speed of these is made up in the turns and not the straight line. Welcome to the board.
  2. I guess we need to discern if its a whine, like whaaaaaaaaa, or if its an actual grind. If its a whine, its normal. if its a grind, 90W ain't gonna fix it.
  3. Last year i asked if anyone wanted to get some of these and bring them over, they are about 3k AUD, plust another 1.5K in shipping, so at the risk of . Unless we get a bulk shipment, there is no one that is gonna buy one for 6000 bucks.
  4. On one of my previous subies the filter was exposed, but it had a hood on it, however the front of the element was exposed, so when i was moving forward in the rain it picked up water which is no good at all. Make sure to have the opening facing down, really, people don't seem to listent when i say this, and then have to change their design after the first rain 6 months later.
  5. And by "new" cars, that would be anything built since around 1995, just an FYI
  6. If we made some of these offroad trips on a Sunday would that be so horrible? i work saturdays, and can usually get them off, but that means a hit to the paycheck. I have no idea where demming is, but i could be counted as in, and if Amanda needs a ride, i got extra seats.
  7. http://www.bellinghamherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060402/LIFE/604020347 for those of us that don't live in B-ham
  8. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980
  9. My EJ runs at about a quarter up from the bottom, and when it hits 75 % i know its running real hot, so no, there different, but if you establish a baseline, then you can manage with it using the EJ22 sensor and the EA-8X gauge.
  10. 88, what did you use for the metal part of the coolant hose? mine has a 1.25 inch pipe but it really necks down the flow to maybe only .75 of an inch, and yours is so much prettier. What did the bits for the oil pressure sender cost you?
  11. I'll still be there, rain? what rain, its called a tailgate for a reason
  12. I believe that the redline adapter is about 1 inch in height, although if you've lifted your rig, you can make one taller and increase the plenum volume, however that will mess with your jet settings, and you may have to go bigger or smaller depending on how it effects your vacuume signal.
  13. If you're worried about slipping, be sure to use the XT-6 pressure plate, it clamps down about 50% more than the normal EA-82 plate, i don't have a supercharger, but i've been running an EJ swap with swampers for about 7000 miles now, and i've never had any slip issues, ever.
  14. Just turn the lights on, and leave them there, its not DRL's but they go off so you don't have to worry about jumpstarting because you left them on. I've had the light switch on my 88 on solid since i got it, maybe have had it off 5 times tops.
  15. Its come up before, but i thought i'd re clarify again anyway. Backpressure is bad, but its not necessary, you don't need backpressure for proper operation of your engine. What is important is flow velocity, you want your exhaust to flow between 240-260 FPS anything less and you get wind shear, which we see as backpressure, and anything more and the air becomes stagnant and looses its velocity.
  16. Have you just tried to tighten the nut? it could be as simple as that, or as you said, the junk yard. IIRC there is an "O" ring in there, you might check to make sure that its still good, cause if it isn't that could certainly be the cause, and even at the stealership an "O" ring can't be more than a couple of dollars.
  17. It takes a strong man to own up to his mistakes. Now, i'm sure that the mods would have no problem about a properly identified post in the off topic section, shoot there's enough of us that we should get some sort of team or support together even. Keep us posted, just no V12 subies
  18. It may be a hair closer http://www.ddir.com/store_holman_road.html 5PM, bring cash, they don't take plastic, its cheaper than RR though, so it wins. Do the no rain dance friday night and we should have a sunny saturday.
  19. BAD IDEA For 2 reasons, your engine will never heat up, so you will get fuel puddeling and horrid mileage, and also the T-stat acts as a restriction, giving the coolant enough time to pick up heat, so without it you will be running cooler, but you'll have hot spots.
  20. There are 2 types of VSS's the ones for ABS, those are on the corners of the car near the brakes. The type that controls the spedo is in the tranny, I don't know how easy it is to get to, but i'd suggest that you make sure that your spedo cable is still attached, I don't know if your model has one, but it'll be cheaper than finding out later.
  21. maybe its just that its getting warmer. Make sure that your fan comes on, and it wouldn't hurt to pull your T-stat and make sure its opening and closing, or just get a new OEM one and put it in.
  22. I just left michigan, now i'm on the real left coast, the Pacific, not lake michigan. There were some good places up where i went to school, in Big Rapids, but theres got to be better places around, but after offroading out here, i don't think i'll ever be able to go back, too sandy and flat.
  23. Dang, i can't do anything right I work saturdays, so later is better for me, and since i took most of this week off, i don't think the boss will be too keen on letting me take saturday as well.
