I run Nokian Hakkipellita tires. I forget if I have the 10's or the 1's... one is slightly better than the other but they both are great!

Hmmm did afew rough caluations at the gas station today... 5.2 or so gallons... around 35 miles.. (larger tires on the car, so I probably drove 40-something miles really. But thats 6.7 MPG x the multiplier for the tires... Now.... why do I think its so low? I spilled ALOT of gas changing the fuel filter and the vapor separator, AND the carb was just rebuilt. Also the fuel line that goes in the top of the separator is leaking a bit... just afew drips here and there, but it adds up. Gonna change it monday. I'm hoping for at LEAST 15 MPG before tire multiplier. Hopefully I dont spill too much when I change that fuel line so as to keep the calculations as accurate as possible. What is everyone else getting with webered EA81's with big tires? (engine is tuned up and carb was rebuilt so I think my leakage is the only problem here... the car runs great)

gen 1 subaru brat question
Flowmastered87GL replied to 81BRAT's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes. Method #1 Take off your hubs, take them and a 6 lug wheel to a machine shop and tell em to make it work (they drill 4 new holes and you end up with 6 lug hubs) Or be careful and measure ALOT and do it yourself. Make sure to get everything straight. A drill press would help. Method #2 Pop 2 studs out of a spare hub. Bolt that brake onto a 6 lug wheel. Drill through 2 of the holes in the hub down through teh wheel... presto a 4 lug wheel! (Thats what I have on my 82 brat) -
Lower engine = lower center of gravity anyway

Fixed the RX finally!!!
Flowmastered87GL replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you got a WHOLE legacy... could you grab the Vin off it and everything and make your RX a legacy with an RX body??? Ok I'm getting kinda creative... but you never know. -

Why do people hate Loyales?
Flowmastered87GL replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Read my signature... i've had EA82's from 1986 to 1992. I think my favorites were 1988's as they had EFI, but still had options. My 92 Loyale ran good usually, but was slow because it had a 3AT. Had junky door pulls on the front doors, didnt have a footrest (I installed one though) and didnt have maplights (I was too lazy to install those though) Seats felt cheaper than GL seats in the Loyale.... of course GL-10 seats, or XT seats are preferred by me though. got great MPG though (in the loyale) -
New addition to the subie family

So... since you aren't in a nice new car does that make you a slacker? He he, just kidding, looks like a nice RS... looks good next to the RX. -
Is there a welder in the house?

I'd do it for free (or beer), but I am all the way up in Portland + I am pretty busy with work -
Rear bumper.. what are my options?
Flowmastered87GL replied to PeterD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try a Mudrat or Allied Armament bumper. Both should be sturdy enough. -
High RPMs at freeway speeds, is this norm?
Flowmastered87GL replied to 211's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmmmm well here is an idea for you... on your shifter you have PRND2L if I recall correctly. The next time you stop on an onramp (if its metered or something)... Try putting the shifter in 2 to start. Accelerate til you hit 4000 RPM... if you hit 4000 RPM at 60, then your tranny is not using 3rd gear. If you can only hit 40 or so, then pop it up into D and it should shift... if it does, then all is well, its just geared for a national speed limit of 55 at the time of production. Remember when alot of cars had 55 in orange when the rest of the speedo was white? -
Water Pump in an 86 GL
Flowmastered87GL replied to SyntheticBlinkerFluid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One more thing... there is a long and a short type pump. One has studs and one has holes for bolts. I THINK the studs are on the ones with factory AC and the ones with holes for receiving bolts are for those with no AC or dealer (outboard) AC. -
Ok here is the deal. I need some parts moved around. I have a rear bumper going north that "Suberdave" wants (I need someone in the Seattle area to haul it north for me where Dave could pick it up. If dave doesnt throw you afew bucks for helping then I will). I also have a cooling fan that needs to be picked up at the rallycross by "cmiller". (I may be able to have him drop by my work to pick it up if necessary) The most important thing right now is... is someone willing to stow away an Ea82 rear bumper on the trip home to Washington? (and hold onto it for afew days til it can be picked up) Oh... I forgot the most important part... I work from 10AM to 8 PM Sunday, so I really dont have time to take the parts to PIR myself and missing work could cost me alot between spiffs and commissions. Not worth it for a $20 bumper. So who in Portland Oregon is willing to hold onto some parts for me AND is gonna be at the rallycross Sunday? Thanks for any help

push button 4wd vs D/R 4wd
Flowmastered87GL replied to kel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Read my signature... The 86 GL, 87 GL and the 2 88's were 5 speed dual range... awesome tranny. The 2 GL-10's and the 92 and another 86 were push button 4WD... worked, but it was hard to tell when exactly it kicked in. Once it was in though it worked great. Both brats are dual range... nice to have once you add a lift kit... nothing beats the CLUNK of manually shifting the tranny too... better than clicking a little button hoping that something happens. (Our Kia Sorentos at work have a dial... sometimes it takes like 5 seconds to kick in) -

The bumper from rallitek.com comes from Mudrat79 a member on here. The baja that they mounted the tube bumper on has slightly larger tires than stock, so maybe that would be a route you would want to go with yours? Same suspension, just a bit more ground clearance (and a bit miscalibrated speedo) from the larger tires. You would have to ask Sean or one of their techs what size tires they are running... I'm too lazy to drive the 37 blocks down to look for myself (yes rallitek is only 37 blocks from my house) I have a full blue baja too... I just need to get a current pic on my avatar. -
I would recommend a set of GL-10 seats (preferibly in a matching interior color) You can get a matching set of velour seats (With rear headrests if you have a wagon) in alot of colors (blue, brown, grey, red, maybe black?) Prices vary from $0 to who knows what for a rare red set. I think the going rate at a junkyard would be around $50 or so... on here its about half that. By the way I have a blue set for sale in Oregon for a wagon
