Ummm to tighten the alternator look at the back of the long pivot bolt... this is the BajaVWSCoobnut method.... use a 14mm combination wrench on the back nut (use the open end as its not a perfect hex) then use the wrench to put tension on the belts... then tighten up the outher 12mm bolt... you now have tight belts and can do it singlehandedly too

I bet my brat is the rustiest you've seen around here huh Rick? Its the rustiest ive seen. for those that dont know: Rust holes to be fixed: Firewall spare tire area Door sill spots Bottom of front fenders (just gonna chop off like subarujunkie) Right rear fender well Former jump seat mounting area (to be fixed with leftover metal from bobbing the rear) When all is said and done it will look good again.... and the frame is totally solid dispite all this rust on it

He he your wagon looks so funny with 4 lugs. My list of changes: 1985 New generation... 1986 Different rear hatch emblem, different seat upolstry (less vinyl than 85), different side view mirrors (no longer door mounted, they now mount on little triangle at front of window) Different D/R shifter (changes from shape to the kind of S shape of later years with an actual KNOB on the end) 1987 Different bumpers and grille and side markers, thicker black side moldings. Interior illumination changed from orange to green (so the digidash changed too) new steering wheel, new upolstry pattern, reconfigured dash controls (van control, wipers, headlights.... HVAC buttons) 1988 Steering Wheel changed, wiper nozzels moved, new headliner and so on....

I suggest doing both belts, the cam seals, the front main seal, the oil pump seals (specifically the mickey mouse gasket), and the water pump (or just replace its gaskets.... it depends on how bad it looks) Also while you are there it would be nice to replace that little elbow hose that exits the top of the water pump and connects to a hard line which leads to a heater hose in the firewall. While stuff is off it wouldnt hurt to replace the V belts too and flush the coolant.

True... but they actually changed the sprayers in 88. My 87 has em hidden and the 88 had them on the hood. I am not sure to what vehicles this applies to, but all my GL's and GL-10's have had center consoles and shifter surrounds. Ive seen manual loyales with the shifter coming straight out of the carpet.

Ya, my windshield is pretty bad and they dont care. They make sure there is no loose crap floating around inside the car... floor mats are ok as are trunk monkeys (or wagon monkeys in my case ) just make sure the battery is tied down and you have all 16 lug nuts and if you run the GL... run with us in truck SUV class Oh ya... I am gonna bring some "bogey" stickers too... maybe send afew up north with you Ed for tex to replicate... every race that we domiate the durangos we can earn another durango sticker for the door or fender So far my car should have one as I've only run in truck class once.

Ok afew things: #1 Awesome score #2 Do you want to buy a set of the original equipment white wheel covers?? #3 Personally I would yank the engine to do the clutch just so I could get to all the stubborn hoses on the backside of the engine and in tight spots alot easier... I guess it depends on which hoses you already swapped. then again I dont know crap about transmissions to yanking the engine is my only personal option unless I have a learned individual there. #4 4 wheel burnouts are always fun next to hondas Unfortunately my 87 GL is carbed so it can only break all 4 loose in the rain. #5 Want a bit sportier feel to the shifter? Check my website My short (length) shifter mod Oh and I chopped 2 inches total, not 1.75 like it says on there. -

Does this have anything to do with your "ran to eugene" away message on AIM?? Is John hooking you up with some engine stuff? -
Att'n: Flowmastered--rallyx question
Flowmastered87GL replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Ya its been raining here and there, there is a fair chance it will be raining or at least we could have some showers sunday I assume. I really dont know who to contact regarding 3 drivers, but I dont see why it wouldnt work, you may even get your own personal lane Actually what I think what you would end up doing is swapping drivers one of the times right after you come off the course instead of getting back in line. -

Was that RS a 3 dr rick?? I've only seen Pimp interiors in wagons and sedans. Only in years 85-86 too. -

Flowmastered87GL replied to cricket's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Other than the sun damage to the woodgrain it looks pretty good. I shoulda saved hat 85 EA82 woody I found -
At the front of my air filter on my weber (errr I guess its the back really since I mounted mine backwards to clear the PS pump) There is a little white plastic fitting that installs to receive the PCV hose. I used heater hose and irrigation T fittings to get the lines up to it. I agree with you on the carb studs being too long. I just traded mine out for shorter ones with my college physical plant autoshop

I've seen alot of white EA82 wagons. However based on my stable over the past years: Silver and Red seem the most reoccurring. 1987 GL 4WD Wagon (my car, Silver) 1986 GL 4WD (Auto) Wagon (Got from Jason, Maroon / Red) 1986 GL-10 4WD Turbowagon (Silver) 1987 GL-10 4WD Turbowagon (Tan) 1988 GL 4WD Wagon (Just sold today, Fire engine red) -
Oil Leak Somewhere on EA82T
Flowmastered87GL replied to Bratcrazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmmm let me think... trying to remember what I did and didnt do when I had the intake manifold off the car... I dont remember if I changed the PCV valve, but I did change pretty much everything else in there for sure. I did reuse most of the old PCV hoses because supposibly they have the bends and stuff in them for a reason, its possible the one on the rear finally cracked from the heat of the turbocharger (none were cracked at the time I was tinkering with it, or if they were, they were replaced) I replaced most of the other smaller hoses of course -
Interesting What This Guy Did to His RX
Flowmastered87GL replied to LegacyT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I talked to the guy who owned that car back in the 90's, he wanted with 2500 or 3500 for it when he was finally selling it. He gave me one of the pics to post on my webpage too. See?? -
I believe that the cruise control is vacuum actuated... so maybe the vacuum hose broke or came off??

bedliner in a can
Flowmastered87GL replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ya its in actual rattle cans... just dont use it on a windy day otherwise you will end up with something along the lines of my "pool table" hood on my brat. The texture of the paint made it look all fuzzy like pool table fabric... that and half the paint blew away in the wind -
I have a leather boot on GL and changing it from the rubber did make it move easier, but I wouldn't call it loose. Its by no means sloppy. Now all I can feel is the notches in the tranny with no rubber to dull them out

$20 mail in rebate from Schucks... it was like $84 or more on the shelf.... (79.99 on unmarked sale though) but I asked about a rebate and they said ok and got out the little coupon... they arent blabbing about it though, thats for sure. Had I not asked, they would have gladly let me pay the full price for it. Schucks has such terrbile pricing.... lowest prices my :moon: The one here is only good for one thing... going to autozone, writing down prices then sticking schucks with their guarantee Example 9004 headlight bulbs: Schucks: $10.99 Autozone $6.99 Therefore I told schucks what autozone is charging and got it for like 6.59
