  1. have you compensated for the larger tires? IF you think you are going 26.1 miles on each gallon the bigger tires MAY be carrying you more like 29 miles.
  2. I would say its family safe, during the day its pretty quiet, as long as you camp on the family at night, it wont be crazy. I myself will be camping on the Canadian end
  3. You want a cheap car... the RX may start out cheap... but to keep it running at daily driver levels will cost you $$. If you want inexpensive... get like a 90-94 legacy... reliable and inexpensive. If you want the RX, budget to have to do work on it... alot...
  4. Buy my house!! Ok back to topic.... Portland, OR
  5. On my 87 GL (EA82) I found the 32/36 DFEV worked better for my setup. It let me route the throttle cable easier since it was mirrored. On an EA81 the DGEV worked better. The way in which you install it may vary so be aware of that.
  6. Interesting... wanna see where this ends up On the power note... isnt the SVX like 230 HP and a US WRX like 227?? So a EJ turbo and EG would be similar in power, I would assume the EJ would be lighter...
  7. Hmmm building something even better?? Does the ricewagon finally run?
  8. What makes you think the car has a new engine at 260K, its a subaru (my 88 GL had 222k, my other 88 had 240k I think, my 86 had 235 maybe, and all just had to be resealed, but the longblock was just fine)
  9. funny... when I read the thread title I figured you wanted to make the shift points higher. Thats why I bought a 5 speed... I can shift when I want
  10. I wouldn't take it for free personally. If I had a wrecked parts car (good runnning gear and EVERYTHING electric) then I would move it all over. I have no experience with water damaged legacy stuff, but I would worry about the heater controls going out, the ECU dying, power windows going out, TCU going out (if auto), ,airbags going off for no reason. On something older and simpler like a brat, no big deal, but a legacy is a dime a dozen car, I would just get one thats not such a gamble.
  11. looks like you already found it, but same thing happened to me up in Olympia, had Mark (xsnrg) swap out a new "used" driveshaft from his shop stash in his driveway. Got lucky it started shaking at mile 99 and he lived at mile 101.
  12. Really?? When I sold cars I swear cavaliers had some of the worst seats ever.
  13. Yes zebra stripes. Hell carbon fiber zebra stripes would be sweet too now that Tex has that expensive carbon wrap stuff.
  14. Meh, I'd pay $1500. More if it had an EJ swap
  15. so why did you have to cut the back off / out anyway??
  16. if it had normal doors and a WRX hood scoop, then I'd hit it
  17. Its OEM, not OME I only ran a 180 when my head gaskets were going as a band aid fix. Otherwise get a genine subaru one. Seems to work WAY better.
  18. Thats a good starting point. I had 2 different 88 GL's like that and they were awesome. Almost bought one back... has 319K on it now. Had like 240K or so when I sold it.
  19. if the car has a ton of miles the suspension bushings could be shot too. My old GL front suspension would move front and back when getting on the brakes (I watched les schwab pull it in the shop for tires once and saw a TON of movement) So ya my GL had some wander to it once it got over 275K. Wouldn't even hold an alignment.
  20. Sweet the wife ok'd it Just gotta get work to let me out early so I can stake out a good spot on the canadian end of camp
  21. That hatch looks like fun.. I want to build a 1/10th scale version of that very bumper
