  1. Yep I almost live right behind thrifty auto. (woo hoo I can walk to get suby parts!) I have abosolutely NO idea where the flywheel came from... supposibly it came of an EA81 that general disorder had, I didnt ask, I just asked him for a bigger flywheel. My fault I guess for not finding out what it came from.
  2. I am in the process of moving, I am located at 48th and SE Haig st (or will be come the 15th) I replaced the rear main seal, so I suppose I coulda messed it up, but I put it in straight and I dont have any leaks that I can tell. Proabably gonna have to yank the engine again and break out some calipers to see if the flywheel is in tolerance. Any help can be compensated with pizza/beer
  3. Dunno if it helps, but the EA82 wagon wheels I have my rally tires on scraped on the rear of Jason's 76 4WD wagon I belive they didnt have enough offset and the rear of the rim scraped on the trailing arm. So you need rims with enough offset like calmasters or some older rims I think. Not sure if EA81 ones fit or not...
  4. Hmmm 93 Impreza 1.8 L??? For those that know I know Richie, I dont know yet, hopefully I will tomorrow, but I'm not telling
  5. The flywheel came used out of GD's parts cars. I traded some beer for it (which I still have and need to give him) So I am not sure what the tolerances are on it. I yanked the clutch cable and cranked it in reverse... it barely moved. So it looks like we are getting a tow dolly for the u-haul
  6. I know its been done before, I am just trying to find out what went wrong in mine (see the brat wont move thread) For example GD used to have a 2WD clutch in his lifted wagon. Which SHOULD be the same setup that formerly used to be in my 82 Brat right?? (the small clutch) Well I know over at Ken's house they installed a new one after the old one went up in smoke. I am trying to see what all it took. Anyone that has done a conversion please input. 83+ 4WD flywheel 83+ 4WD clutch disc 83+ 4WD pressure plate And which throw out bearing and carrier??
  7. Craig looked at it... he feels the clutch is just slipping somehow. Either I got the wrong pressure plate (rather unlikely) or the used flywheel I got is really worn down. I wish there was some way to TELL though. We got slack in the throw out arm now so I assume that means the throw out bearing isnt dragging.
  8. Pretty sure the axles are good as it does the same thing in 4WD and even 4WD lo. Its possible we messed up the cable, though jacking UP the tranny would take load OFF the cable it seems. My worst fear here is that the 82 carrier isnt working well with the newer clutch and I am gonna have to yank the whole unit... I really really hope not.
  9. Ok I got the brat running this morning... wouldnt start, Craig tightened the battery terminals, fired up. Need to hook up the choke though. Anyway its experiencing either 1 of 2 problems #1 Clutch pedal freeplay feels about right with cable tightened all the way down (hill holder removed for this) Then tried it.. goes into gear but really doesnt move much... moves like .05 MPH Moves in forward and reverse 4WD and FWD, just REALLY slow like its slipping. IT probably is in fact. #2 IF I mess with the clutch cable I can get it to where it grinds every gear. So I assume the clutch setup (which is new) is good. I cant really seem to get it at a happy medium. Details: 1982 BRAT, 4 speed DR (also an 82) 83-84 clutch disk, pressure plate and flywheel (all new perault parts) and a new genuine subaru 1982 throw out bearing. Clutch cable IS old... though since I can get it to go into gear I figure its not stretched too much. My guesses are I just havn't quite found the sweet spot, OR the 1982 carrier and throw out bearing dont get along well with the 83 and up 4WD clutch setup. Mick I though you had done this on your brat??
  10. Y'all can feel free to meet if you want, but I feel if others may need to change schedules that maybe it would be best to meet after the holidays are done??
  11. Good news: Stark street pizza has a huge area. (its like 9600 block of Stark by I-205) Bad news: MY CV's were giving me MAJOR issues on my scouting mission so ALL my efforts are either directed to 3 areas: Taking an evening to fix the CV's OR Getting the brat drivable so I can wait to fix the wagon AND packing up. We start moving in 12 hours Which is nice... but I have barely STARTED to pack and have unfairly left Shannon to do all the work. I need to pull my load. I can afford to come out here. Shannon is sacrificing a christmas party to pack/move. So I therefore feel best sacricifcing the meet I really wish I could be there, but 45 minutes or so driving each way, maybe 2 hours there... thats ALOT of time I could be using to pack up. We need to be out of here in a week and other than the computer being moved to the dining room table I havn't done anything. So I gotta miss this one until all the craziness in my life is straight. (and no Shannon is not MAKING me skip this, she explained she is giving up her party and quite frankly it would be selfish for me not to do the same)
  12. Hmmm the libero... sweet a Suby toaster van. I'd pimp one of those around
  13. I am gonna try to scout out locations tomorrow, but no promises as I need to get the brat running! Who knows, if I get lucky I may make an appearance in it. (rather than the GL) Edit: Checking out Kustom Pizza, BJ's (on Weidler), Flying Pie, and Stark St. Pizza. Will report back with parking lot sizes.
