  1. Do a search on this board for Pull Codes or something to that effect. The User legacy777 has a Website with good instructions. The Link is http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html I think. Thanks
  2. Check the Codes. Or even take it to a Suabru Dealership or a Suabru Repair Shop to get the Codes.
  3. Anyone know if a Transmission out of 90 Legacy Sedan will fit into a 90 Legacy Wagon? I dont know all the details but mine is a L Wagon and the one I saw for sale is a Sedan. Thanks
  4. Thats funny, not bored just stupid. I got lost in the search realm, got up to get some coffee, and started replying to stuff. Sorry guys.
  5. Gotcha, I know a guy here in town who removed his but I have not been able to track him down to ask him. I will check his wifes car to see if he put a spring in. If not then I will put one in her 85 as well as mine. Thanks
  6. Okay I found the switch, I was looking in the front, so thanks for your details. The switch on this one was held in place by a Philips head screw. No keepers on the Inside, thankfully. Anywaus the reason it was not engaging is becasue the portion of the door meant to depress it is rusted out. I threw a bracket over it for now, later I will patch the door. Thanks alot to all who helped. Gabe
  7. I would expect 700 at the most. Unless you replaced the Clutch or Tranny at some point.
  8. I recommend Seafoam because I had a simlilar problem on a 85 GL Wagon and an 87 Wagon. Both were from Salt Lake and were rusted. When my wife ran them out of Fuel. ( In both ) Rust and other debris in tank went into the Fuel Filter and clogged it. After replacing the Fuel Filter I added Seafoam to the Gas Tank. This helped greatly I agree that he should test for spark and make sure the Fuel Pump works. If he has not changed the Fuel Filter within the past 5000 Miles then I still stand by replacing it and adding Seafoam regardless of the other troubleshooting. I might be assuming to much to think he has not changed it at regular intervals. So please disregard if you have done this.
  9. Weel, I am not sure what determination the mechanic used to say fuel pump and I dont want to assume anything. You must pull the codes, if you dont know how to then legacy777 can give you very detailed instructions on his site. He is the master of the 90-94 Legacy. It could be your crank sensor. This would cause you car to Crank but no Start. However it is unlikely that a 92 Crank Sensor would go out. I would replace the Fuel Filter and toss a little Sea Foam in there.
  10. maybe you can get the seller to pull the codes for you. It only take about ten minutes. I tried to get my seller in new York to do it but he just didnt have the time.
  11. Sorry Qman, it is the passenger side Front (Right Front) and occasionally the rear drivers ( Left Rear)
  12. It seems it would fepend on if it were a Sti or not, whether or not its a wagon or a sedan, and if it came with a factory sub or not. The best way to find out what speaker fits the Front and Rear door go to <www.crutchfield.com> and in the left hand column, there is a link called " What Fits My Car" From there you can find out exactly what speakers will fit. In general it seems that it is 6.5" in the Front and 4" in the rear. It did seems like there were not very many optios for speakers in the Wagon. Good Luck
  13. Yes, I also scope out other State DMV Sites when I am travelling. Google. I would scope it for you but I am in in the erong direction. I do think it is supposed to get a little dicey around mid week. I dont think anything subastanial though.
  14. Depends on the year and the condition of the Body. I have a rusted 85 GL and I hated putting $600 Dollars into a new clutch because it is still a rusted 1.6L peice of junk. If you do get the car and its pre 87 I would offer no more than $50. Because that saves them the 50 they would have to pay to haul it off. BTW- some of my best friends, who are also the most gifted people, are from Bellingham. So I am sure that you could have great success with undertaking such a project. Most older Wagons I have has have lost thier head gasket. So you might as well get one without an Engine- that saves pulling one out tp fix seals and gaskets. Good Luck- Once you know what kind of engine you need PM me and maybe I will be able to help you find one. Thanks
  15. You are kidding me, I just wrote a post about buying a car in New York last night. I don't know your plan and I dont want to assume anything. But let me say this. Have the car shipped to your state. I highly encourage you painful as it to read my diatribe on this very subject in a Post called Legacy Prices Across the USA, any opinions. Or do a search for New York DMV. You may have bought a car in new York before, in which case please disregard my concern. I am just a sucker who made the mistake of going to get a car that I had bought in New York. My friend was nearly arrested and the Sub nearly impounded. Fortunatly the fail safe " I am from Wyoming" excuse saved him. But anyways please read that other post or PM if you want more info about Vehicle Retrieval for Non- New York residents. Thanks Oh and as far as the troubleshooting goes. You may want to bring a Fuel Filter- Not sure if the car is dying as it idles or if it would die while a person was romping on the Throttle? But either way maybe Fuel pressure is an issue. Bring an alternator if you can. Perhaps it is acting flaky and the car losses power after something overheats.( Doubtful) Maybe the lead on the back of the alternator is getting brittle and get hot enough to cut out. The only other thing I can think of ( not sure if applicable in this situation) But isnt there a Device that makes the Car idle at higher RPM for the first ten minutes or so and then kicks it down to 1000 or 700. Maybe it does idle high and then when it is kicked down by this Device ( the name of which does not come to mind - Some sort of Sensor Likely) , the idle is set to low and it just dies. Also is this a Turbo by any chance? I will check this post later. My advice may not be helpful, but thats all I can think of right now. Thanks, Gabe
  16. Thats what I thought, after messing around with it and learning how it worked it seemed as though I could just take it off and be done with it. Thanks
  17. When you say no code came up. Did you pull the codes or were they pulled with a Select Monitor at a dealership? Just wondering because if there is problem, I would think a code would present itself. Might be a sensor or something to that effect.
