#%$^@&*&* Digital Dash
Flowmastered87GL replied to Dr. RX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my $350 86 that I had you swap the engine on... had the SAME problem... sometimes the gas light would come on AND the trip computer would read 0 miles after a fill up :cornfuzz: Solution... I sold the car and told the guy to trust ONLY the odometer and the analog temp guage -
Since on one said anything... I belive 140's are safe jets to run in a weber... whether or not they are perfect for the car is one thing... but I do know they are safe (you wont blow up the engine or anything)

How 2's for 6-lug drill out for 4-lug!!
Flowmastered87GL replied to Toyofast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am going to re-drill EA81 front disks and EA82T rear disks for my 82 brat very soon.... I am a bit scared though as the rotor bolts on VERY close to where the holes will be drilled.. I am going the 6 lug route... I am running Dodge D50 / Mitsu rims with a toyota/nissan full size spare (whatever 15" rim I find cheap) -

Hmmmm either I suck or the course got faster... I only got a 1:39 on my last (after the audi rolled and they wet down the course again) run. I even had Ed co-driving on the first confusing part and was running some Hakkis Oh well I had fun throwing my alignment further off center -

Toyo... get there early and you can run in open class with me and my 87 GL Riding along will help you to understand the course for later, and you also know when the rear will and will not kick out while cornering... You would probably find yourself wanting new seats after sitting in XT seats too -
%#@ing alternator!
Flowmastered87GL replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ed, my engine is clean... only has like 2 drips on it (from each PCV hose). Its been more or less the cleanest its been since new since WCSS5. I am really thinking the battery idea is on to something... my battery is about 5 years old. -

Flowmastered87GL replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
naaa.... if I had money I may think about it... but I'd rather get a rebuilt XT6 alternator instead... free XT6's alternators for life There were slight signs after salem... I was trying to figure out why the light sources were varying alot... at first I thought it was other cars going over bumps... but it was really my volts shaking around and the lights getting dim and bright.... I am just glad I made it home and didnt run low volts all the way back and drain my battery to nothing. -
Ya... if you can take it on yourself you can get a pair of head gaskets pretty cheap from the dealer. I paid $25 each for them. While in there change cam seals, main seals, timing belts, oil and water pump seats and hoses. If it overheated... also like others said, why? Could be Stuck thermostat, bad radiator, or lack of coolant (maybe other things, but those are the common reasons)

Long right turn = blue smoke??
Flowmastered87GL replied to Toyofast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just replacing the PCV valve itsself may fix it... the kit couldnt hurt though... as long as a genuine subaru PCV valve finds it way in there. -
Ever seen a Brat stuck in the mud? You're about to...
Flowmastered87GL replied to FatBurger's topic in Off Road
If I had me stuck in the THICK goopy mud at WCSS3 I'd post it... anyone got em?? a Blue hatch had to come to my rescue.... the stuff was only deep enough that it touched the floorboards... but with street tires, stock height and little momentum... I was stuck GOOD -
For the second time in a year my alternator has died. Coming home from Andrews place it started to freak out Explanation: It happened on the freeway, the dash idiot lights started kinda glowing and the voltmeter dropped (in 5th gear) I downshifted to 4th and the volts went back up... so I limped it home watching the voltmeter and turning off unnecessary stuff like the radio and heat/vent fan. I had to sit at red lights at 3000 RPM to keep the volts up... if there had been any hondas out they probably woulda thought I was trying to race or something Good news... FREE replacements for life from Autozone It just bothers me that they fail that easy. Then again mine is exposed to extreme use, I bet all the high revving isnt easy one on it I guess I am pimpin in the BRAT tomorrow

Emergency!! My car is over heating!
Flowmastered87GL replied to wighti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh, and dont trust your refill/resovoir bottle TOO much..... on my car it often was full and the system was empty... it depends on pressures and stuff.... I ALWAYS fill the radiator first from the raditor cap, bleed the system (start the car with teh WARM defroster on) then fill the reservoir after. -

Flowmastered87GL replied to wighti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ummmm my estimate is 12.... there are ALOT of hoses there... 2 heater hoses, the one that goes from the thermostat housing to the block (likes the blow), the one tha goes from the heater hose to NEAR the throttle body (likes to blow too), both radiator hoses, and MANY MANY MORE! -

Flowmastered87GL replied to wighti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
what he said... when the car gets hot... it usually doesnt have ccoolant (or needs a radiator or thermostat) my guess is there is bad hose and the coolant has all drained out. Therefore the cap is cool because there is no liquid to heat it up. Replace ALL your coolant hoses. At this point in their life it is best to change em all. I have on EVERY SINGLE one of my EA82's and have not regretted it. They have run so much better since.
