just a note on hours billed. SOME shops bill the same, say 12 hours for a head gasket, whether it takes them 5 hours or 20. You know, stubborn bolt here, socket down the intake there I have found most of the independent shops are pretty fair about either working longer and charging you just what the book says, or if its a super easy fix making it cheaper, or if its some easy fix, free if you are a good customer (not saying you will get a free head gasket swap, but they may replace your plug wires free or something...)

Removing tail lights on wagon

yes there are like 3 or 4 nuts holding them on from the inside of the cargo area, and a ring of that black goo. All I suggest is dont pry too hard when you are taking off the light as you can crack the edge of the lens -
i dont think EA82s with no turbo are TOO bad, yes they throw timing belts and leak oil like crazy but they DO last a long time. EA82 Turbos.... ya money pits

IMO... best solution for the problem. Convert to rear disks You will never regret it! -
I agree, pass on the warranty. The markup is absurd and by buying one you are basically saying I think my car is going to break. If you think your car is going to break you should be buying a better car in my opinion (not saying subarus are bad, its just something fun to say to the salesman) Also remember that if you buy the warranty from the dealer. you are PAYING interest over the life of the car to have it. If you put the money in the bank each month you are EARNING interest. The car is covered fully for the first 3 years so in that time you should be able to save up afew bucks for emergencies. Get a subaru mastercard and save up some subaru bucks too for tune ups or emergency service. One more perspective.... Say you buy a 5 year 60K bumper to bumper warranty. You are REALLY buying a 2 year 24k other than powertrain warranty (basically covering the gap between the end of the factory 3/36 to the powertrains end at 5/60) And often times they try to stick you with a deductable to fix something that may have been only $150 to fix anyway without the warranty. With a $100 deductable.... ya that $2000 up front was NOT worth it!

Gen 3 "Short shifter"
Flowmastered87GL replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes as far as i know all manual subaru vehicles use the same 12mm 1.25 pitch. I know for sure that EJ's do and gen 3's do. and I had a gen 3 shifter on a gen 2 so they should match too. Cant speak for gen 1 or older stuff like 360's though. -
Got a new computer, while digging through my old computer I found pictures of the setup I had in my GL. This shifter was not a REAL short shifter. The rod for the knob was shortened, but it still moved the stock number of degrees. It still felt a lot better though. I used a forester leather knob and wheelskins universal shifter boot. Side by side of old and new How much I cut off. I later took another inch off it. Retap the linkage with a 12mm 1.25 pitch die. Good luck finding one though Feel free to ask any questions. I did this conversion years ago and the car has been in Subaru heaven for some years, but it still lives on in pieces There should be a thread shortly in off topic regarding the beer caps

Since you got it free last year you should pay double this year (kidding) -
For an alternate exhaust idea... I ran 2.0 pipes to a cat, 2.25 to a flowmaster muffler and 2.5" out from there. Using more or less the stock routing but the mid pipe was a bit straighter. Gained some top end, but lost bottom end. Car sounded good though.
