Sept. 27-29 Mt. Rainier, WA Old-Gen Meet
Flowmastered87GL replied to jj421's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
If I make it, it would likely be Saturday during the day, sleeping there and heading home Sunday. Depends on the weather, how much I worked during the week, and how big my paychecks are. If I am too tired from the week I need the weekend to recharge. If I have plenty of energy then its no big deal to drive up.- 31 replies

Had I been paying attention to this thread I woulda understood a little better your mention of the FF1 during the judging process at WCSS. I didn't know the FF1 you mentioned was THIS one! I think I know someone who has a car with an EA63. Not sure if he would part with the engine, but if offered an EA81 or something in trade who knows??

It was the rims and the contents of your trunk that got your 1st place Twitch. -

If I was flying up solo I would join in. But I am waiting for a passenger from Vancouver later in the day. -
WCSS 15 What YOU Need to Know
Flowmastered87GL replied to WCSS's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
If the go-carts are there, thats reason enough to bring your own helmet even if you aren't playing in the mud pit. I prefer to use my own and not the sweaty loaner thats been passed around all day. -
Interested to see if anyone is trying to get to WCSS shortly after the gates open Friday. Hoping for arrival between noon and 3PMish (so we have a pick of the good spots as it sounds as if they are already near 200 registrations) Its always nice to help each other set up camp (I always aim for somewhere louder than the family end, but quieter than the party end) Could meet in Jantzen Beach or Delta Park or something maybe??

Old Gen Caravan to WCSS?
Flowmastered87GL replied to MR_Loyale's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Agreed.... the drive home from WCSS 5 was brutal! Portland to Oak Harbor, all day of show and then drive back to Portland in one day. -
Yes... diesel with a dual range tranny!

I forget if the parts are compatable... but if they are, consider swapping in normal manual belts from a GL... problem solved. (maybe tear one apart at a u-pull it so you can see if all the proper bolt holes are still there)

After what happened, before throwing in a new engine I would want to make sure the carb was working properly so you don't destroy the new engine. If you were not in CA I would say get a rebuilt or good used engine, throw on a weber carb and be done with it. Sadly I don't think you can use a weber carb in CA.

This is probably the safest way to deal with it. Fool the car to make it think the belt is on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Car-Safety-Seat-Belt-Buckle-Alarm-Canceller-Stopper-Eliminator-Black-/161055967532?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item257faf092c&vxp=mtr#ht_2769wt_926

Personally I love most of the colors. The rims I could live with, or sell em like Zap if you don't like em. I would love to have the Orange (as its a sorta earthy orange and not a douchebag orange), or the red or the dark blue, or the silver or grey. The Khaki is kinda funky looking, I doubt I would get that color. I wouldn't do black because I don't like the tan interior (I drive a yard debris truck, the seats would get dirty too fast)

Water Pump Troubles?
Flowmastered87GL replied to jj421's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is also a small coolant line that I seem to recall comes out the top of the block and into the bottom of the intake manifold. Its hidden quite well, but it has failed on more than one of my past GL's -
Offering a ride-along in your XV???

I like that its close.... but I don't like that its in a lousy neighborhood. I'm tempted to put a luggage lock on my tent.

Subaru Buy Back... not so amazing
Flowmastered87GL replied to Boomer84's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Subaru had offered me a guaranteed trade in value years ago on my baja. I held on to my Baja, but the price they offered was irrelevant. Even if they could offer me something above book value like $15000 today, it wouldn't mean anything because the dealer could just pad the price on the new car and refuse to negotiate. Not to say they would, but without something along the lines of $XXXXX for your car AND new car at invoice, it means pretty little. Also makes me think of a somewhat unrelated, but similar marketing ploy by a mattress store. We will beat anyone's price or the mattress is free. Its NEVER going to be free. If the store down the street is selling the mattress for even $1, this store will sell it for 99 cents. There is a reason I didn't go into marketing. I hate it. -
If it can really get 35 MPG average I'd buy it.... but the EPA estimates don't make it look much better than a normal one.

Have a question about the Crosstrek? Ask an owner!
Flowmastered87GL replied to subeman90's topic in Crosstrek "XV"
I bet you can get a decent amount for the take off wheels. If I had an XV right now I would pay good money to use them as matching snow wheels. -
ea82 Belt configuration
Flowmastered87GL replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its been a while since I have done an EA82 Water pump but be aware that some use a long style and some use a short style... so in changing to the non AC alternator bracket you may now need to change your water pump as well. My 87 GL was a non AC with power steering and I loved that it had belt redundancy. The two belts ran the exact same path (and it saved me a breakdown afew times)
