  1. I agree with craig, looks like an early gen 2 round headlight grille... like from a 1981 wagon or something.
  2. new gens I think are capped at around 124 or so for imprezas (non WRX) I know I had my mom's 96 OBS up to 115 or so once I think I'd be scared to take my lifted brat over 85 or so (actual speed not indicated speed)
  3. Hmmmm I recall it as follows: In either 94 or 95, the 2.2 was only available on the Impreza LX with an AT. then when the OBS came out in 95 it also had a 2.2 I belive in 1996 the Brighton had a 1.8 and all the rest had a 2.2. So... my answer is ~95 or so to 2001 (but not the 2.5RS of course!)
  4. Hey not much worse than my car, I get 20-30 in the GL. I personally dont care for them, but I still want to try to sell em (I am applying to sell Subarus in Oregon city Oregon) I think the saabaru 9-7 looks better honestly. I still need to see one in person, will do that Tuesday when I meet the recruiter at Lithia
  5. In my case, I just had to scrap the CV AND trailing arm. Richie and I tried air hammering it out and it didnt move a millimeter! Since Brad hooked me up with a whole rear suspension setup AND a CV for a good price I just used all that. So in my case it just wasnt worth salvaging.
  6. Not very original but Threebaru? Treebaru? (meaning three, but kind of the way a kid might say it) Ok so I'm not very original, I have a finance degree not marketing
  7. Hey mods I cant edit the topic on this thread anymore, can you please change the topic of this thread to read the date 5/28 instead of the old 4/7? Thanks Now on to the post! Thanks to the collective thinking and tinkering and parts stash of myself, Richierich and his dad my 82 Brat is now functional again. This is what it took to make it work. - Remove tranny - Establish old setup not working right somehow even though it LOOKS good. (appeared to be a non true flywheel probably) - Install good used KNOWN BRAT 83+ flywheel - Install new disk and pressure plate. - Install 83+ (large) TO bearing and carrier So I now have the large beefy clutch and the good gears of the 82 tranny And it backed out of the garage under its own power... something it hasnt done in well.... 9 months? I think this just goes to show that when no one else can figure it out, take it to Richie and it will come back working
  8. All it needs is a water pump NOW... but how long was it driven with a bad water pump. I saw this car, yes its a good deal BUT, if other damage has been done it may need head gaskets as well. Being an 86 I THINK it has gen 1 heads, so the heads may be cracked too! So an $250 car may end up costing $1000 after you buy the car, gaskets and 2 "new" (good used) heads. But hey maybe you will get lucky and they were smart enough to stop driving it before they did any damage.
  9. Ya, you either gotta redrill the hubs to fit the rims, the rims to fit the hubs, or get aftermarket rims like pugs or the ones from shadyirishmen
  10. My guess is you have an "EA81" Its a pushrod 1.8 liter engine with like 76 HP or so. It should be stamped on the front, top of the block up near the distributor.
  11. Is the back door open on the garage or did you put a BIG door on the back too? (drive through garage) Looking good, I'd offer to help but the commute would be killer
  12. Everyone has their own way, no right or wrong way. How I did mine: I cut straight down and then across the bed as far back as I could, but still retain the lights and the area where the tailgate bolts to. Then with the naked rear of the brat I cut like 7-9 inches out. I forget how much out. Basically right up to where there is some stupid plastic thing in the passenger rear fender. I just missed it. Didnt want to relocate it or mess with it, so I just cut right behind it. Then I matched the 2 parts back together and started welding from the top. The body lines do NOT match up. Some filler and banging is necessary to make it look right. Option B. Screw the tailgate and cut off the taillight assembly, cut over a foot off the car and then weld the light assy back on. I bobbed 7-9 inches (I forget which), Zapar bobbed 12 inches (no gate). AdamNDJ bobbed like 15 I think (and retained his tailgate) So there are tons of ways to do it.
  13. Keep the Impreza. You can rent a small u-haul trailer to move across the country if you need to. You could buy a small trailer with the $$ generated by the brats sale. Salt is nasty stuff, my brat is proof of that. I would feel better personally letting the salt beat at a $3000 impreza which is a dime a dozen versus a beautiful $4000 + brat which is super rare. In general the Impreza should also be more reliable than the Brat. I took my 98 Impreza to reno and back with only 1 day of testing on it after getting it back from the shop which it had been housed at for like a year! Still did better on the trip than any of my EA series cars would have. Way better gas mileage too. By all means, keep the impreza. You can buy another brat later once you move to a place that doesnt use salt, or get a beater brat there once you are there for like $500 just to play around in.
  14. Knowing them though... I bet if you go in there trying to order a blue EA82 dash cover they will say they are out production or something They looked at me really funny when I asked them about new rear hatch struts for the 87 GL.
  15. I'll let brad confirm this but I belive it was the blue "RX XT" that was on there (craigslist). Funny because its actually neither of them. Its just a turbo GL with a ton of options.
  16. So, at this point are you gonna... Lift the red SPFI, lower and speed up the "RX", and keep the wagon all fancy and pretty and stuff?
  17. Uhhh I think my 0-60 time is like 9-10 seconds or something. Not great, but hey the car has 84 HP stock, plus nice exhaust and weber, but minus that the plugs need to be changed, the driver weights 250 lbs and the weber hasnt really been tuned (all factory settings) My 82 brat (now lifted and webered) used to get like times in the 15-18 second range Ya the carter weber is a dog on some cars... my street brat probably is around a 10-12 second 0-60 though.
  18. Whats wrong with the "Rally wheels"? They are better than rusty wagon wheels
  19. Hmmm a blue XT turbo? The one off craigslist?? This is all guessing at this point.
  20. I particularly like the posted invoice prices on all models. Gives me a target to shoot (below ) when I buy my Baja
  21. I would recommend doing what I had to do on my 87 GL. Yank the engine: Replace: Head gaskets, cam tower o-rings, valve cover gaskets (and washer gromit things) cam seals, front and rear main seals, oil pan gasket (if it takes you 1 minute to change it good, you got to it at a good time, if it takes 30 minutes or more, you let it get too old and crusty), water pump (just replace it, its cheap), oil pump gasket (mickey mouse gasket), timing belts, (maybe replace the timing belt pullies if they dont spin really nice and free), intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets. This would probably be a good time to replace the major cooling lines too (the elbow hose from the water pump) and both radiator hoses, and both heater hoses. This will make the car practically like a new car and put you back on a normal 30 / 60K service interval. Make sure to liberally soak each hydraulic lifter when you put them in. Squirt oil in the hole, stick the lifter in and cover it some more... helps to keep em from ticking.
  22. Ok now ive seen the red wagon smoke... so what happened with your tranny jason? Go from 2nd to 1st too quick and blow it up?
  23. I think you all should listen to Noah... he works with seat belts for a living in Detroit
  24. Gonna run the special rally tires (read home modified) on the wagon again?
