  1. Recently bought a '93 Legacy L wagon.. I'm the third owner.. It has 151,000 on the clock and looks okay. I have the origianl title and all of the transfer names on it so I know mileage is accurate. Someone did a little body work on the rust and then painted over the Bondo.. a 20 footer but good enough for me. It had a minor exhaust leak that I patched with POR 15 epoxy putty. I got it inspected yesterday and the guy passed me but said that come my next inspection in March..the birthday month.. I may have to replace the entire system. "It's not so bad for a beater" he said. My wife, owns a '93 Impreza, said to me after.."that's all we buy is beaters" and then she laughed. The only problem with the interior is that the previous owner always took his dog, a shepherd, to work with him and left the dog in the car. Yeah, the car smells..so I've been trying to clean the carpeting but it's a little tough doing it in 20 degree weather. Any suggestions on the odor??
  2. I have a question regarding the location of the door lock switch.. I looked at the Chilton's manual..I know they're not very helpful..and I have a schematic for the power door lock assembly. I see the lock actuator and the inner remote assembly..but I can't find the "switch" A friend needs a switch and I have an extra door but can't figure out the jargon.. Can anyone clear this up for me?? Thanks!
  3. Will a speedometer cluster from a 1990-1994 Legacy left-hand drive car also fit a right-hand drive Legacy?? It's being used in as a Postal Service delivery vehicle.. I can't see why it wouldn't but I want confirmation from other Subie fans..
  4. Thanks for the info! Hers is AWD The trans light dosen't blink.. I think it could be the tires. She recently got two new back tires..so uneven tread depth sounds like the problem. It is one really weird feeling! I had a 91 Legacy wagon with AWD and never had this kind of trouble even when the rear tires were one brand and the fronts another.. Oh well..
  5. My wife's '93 Impreza with an automatic, has an apparent delay in the shifting. The tach gets way up in the 3500 range from a dead stop before it shifts. I've told her to take it easy starting from a dead stop in order to prevent any damage. What could be causing the problem. The car isn't modified and has the 1.8 engine with 133,000 on the odometer. She's the third owner of the car. The tranny fluid looks good and it is up to the full mark. Fluid was changed by second owenr at 100,000.
  6. Hi, There is a product called POR-15 that I have used to fight rust and have had great results. You have to carefully prepare the surface and their website has all the details. They even have an epoxy type filler that dries hard as a rock..I even use it to mend a hole in my computer monitor and patched a leak in my basement wall with the stuff. Hope that this helps!
  7. Have you noticed how yellow and grimey your headlights get? The solution is incredibly cheap. I've been selling Subaru headlights on e-Bay for a few months and have found that even the yellowest lights come clean with this simple proceedure. First go to your neighborhood "Dollar Store", "All For A Dollar", "Everything 99 Cents"..you get the idea... and get a tube of "Natural White Extreme" toothpaste. (Similar "whitening" toothpastes are the ones that promise "whiter teeth than the average toothpaste.") These toothpastes are very abrasive and will remove even the nastiest road filth. Next get a soft dry cloth..dry..not wet and apply a generous amount of paste to the headlight glass. Gently rub it on, let the paste do its work, then rub it off. If it is stubborn, finish up with another cloth and some Orange Cleaner.. and that's it! Dry and you are done. You'll also improve your night vision with cleaner glass. It kinda works like polishing compound did on auto paint back in the old days..before clearcoat. One tube of toothpaste can clean about 8 or 10 headlights.
  8. Howdy! I have 4 Misty Dawn colored Doors, 1 Hood and Trunklid all for sale at $50 each. All from a '93 Legacy L sedan I also have 4 Silver/Grey Doors and a Hood for sale at $50 each from a '90 Legacy LS wagon. I also have the power sunroof from the wagon available for $75. The grey station wagon headliner is also available for $30. The 93 parts have no visible rust on the inside. The car appears to have been garaged all of its life. The 90 doors have just a slight coating on the inside. All have power windows. Of course, if you purchase more then one item, I'll bring the price down. I live in Southeastern NH near the Seacoast. I have been selling the smaller Subaru parts on e-Bay since last summer and I have been an e-Bay seller since 1999 with a 99.6% Satisfaction rating and 905+ Feedback.
  9. No..It has no moving parts..it's 4 1/2 inches by 3 inches by 1 inch thick.
  10. Howdy, I am parting out a 1993 Legacy sedan and found a piece of electronics called the p/b control unit. It's made by Denso. I found it in the trunk on the driver's side, behind the liner on the wall above the wheel well. I'm guessing that it's the remote control unit for the keyless entry system, but I don't have any key fobs to back up that idea. Any suggestions??? Thanks for the help!
  11. Duly noted. I meant the right side.. I must have been asleep when I posted the question..or it's a sign of advancing age..lol!
  12. Howdy, Is the air cleaner housing..the box on the right fender..the same for the '93 Legacy Turbo as it is for the Non-turbo? Thanks for the help!
  13. Sounds to me like the cable is jammed at the latch end. Flip down the backseat, crawl into to trunk..carefully, and see if you can move the cable end at the latch.
  14. Amen on the Amsoil! I had an '88 Chevy Beretta with Amsoil ATF fluid and put 260,000+ miles on it before the engine threw a rod.. I was told by the wrecking yard that I got my money's worth.. the tranny was still shifting smooth...up until the engine quit. I have synthetic auto tranny fluid in my 91 Legacy L AWD wagon and have 125,00 miles on it and it's still shifting like new!
  15. I have a 93 Legacy parts car and want to remove the airbag from the steering wheel.. I've disconnected the battery and the yellow connector from the unit under the ashtray..now what?
  16. I'm in the midst of replacing the timing belt on my '91 Legacy and can't get past removing the crankshaft pulley! I'm using a breaker bar and chain wrench as suggested by the Haynes manual and it's a bear..(insert cuss word here) to remove.. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated!
