i bought a wrecked wagon.......
Flowmastered87GL replied to monstaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For once its true.... that'll buff out Diggin the 3 different kinds of wheels -
Tried to start it today.... replaced the 3 little relays in the hood fuse box and the black fusible link and soldered the ignition plug back together. Tried to crank, but wouldnt start.... HOPEFULLY because the jumper box needs to be charged more.... or replaced I was able to get the power locks to work, the parking brake light came on and another red light came on, but NO CEL.... ever.... Any other fuses I should take a look at or is it likely just burned out? (or removed?) I will try to start it again after the box charges all day. EDIT.... with a freshly charged jumper box it started right up.... the idle moves a bit between 700 and 1000 but once I get the guage cluster bulbs fixed maybe I can find a CEL code or something...

PRICE GOUGING MO-FO's
Flowmastered87GL replied to cobcob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess it depends on your parts guy.... I always seem to get the list price. Though I often am wearing a West Coast Subaru show t-shirt when I go in and know EXACTLY what I need.... so I gues they figure they cant sucker me into paying retail -

Slip some mirrors under it on the ground to show off the pretty belly -
Grrrr the board ate thread number 1. Anyway I got me a new toy today... 91 legacy L, 240K for $300. No rust and pretty decent shape. the clutch is kind of messed up and it was broken into but it hopefully will be an easy fix. Note that its shiny! My questions: #1 Since its FWD should I drop the tranny to do the clutch or raise the engine? I have 2 floor jacks and an engine hoist, but no tranny jack and no high car lift. #2 (fixed the wiring, the car starts) #3 (fixed the broken bolt.... just left it there and installed 2 additional long metal screws) #4 The trunk leaks... is there a common cause? dirt under the weatherstripping??? can I just pull it, clean it and put it back down with RTV under it? It was just mentioned to me today that the taillights can leak too. #5 (Found the tilt wheel) #6 (new 5/4) With a jumper box connected.... the auto seatbelts didnt move They are locked in the back and driving position fortunately. Is there a common cause? Or should I just say screw it and convert it to manual belts? (I believe Edrach did it) #7 I dont have a check engine light.... at all... and only 1 bulb in the guage cluster works (I got it started today and drove it up and down the driveway if you cant tell) How hard is it to yank the cluster?? I have yanked the HVAC controls, but never the cluster. Any special trick to it or just start pulling screws til it pops out? More to come likely.... watch for a WTB thread... will need lots of tan interior bits to the lower dash / steering column

Who knew Edrach was so young!!

My Coupes Journey!! Is Over..He is in CT!!
Flowmastered87GL replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Actually if he is solo he can work a 14 hour day, 11 of which can be spent driving. The rest can be spent admiring the Subaru Or loading / unloading other lesser vehicles from the truck at waypoints. After the workday a 10 hour break must be taken. -
IF its not too far.... consider a AAA membership.... its like $80 per year I think. Just dont use the tow too soon after getting it.... like wait a week or 2 or more maybe (if you have time for that) Plus you have it later if you break down or get locked out or something. Use more than 4 tows a year and they threaten to charge you more though

Dual Belt Pulleys??
Flowmastered87GL replied to cobcob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it should be.... generally the second is a backup to keep you moving. Some models it follows the exact same path, others it skips an accessory or 2. -
New Member in PDX
Flowmastered87GL replied to 76subi wagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Welcome I am in PDX as well, though I dont have any classics anymore For the above referenced engines, look down at the engine block while standing in front of the car. There should be a little square stamped into the engine with EA71 EA63 or something inside the square. EA71 is a 1.6 liter a 63 is a 1.4 I hear there is a good yard out in Forest Grove or Carlton or something... but I havnt found it yet -
When the seats are in the up (you can sit in them) position (at least on GL's) there is something similar to a door latch mechanism. Pull up on the pin and it releases the jaw that grab around a metal loop. When the seat is folded down (and the seat bottom folded up and forward) the little plastic loops on the top of the seat SHOULD sit on pins on the backs of the seat bottom hinges. If you have the seats all the way back there will be some resistance to get the seat up and down from this position as the seat cushion has to compress a bit to allow the plastic ring on the seatback to come free of the pins. There is no latch though in the down (big flat open back) position. Hope that helps? :-\

Not old generation but hey why not.. 2005 Baja Sport Afew paint chips on hood Left rear tire leaking air (looking at tomorrow) Rear 12V outlet not working (will be looked at under warranty) Left tailight (in tailgate, not the signal/brake light one) burned out Spring clips for hooks on bed extender broke last winter (work like a caribeaner) Either the roof rack or body cladding holds water when it rains alot :-\ -

What exactly is a brake "backing plate" ?
Flowmastered87GL replied to Greenley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pretty much what it sounds like. A thin stamped sheet metal plate thats installed before the brake rotor is that basically helps protect the back from water dirt, rocks, grease and stuff. Yes they can trap rocks, but I think I only caught one once in over 100K and I drove on alot of gravel roads. PB blaster and a good breaker bar are your friend in getting these off as they may have never been removed in the life of the car.
