  1. There is a solenoid that controls the AWD, and a fuse in the engine bay that disables it. under that theory, if you hook up a swith to the parking brake release button, you could have it activate when you push the button. I've got a 5mt that i'll be swapping in eventually so i just e-brake slide away, however, i put in a stiffer rear sway bar, so i don't need the ebrake for that any more. I have a OBS, so i used a WRX wagon bar, but in an OBW, you might need to get one from IDP or Rallitek
  2. An engine is and engine is an engine. The subie's are slightly different in how they come apart, the wrist pins and pistons come apart before the case, but other than that they are straight forward. The three things i would check very carefully would be the bearing surfaces, the valve seats, and the cylinder walls. other than that use OEM parts if you can, they are certainly better than the aftermarket, especially for the head gaskets and the timing belts.
  3. I was planning on using the 91 5mt from my legacy in a 96 OBS, everyone seems to think it will work, although i may need to find the OBS pedal cluster. These things are like legos though, should work just fine.
  4. The minute you put any aftermarket go fast bits on your subie, the powertrain warranty is voided. Some dealers may work with you if you have built up a rapport with them, but i wouldn't count on it. When you rebuild your tranny, as you are gonna have to pay for it yourself, i'd get some RA gears or some MRT gears, there are a whole bunch of distributors for high strength gears, check the "unibombers manifesto" on Nasioc, he's got a good write up on the available gearsets that will work in your application.
  5. I think there 05-06 foresters, almost 100% on the 2006, but the 2005 i'm 50/50
  6. I knew about it, but thats only because i'm unemployed and hang out at the dealership more than they'd like. On that same note, if you have the new SOA filter, check your oil level, if it seems to be going down and your ride dosn't usually burn oil, its the gasket on the filter, but as you said, the new ones have been fixed, it was only about 2 months ago that the cars were effected.
  7. I'll look into my Crystal ball and try and diagnose this. Umm, nope, crystal ball is on the fritz. Try autozone or another similar auto sales place, they should scan your codes for free, their crystal ball is better than mine.
  8. Yes, it should fit. it will be all custom. the drive drain(sic) should fit, but that will also be custom.
  9. ditto on the belt, check for tension. could also be the disty or the alternator, you can get the alt tested for free at an auto zone.
  10. i know that the rear axle bend dosnt' fit so well on the EA-82, so i don't know about the EA-81. for the time and effort i'd go custom, maybe use a similar diameter and make it fit like it should.
  11. I would, sure, don't know about reliability, but if i had the scrach i would tomorrow.
  12. Yeah, but you'll have to search first, just like everyone else. Oh wait, no one searches, never mind.
  13. I normally wouldn't mention it, but its some of the guys that you, and i need the most help from, so i try not to make them mad. No harm no foul.
  14. Rice, ricer and chango are slurs, your friend may not care, but there are a lot of people on this board that do.
  15. shouldn't have much trouble keeping up, the AWD is pretty good, at least better than i had anticipated in some hairy spots.
  16. i've been running the forester springs and struts for about 3 months now, no problems yet.
  17. Hey Buddy, lets keep the racial slurs to a minimum, or none at all. If people don't respect you, a nice new car isn't gonna fix that, maybe its you and not the car. you clearly are trying to show off, as show in your signature, i'm glad you're letting us know that your mom used to drive a Quest, Whoot. You're 16, we've all been there, some of us more recent than others, but everyone's been 16, well except Soobmater. Point is, you've got a lot of growing up to do, highschool sucked for me, i got no respect, i had a 15 year old ford station wagon with wood paneling, people made fun of my car for 4 years. looking back at the people that were so caught up with putting down my car, they still live in that one horse town and i've moved on to bigger and better things. Who cares what this guys parents drive, if you get all caught up in it, then you sir are just as stupid as these guys that you complain about. If you really think that cars make the person, you had better not stop there, get yourself a pink polo shirt at ambercrombe and pop your collar.

    How much lift?

No point in having huge tires if i can't climb the mountian behind Zap and Ken
  19. It seems like almost every post has been pertinent, we have all gotten used to the shady irishman pushing his wares on every unsuspecting person on the net. you asked about an ally lift, SJR showed you his. You can't fault people for giving their opinion about the lifts, you say this is your first subie, and this would logically be your first subie lift, you even acknowledged that you are a subie noob, maybe you should listen to all those people that have built and run their own lifts, you start complaining about the info you get, you won't be getting any more help here. Calling Qman a Genius, you're half right, drop the sarcasm and you'd be right on. Of all the people on the board, he'd be the one to have on your side.
  20. Thats so simple yet so briliant. cool.

    How much lift?

Hmm, must get more torque for the bigger tires.
  22. I'm sorry, did you want us to throw you a pitty party?
  23. I don't know if "dust in the wind" is being used in the great white north, but it's stupid, infact, i'd go so far as to say that most subie adverts are junk. There seem to be two demographics that buy Subies, the "rally racer" and the "responsible octigenarian" Which as i'm sure you know are very divergent groups. How would i advertise? I'd put more WRC clips in the commercials, even if the end buyer isn't going for a WRX it would sure prove the point that they have great traction. I'd try to show the fun that can be had in the car, in the Nissan 350Z commercial they play one of those songs you hear as a kid. That commercial really encapsulates the emotion of the car. Its winter, thats when Subaru shines, dust in the wind? BAH Subaru, as reliable as the postal service, neither wind nor rain or snow..... I saw a real old advert that said, "remember the big winter of 93? Neither do we. Subaru symetrical AWD"
