My Ultimate, Hatchback 3.0 H6 T-5 RWD transmission Atlas T-case 4:1 or higher low range, Unimog or C-303 Portal Axles, possibly even Hummer axles, Lockers of course, with the Cybrid H-6 steering pump 38-44 inch Swampers And of course all the fun little additions that make life worth while, winch, welter, on board air. With all that weight, i would certainly think that the Hatch would need serious reinforcement structurally, as well as for safety. Yeah, i know, its not much of a Subie anymore, but putting the H-6 through an old D/R tranny, and then trying to turn some serious tires, you are the weakest link good bye.

Standard sail canvas might do you real well, theres got to be some kind of rubber coating you could apply like those weird rubber gloves your mom uses to wash dishes with. Ross, MagnificentSubaru, i don't know if he's still on here, but at the HPSS1 he had a cover just as you are speaking of in place of his 3rd door on a 3 door coupe.

Cam installation position
NoahDL88 replied to soobscript's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe that the alignment pin, the extra hole of the 3 where the pully bolts to the cam, there is a 4th one that has a roll pin in it, on the drivers side that needs to be straight up, and on the passenger side, straight down. As far as your flywheel, if you don't have the 3 marks left on that you're totally fracked. -
I'd reccomend a brass drift, your less likely to hurt the hub as it won't tear into the bearing mount surface. If you don't have them yet, i'd reccoment 207S bearings, there sealed, so if you follow Austin, you're less likely to need to replace them because of water immersion.

Sailmakers come to mind as a place that could do your sewing. there used to crazy designs and thick materials. But as i'm sure you know, Bozeman as i understand it, is no hotbed for sailboats

He made it to us, Sweet82's the guy for the "crazy" hatchback go-kart "cool mobile"

I'm supprized, i was on the minority too. I definately feel that there should be ORV specific trails, because if we have our own trails we won't need to go and find other trails and trespass.

There's EBC pads for our old rigs?

Hate to say it, but the coil and the filter will get you maybe 1 hp tops. Real gains cost Real money. Not trying to discourage you, but want you to know that when you start with a car that has 125 horsepower With a turbo, unless you throw money at it your not gonna break any records.

Miles, is there anything about Subaru's you don't know? -
Huzzah, the first time i did timing belts it was a disaster, but now i can do them with only a handful of tools and in about half an hour, with AC it may take an hour. As far as offending people from Wisconson, they don't really matter do they?

Welcome, i'll direct you to the top 3 forums for your needs 1, Offroad forum, that one is pretty self explanitory 2, Retrofiting, Subaru into Subaru 3, Anything non Subaru + Subaru parts. any combination of these 3 should give you exactly what you're looking for. Someone made a "go-kart" of sorts out of an old hatchback, i don't know his screen name, but a search for "summer" should turn somthing up.

Most reliable Subaru engine?
NoahDL88 replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
would it be the one in your rabbit? -
I wouldn't be the one to ask for specifics, but i can tell you this, more air in, more power out. There is a company that makes a better header, which would help you get the turbo spooled better, and you can even have it made to accept the wrx turbo, which then would allow you to run the wrx exhaust, which is a marked improvement. Getting an Intercooler will also help a lot, everything from the legacy air water cooler, Saab air to air ford T-bird, and the WRX have been used. depending on what year your car is, flapper door or hot wire, there is a fuel cutout preventer. The stock computer cuts fuel when boost gets too high. there is a way to delay or prevent this so you can increase the boost to a more respectable level. Since you have a turbo, i'll assume you either have an RX an XT or a GL-10, if you don't you are in the wrong forum. Apparantly the RX front springs are the best for handleing, as far as rears i think that the GL-10's are the best, and the XT-6 has the best sway bars. A good tune up will do wonders, and you should be able to advance your timing a few degrees, but make sure to avoid detonation, or bye bye motor. Wheels leave you with only a few options, the Peugeot wheels, the 504 and the 505 models but avoid the 390's they are 15.3 inches. with the non 390's you can run a lower profile wheel on a 14 or 15 inch rim, and there are some alloys so you can even save weight. Speaking of saving weight, every 10 pounds you remove from the car you "gain" a horsepower, so make the car lighter if you can, get rid of all that junk in the trunk. I think i covered as much as i know. Good Luck

Subies first trip out, 88DL EJ22 (56K) AHHH
NoahDL88 replied to NoahDL88's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yes, yes and yes. I hope, knock wood, that i won't have to worry about timing belts, but i have a spare, so either way i should be set. Monday i find out if i have a job here in Michigan, (my only reason to stay) If i don't get it, i'll for sure be coming out to Seattle, and sure, a trip to Ak would be great. -
Most reliable Subaru engine?
NoahDL88 replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This would be the truth. Now, concider this: The EJ22 has 5 main bearings, and the EA-81 has 3, discuss. -
Quick flywheel compatibility Q
NoahDL88 replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
CCR was very much against using the EA-82 flywheel with the EA-81, because despite the fact that it bolt up, it can still move, if ever so slightly, which could at an inopportune clutch dump could shear your bolts. -
Has anyone ever tried this?
NoahDL88 replied to Subarian's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I belive someone on the board made adjustable cam pullies, IIRC there were some pictures, so if you're good with machine tools you might be able to make some yourself, with the pictures as a guide. -
The Dealership owner thought i should park on the grass Can't have a cool car without a cool plate I confused the service writer just a little bit PK lift, Soobme Bumpers and rack, Mudrat adapter plate for teh win Didn't skip a beat, rides like a champ, feels real nice going down the road. And i'd honestly like to thank everyone who helped make this happen, from the begining, not just the engine, but everyone who's been there to help me along since my first Evan's Creek outing in 2002 In no particular order, Zap, Qman, Tex, Austin, Ed, Corky, John, Pvt Arne, Krissy and the Hatch Patrol. Without you guys, i'd probably still have a subie, but you guys Make the ride worth while. Can't wait to be back "home" in Seattle again. And thanks to Jeff, for letting me use his garage during the worst part of the 03-04 winter while we were trying another engine swap. He's a Mopar guy so i had to keep him seperate.
