  1. Well the long one had been rusted to the manifold, drilling it out fixed it... this short one on the drivers side... rusted at the threads, craig drilled it out with a reverse bit, no luck... 1 easy out, no luck... maybe more luck tomorrow, we shot it with MORE PB blaster... oh... and we even tried welding a nut on top... the nut broke off...
  2. Its scenic to everyone but the locals. I grew up in the Gorge so I've seen it for like the first 21 years of my life Yes its nice.. but living there when you are young... boring! Lots of fun roads to rally around on though
  3. Its probably an 85 XT that was made in December of 1984 Kinda like the 89 Legacy... its a 90 MY, but made early.
  4. Well I managed to get the EGR off i one piece... had to yank it from the intake side first, then get over it with the closed end of the wrench to get the block side off. I got the broken long bolt out by drilling it (the one with the broken off head) The intake is now off and on the floor... anyone want a carter weber really really cheap?? Now I just have the short bolt on the drivers side to deal with... its only like 1/4" above the head IF that... We are going to try to drill it out hopefully with reverse rotation drill bits. Hopefully that will do the trick.
  5. Rust and 2WD?? Probably $500 US (well to me anyway) Were it rust free and 4WD... 1200-$1500 US
  6. You'd have to be there... it was Yawns... You will have to ask her (Its not profane or rude or anything like that, just for her privacy I dont wanna go blabbing)
  7. Ok I'll try that, but the EGR needs to come off first Its been soaking for near 2 days, so hopefully its loose now.
  8. I kinda had a sucky day yesterday too... my alternator crapped out AGAIN!! It seems to be a yearly occurrence for me... it was doing the typical idiot lights coming on at low RPM thing... but this time the tach was bouncy... never seen that before... Went to the Aloha store, they had an alternator, but when they put my pully on (dual pully) they discovered the shaft was bad.. oh well the bad one goes back in and I get to work 40 minutes late! Today, I went to the Hillsboro store that the Aloha store told me to try yesterday, they were now sold out! Great... now off to Forest Grove or North Portland? Well since I have class in an hour I went to No Po (after class of course) Well I finally got lucky, the alt came straight out of the box with a dual pully (a MATCHING black one this time too instead of the ugly gold one) So.. the car runs good for now... Just the alt hunt wouldnt have been so bad if I hadn't broken 2 bolts on my brats intake manifold right before getting in the car and learning the alt was toast! Sometimes things just dont go right!
  9. WE are all cheapskates here So on the board, ya I agree with the 1500 tops deal.... on e-bay... a cherry one like Jerrys old one... 4-5000 if its truly perfect!
  10. Well I know it happens, I've heard how to get the ones that break off 1/4 inch or so from the head out.. now... the ones that you shear the (Bolt)HEAD off of... how do you get the intake up and off of them? I still have to disconnect the EGR (being REALLY stubborn) and thats why it wasnt moving before... but I am told its a pain to take off. I think once I get the intake off a punch and some PB blaster and vise grips hopefully will fix the rest of it. But how do I get the intake up over the long bolt on the front passenger side? Just keep prying and lubing with spray? Cut/grind away the intake? (I dont need it, its a carter weber) Who else has sheared one off at the bolt head before?? Strange how it works... one long bolt came out clean as it were like 1 year old... others were crusty like they are 21 years old.. oh, they ARE!
  11. If I remember it right, we were chatting for a while in the beer garden around 3-5ish. And giving Amanda crap for that "thing" she did when she yawns
  12. On all my EA82's I've just used a $6 gasket puller I got from Knechts auto parts, most chains should have em. Hook one end in the little holes in the seal, then rock it out gently. Sometimes it popps out quick, some other times I have to go at it from afew sides. This applies to the front and rear. The tool is WAY better than a screwdriver. Trust me I have used both.
  13. Another bonus of PK lifts... I met him at WCSS6 and got a shirt from him free because I purchased a lift kit a year ago (for my 82 BRAT)
  14. I thought I heard a snap when your bumper got hung up on the dirt and the wheels were spinning. Glad you made it back. My car fared well other than afew new rocker panel dents
  15. I'd be up for one if you have pics of my wagon on there... preferibly playing off road
  16. Thanks guys, it turned out awesome, the off road course was perfect.... my time out there has been immortalized on my drivers side rocker panel He he 1 more beauty mark on the GL!
  17. I think its a good idea to make the marketplace invisible... keeps spam outta here more than if the marketplace was visible to everyone.
  18. just a thought... is the throttle cable arranged ina way that its like trying to yank the carb off when you floor it?? Just a thought, not really sure what else to suggest.
  19. Ok I'll try to pick up some of the 10% stuff... it WAS a limited run, I hope they still have some left there. If not I'll probably be able to find something similar. Like 9.9
  20. I can almost promise they will total it also. A lady turned in front of my newer 87 GL and I couldnt stop and hit her at like 10 MPH or so... all I had to do to fix it was kick the fender and replace the bumper, cost me $30 or so to fix, but the insurance estimated the damage at 12-1500 and totaled the car out. I bought it back for $50 or so So I got a salvage title, and a profit of like $700. Sure the title is branded, but I plan to run the car up to around 400K at which point it will be worthless regardless of title.
  21. IF you are worried about traffic, consider this... From highway 30 southbound take the St. Johns bridge. Get on Lombard and follow it for a while... used to get me outta town quickly when I lived in No Po cause the bypass takes you out pretty far... like 181st or something..
  22. I want to use new parts (other than the flywheel from Rick) Besides I'm bidding on a 225mm pressure plate and clutch disk on e-bay... ends during the subaru show so I'm gonna have to drive to The Dalles to my parents house to pay the people (if I win) No one outbid me please, my brat REALLY needs a clutch! (My e-bay name is the same as my logon on here)
  23. Low carb microbrew.. Well, no, but I know some stuff with like 10% alcohol that will knock your socks off
  24. My car would hate that... my carb is tuned for optimum performance at like 65-75 degrees (its stock settings, figured that out just by driving in different temps). It loves cloudy overcast portland days