  14. Sweet, my mom has a 96 also (though with a 4EAT ) But it only has like 50K on it  I personally like 96's the best. They were one of the few years with 4 wheel disk brakes and the black strips on the bumper really help to reduce the amount of scrapes in the paint.
  15. One of yours, the hitachi in my box doesn't appear to have the fitting (I looked for it and couldnt find it)
  16. ok so I guess I'll leave em open. I'll run the little line next to the carb as a return and the big one as supply off the hitachi T fitting.
  17. I will try the Jason method first The sooner I get this up and running and over to the new house the sooner I can let you borrow the welder for a day or 2. THe carter weber has a pretty much integral fuel line Y fitting, it has the same fitting type as the front brake lines (called a banjo fitting maybe??) anyway it wouldnt work on my weber so old hitachi's are gonna be my first way to try it. Ken, I assume the vent like is the one line that comes from the fuel filter/separatior or whatever it is... area (where you have the arrow) and goes to the vapor canistor?? I was considering ditching the canistor, but I dont really need the space for anything at this time so its just sitting there with the vent line and nothing else hooked up for now. Maybe I'll stick vac plugs on the little metal lines coming off it just to make things neater. I could remove em, but I feel a little better leaving it there so things look a little more "legal"
  18. I am in the final legs of hooking up all the hoses and wires in the brat before we can fire it up. The ONE thing holding me up is the fuel line. The brat has a supply and return. The weber has a supply and thats it. I can extend the lines to reach the weber no problem... but... As I did on my 87 GL I wish to do on this car: What I did: Run the large fuel supply line to a METAL T-fitting with a large output TO the weber and a small branch off to the return line. THat way whatever doesnt fit into the large line(and the carb) is forced back into the return line. Works very well on my GL. I got my last one from the parts bin at my university autoshop. I no longer work there so I dont have that luxury. Mine came off a little daihatsu truck... well now where can I find a T fitting?? (preferibly with one side of the Y being smaller) I was thinking maybe a hydraulic supply place? All the stuff at the auto parts store is plastic and made for PCV of vac lines. Maybe a brass fitting or something from home depot?? (I've never seen any with 2 large and 1 small fitting though) Can I ditch the return line??? (its on an EA81 gen 2 brat)
  19. Woo hoo!... I'll try to grab it after school tomorrow. I will come by probably Tuesday (before work) to give you your money. Zap, I am moving to SE Portland because my commute is killing me 15 miles a day each way gets expensive when you get 20-25 MPG. Shannon would then be able to walk to work rather than take mass transit or bum a ride (I til I teach her to drive a scooby)
  20. I believe if you jack up the car to take all the weight off the tire, the CV will come out after removing the pins. If it hasnt been removed in a while it may take some effort to break it loose from the rust and grime around it.
  21. The axle is now in the capable hands of Richie's shop so this weekend it looks like its back to sheet metal and maybe exhaust work. When I get the CV back we are gonna try to fire this bad boy up!
  22. Ok someone wants a time, I agree with Richie's suggestion December 12 (Sunday) at 3PM at some (probably) pizza place in SE or NE Portland. That way its kinda central between Gresham and Beaverton as well as Longview / Salem. Though I have a feeling its gonna be mostly locals.
  23. Dont let Shannon read this (as I dont know the exact time).... but I believe we will be doing stuff from 6:30-9:30 at the longest... its not a religous service, its civil. www.oldchurch.org I belive is the website for the "church" Its a historic building that USED to be a church for those church-phobes As for people crashing at my house, SOME can, though some members from many MANY states away already have dibs on the guest room And my groomsman from CA has a couch. We will be in a hotel that night, I would have to ask Shannon how she felt letting people have run over our room that night.
  24. I figured this would be easier than PMing everyone, leaves for an open invite too. What: My wedding Where: The Old Church in Downtown Portland When: March 5 2005 in the evening. We should have a champagne toast, but sorry no open bar. We are paying for the wedding out of our pockets for the most part and that was just too expensive. Not to mention its a historic building and some things cant be served there (no kegs, no red wine as examples) Example list of people I want to PM me your address: Edrach, BajaVWSoobnut (ok I could call you but I'm lazy), Richierich, Hondasucks, maybe others... I wish we could invite the whole board but those who have met me afew times take priority. Fortunately I am NOT too lazy to walk next door and get Craigs address Other names that come to mind... Corky, Zap, Ken, Mark... I'm sure I missed some people, dont be offended please. And please dont assume I know your whole name or how to spell it