  18. Wow! Does not seem worth it if thats the case. Plus comes in handy when in San Francisco. Thanks
  19. 85 Gl Wagon as mentioned in the Title of the Post. I was going to put it in the body as well and sometimes do. Just didn't want to redundantantant....... Thanks
  20. We recently replaced the Clutch on our 4WD Wagon. The clutch cable is frayed and looks like it is about to snap. I would like to take the hill holder out of the picture entirely. I think I can just remove the Hill Holder Cable from the Rocker Arm Assembly and be done with it. Has anyone done this?
  21. Interesting, I could not locate any switch when I last checked. I will look again. Thanks
  22. My Door Ajar Light stays on because I think that door got hit at one point. Does anyone know how they are triggered so I can just shut that one permanently. Thanks
  23. My Power light had been blinking a while back and I have had some transmission problems( ie. binding, hesitation etc.) Does anyone know how to get TCU codes for the Loyale. I saw Josh's "handshake instructions for reading TCU Codes on 90-94 Legacies but I am unable to do that becasue I dont have a Manual Button- ONly a 1 Hold Button. So if anyone has any ideas. Also I have checked the ECu Codes already. Thanks
  24. Okay in New York you can not drive a car, on Ney York roads period without registration. For example, in Wyoming if you buy a car and have it insured then you can drive it for 30 Days on the Title alone. In New York you can't even drive it to the DMV. You need to get a Intrastate in Transit Permit just to get to the DMV. Well the New York DMV is like an all day event or at least a half a day. It is very hard to get anything done third party there as well unless it is a spouse or gaurdian or something like that. If you were wanting to buy a car in Ney York and take it out of State then you can get an Interstate In-Transit Permit to get it out of the State of New York. If you are a non-resident then you would need a letter from any out of state insurance provider, that letter needs to be faxed to the DMV directly and there is a considerably long list of requirements that must met within the letter. In my case I had sent a friend to get the car because I have a newborn baby and a full time Job. Even though we had the seller put the title in my name and in my friends name, and I had him listed as an insured driver on the Car that was purchased, we could not get the permit. Due to the fact that the Geico policy was in my name and he was merely a Insured Driver, and not a Policy Holder. So to further complicate matters there are several DMV Offices and it does amount to work just to fax it to the right one. So the permits themeselves are not expensive or anything, they do reqiure better planning than what I had done. Also these permits are not recognized by the State of Mass ( I think Mass, it might be Maine? ) So maybe from where you are from it might not be a big deal. I am from Wyoming and it is really easy to get stuff done around here. We dont have to deal with the DMV for License Plates and registration becasue it all done through the County Treasurer. If you do buy a car in New York make sure you have an Insurance Company that is willing to Fax the letter, and that you as the buyer are the one to go and get it. My only disclaimer about New York is that if you are having the car shipped on an open Transport or any Flatbed you do not need it to be registered. That would be a Department of Transportation issue and they said it does not need to be registered to be on a Truck- On a side note other challenges in New York was for Subaru Service i.e. Grand Prix Long Island Subaru ( Located at 500 S. Broadway in Hicksville) Would not even work on my car becasue it was not registered. The lame part of that is that I told them my situation and they had me get it towed there. So I had to pay for the tow there and out of there. I waited until Monday to get the Permit so that they would work on it ( all I wanted was for them to put the Select monitor on it) Once Monday came they said that even if I got the permit then they would still not work on it because it was so old ... a 94? .... okay I dont get it. The Service Manager there seemed to have very little regard for human life. A similarly lame expereince at Metric Subaru leads me to believe that all Subaru Shops of Long Island are Sub par and I truly pity any poor soul who breaks down there in a Subaru. If you do buy a Car in Ney York and you dont want to deal with Subaru Dealerships or the DMV I recomend an awesome Auto Transport Broker- use Iron Horse Tranport of Orlando, FL- That guy hooked it up on a Sunday! The fastest and cheapest Broker I have found. He is not even on the Web- he can be found on 1-800-555-1212 ( Toll Free Directory Assistance) " Auto Transport " my only regret is that I did not call him sooner. I know this was some what of a diatribe but here I hope this answers your questions. Thanks, Gabriel
  25. Not sure what year you are dealing with but check to make sure you did not break the Clutch Cable if you have one. I have one on my 85 Gl. We just replaced the Clutch in it and I noticed that my Cable is rusted and looks like it will brake any day now. Maybe not the case but its worth looking at.
